123: Chapter 123 Returning to the Academy

After a brief moment of reflection, Byron did not delay and headed straight for the lifting platform used by students.

Without any incident, Byron successfully boarded the lifting platform and headed to the academy.

There were no annoying issues such as the academy declaring him dead, revoking his student ID, or cancelling his status due to his long absence.

When the lifting platform arrived at the academy, Byron's mood had completely settled.

Without further delay, Byron headed straight for Mentor Isolde's Laboratory.

Only by handing over the statue that trapped the God of War and those other items he was carrying to his mentor would this matter truly be over, and his burden truly lifted.

He didn't stop along the way. After passing through the teaching area, garden area, and administrative area, Byron stopped in the dormitory area, which was one zone away from the Laboratory area.

It wasn't because someone blocked his path; he had simply seen an acquaintance.

"Gray, where are you planning to go?"

Looking at Gray, who was standing in the open space as if waiting for something, Byron walked up behind him, tapped him on the shoulder, and asked with a smile.

Gray was startled by Byron's voice and nearly jumped.

Upon seeing the smiling Byron, he was stunned for a moment, staring at him in disbelief.

But soon, Gray reacted, pulling Byron into a hug and patting his back vigorously.

"Byron, where have you been all this time? Eliza and I thought you were dead!"

"Although we asked your senior Colin, he said you were fine, just delayed by some matters and still outside, but we hadn't seen you return and were constantly worried!"

"Now that you're back, we can finally rest easy!"

Hearing the slight choke in Gray's voice, Byron sighed.

But then a smile appeared on his face as he patted Gray: "Didn't I come back? Don't worry, I'm not that easy to kill!"

Gray released Byron, and upon hearing this, his face regained its smile, and he nodded vigorously.

"Right, Byron, I knew that with your personality, you wouldn't die so easily!"

Byron rolled his eyes at Gray, annoyed: "What do you mean by that? What kind of personality do I have? Explain yourself!"

Gray: "I'm just saying you're afraid of death!"

Byron grabbed Gray by the neck and shook him repeatedly: "What do you mean I'm afraid of death? That's clearly being cautious and careful, alright!"

After playing around for a while, they calmed down.

Gray looked at Byron and asked curiously: "Byron, what exactly have you been doing all this time? Shouldn't we have all been teleported to that forest? How come we never saw you?"

"Could it be that you weren't teleported to that forest? Let me tell you, you have no idea..."

At this point, Gray seemed to remember something, wrapped his arm around Byron's shoulder, and headed urgently into the dormitory area.

Byron's body tilted from this sudden movement.

Gray, while pulling Byron along, said:

"It's not just me; Eliza has also been very worried about you. I just came out of her dorm; she should still be there. Let's go find her together and give her a nice surprise."

After taking a few steps following Gray's pull, Byron stopped. Seeing the confused look on Gray's face, he waved his hand with a smile.

"Gray, you go tell Eliza I'm back first, and then could you please wait for me at the Grey Dome Restaurant for a while? I'll come over once I've finished my business, and we can have a good get-together!"

Gray asked, confused: "Didn't you just get back? How do you already have things to do?"

Byron smiled slightly: "There's something I need to give to my mentor; it can't be delayed."

As for what it was, Byron did not tell Gray.

This wasn't because he didn't trust Gray, but because the fewer people who knew about this, the better.

Having come this far, Byron didn't want any more complications.

As the saying goes, the last leg of a journey marks the halfway point. Byron didn't want any accidents at this final, critical moment that would lead to failure.

After all, being tight-lipped starts with oneself. If you can't keep your own mouth shut, how can you expect others to be tight-lipped about your affairs?

That would be ridiculous.

When Gray heard Byron's explanation, he looked at his serious expression and weathered cheeks.

He could sense that Byron wasn't joking and realized the importance of the matter.

Seeing this, Gray nodded with a smile, not asking what the matter was. He just said he would tell Eliza about his return and wait for Byron at the Grey Dome Restaurant with her.

After saying this, Gray waved at Byron with a smile and turned to run towards the dormitory where Eliza was.

Seeing this, Byron sighed in relief, turned, and quickened his pace towards the mentor's Laboratory.

He didn't want to delay for too long and keep Gray and Eliza waiting.

Before long, Byron safely arrived at the experimental spire where Mentor Isolde was located.

Looking at the closed door, Byron didn't hesitate and immediately wanted to push the door open and walk in.

But before he could push the door, the previously closed door opened on its own.

Seeing this, Byron immediately knew that Mentor Isolde must have known he had arrived.

After slightly tidying up his somewhat messy clothes, Byron walked directly into the spire.

As soon as he entered the spire, Byron saw Colin, Elena, and Mentor Isolde sitting on the sofa.

Hearing the commotion, the two of them turned their heads toward the door. Seeing it was Byron, a look of surprise appeared on their faces, and they waved at him.

As for Isolde, she pointed to the sofa opposite her, signaling for Byron to sit across from her.

Seeing this, Byron walked toward the sofa while nodding and smiling in response to Colin and the others' greeting.

Arriving at the sofa, Byron didn't sit down immediately. Instead, he placed the statue of the God of War and the items he had extracted from it in front of Isolde, saying solemnly:

"Mentor, I have brought everything back. Please check if there are any issues."

As for why Byron openly took the items out in front of Colin and the others, whereas he had been secretive when facing Gray earlier.

This wasn't because Byron was treating them differently, but because the situation was different.

When he was with Gray earlier, they were both still apprentices and had no ability to protect these items at all.

Now it was different; who could take the items in front of Mentor Isolde?

Furthermore, since Mentor Isolde knew he had entered and hadn't asked Colin and Elena to leave.

This meant there was no need to be secretive and he could take them out openly in front of the two of them.

Since that was Mentor Isolde's intention, why should Byron act like a petty person?

After seeing Mentor Isolde nod, Byron finally sat on the sofa, a look of comfort appearing on his face.

God knows what kind of days he had been living through during that past period.

Although Byron wasn't greedy for such things, if one could enjoy comfort, who would be stupid enough to go looking for suffering?

There might be such people, but Byron definitely wasn't one of them.

Seeing Byron like this, a faint smile appeared at the corner of Isolde's lips, but it was fleeting, and the three of them did not see it.

As for the gazes of Colin and Elena, they were both fixed on the statue. Before Byron returned, they had heard bits and pieces of information from Isolde, which had made them itching with curiosity.

Now they could finally see it with their own eyes.
