84: Chapter 84 The Mark of the Contract
As Vice Dean Conrad spoke those words, the scene fell into instant silence. Not to mention the others, even Mentor Isolde became silent, losing the aggressive posture she had held before.
Seeing this, Vice Dean Conrad finally breathed a sigh of relief. It was truly too difficult.
"Alright, there is no need to gather here anymore. Mentor Isolde, could you please stay behind?"
Vice Dean Conrad swept his gaze around, waved his arm at the crowd, and then smiled at Mentor Isolde.
The other wizards were tactful; upon hearing Vice Dean Conrad's words, they understood that he still had matters to discuss with Mentor Isolde and did not want them to disturb him.
As the crowd dispersed, Vice Dean Conrad walked quickly toward Mentor Isolde with a bitter expression on his face.
Before Vice Dean Conrad could speak, Mentor Isolde spoke first: "Vice Dean Conrad, just say what you need to say. I still have many things in the Laboratory waiting for me to handle."
Vice Dean Conrad naturally heard the dissatisfaction in Mentor Isolde's words.
But there was no other way; that was an order issued by the Dean. How could he dare to say no? And he certainly didn't want to offend Mentor Isolde.
Thus, being caught in the middle and stuck in a dilemma was the only option he had.
Hearing this, Vice Dean Conrad understood that Mentor Isolde did not want to waste time on pleasantries, so he got straight to the point.
"Mentor Isolde, this order was issued by the Dean. I cannot disobey it, so please forgive me."
After saying this, without waiting for Mentor Isolde to respond, Vice Dean Conrad spoke quickly again and pulled four Contract Marks from his sleeve.
"These are the Contract Marks of the four students you accepted. You can communicate with the Contract Marks in their Mental Sea through these."
As he spoke, Vice Dean Conrad waved his hand, and the four Contract Marks floated toward Mentor Isolde.
"Mentor Isolde, this is all I can do. Please don't make things difficult for me."
Seeing this, the coldness on Mentor Isolde's face eased slightly. After giving Vice Dean Conrad a deep look, she turned and left.
Watching Mentor Isolde's departing figure, the tense expression on Vice Dean Conrad's face relaxed slightly, and he breathed a sigh of relief.
But the next moment, his expression turned fierce, and he gritted his teeth and said:
"Don't let me find out who is behind this, or you will suffer greatly!"
...
The time returns to when Byron first arrived.
Just as Byron was pondering what exactly was going on, the villagers who had been staring at him finally reacted.
In an instant, piercing screams tore through the sky, pulling Byron out of his thoughts.
Watching the villagers scattering and fleeing, Byron shook his head with a helpless bitter smile.
Although he didn't know what was going on, the most important thing right now was to figure out where he was so he wouldn't accidentally teleport to the ends of the earth.
He hadn't freeloaded enough at the academy yet, and he didn't want to go out and venture into the world this early.
Moreover, in the academy, he didn't have to worry about other messy things; he could just focus on improving himself.
If he went outside, who knows what troublesome things he might encounter.
Thinking of this, Byron did not hesitate and immediately walked forward along the muddy road.
There were no high hills or tall trees nearby, and he hadn't learned any flight-related witchcraft.
Therefore, to find out his current situation, he could only take the most primitive approach: find someone to ask.
Although this method looked a bit crude, it was the most efficient one.
Thinking this in his heart, Byron continued walking forward along the muddy road.
Now he only hoped that the group of fleeing villagers wouldn't spread the news too quickly, otherwise it would be difficult to handle later.
But the next moment, a strange expression appeared on Byron's face; he really didn't know if it was lucky or unfortunate.
At this moment, right in front of Byron, a large group of villagers, men and women, young and old, holding various farming tools, were surrounding an elderly man with white hair and beard, marching aggressively toward Byron.
Regardless, the people hadn't completely run away, and he had found them.
It was just that a few too many people had come.
Seeing this, Byron's expression remained normal. Just as he was about to speak, he saw the elderly man surrounded by the crowd suddenly widen his narrowed eyes, looking at Byron in shock.
Seeing this, Byron couldn't help but raise his hand to touch his cheek, suspecting whether there was something dirty on his face.
But the next moment, to Byron's shock, the old man didn't hesitate at all, his legs went weak, and he knelt directly in front of Byron, shouting with a trembling voice:
"Grey Stone Village Chief White Moran greets the respected Wizard! I beg the Wizard to forgive our sins!"
With the appearance of this scene, not only was Byron shocked, but even the villagers behind him were dumbfounded.
"Chief, what are you doing? Why did you suddenly kneel down?!"
"It must be that demon opposite us who did it, otherwise how could the Chief be like this!!!"
"Ah! Such a terrifying demon, we should hurry and run!"
"..."
In an instant, the crowd became chaotic, everyone shouting and yelling.
Hearing this noisy sound, Byron frowned slightly, and a sense of annoyance arose in his heart.
Just at this moment, the Chief White who was kneeling on the ground suddenly shouted:
"Quiet down, everyone! Didn't you hear what I just said? That Lord is not some demon, but a respected Wizard!"
"Why haven't you knelt down yet? Apologize to the Wizard with me!"
With these words, the villagers who were shouting just a moment ago quieted down and were actually preparing to kneel.
This White looked quite old, but his voice was still quite loud, and he had considerable prestige in this Grey Stone Village.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to make everyone present shut up and kneel with just one sentence.
Seeing that everyone present wanted to kneel to him, Byron's eyelid twitched slightly.
"Alright, there is no need to kneel. You are the Chief, right? Find a place; I need to ask you some questions."
Byron just wanted to end this farce quickly and learn the information he wanted to know.
So, without waiting for those people to kneel, he immediately spoke up to stop them and stated his purpose.
Hearing this, the villagers who were preparing to kneel stopped immediately, looking at White, somewhat confused about whether they should kneel or not.
White ignored the villagers. After hearing Byron's words, he immediately scrambled up from the ground, a fawning smile on his face, trotted all the way to in front of Byron, and bowed to curry favor.
"Respected Wizard, please move this way. No matter what you want to know, as long as I know it, I will definitely not hold anything back."
Byron nodded slightly and said with a cold expression: "Lead the way."
Seeing this, White was not dissatisfied at all; instead, his smile became even more fawning as he bowed and led the way in front.
As the two of them left, the other villagers in place, after exchanging glances, also left to busy themselves with their own affairs.
It was as if nothing had happened just now.
