289: Origin of Suixin Temple
Xu Sanyan looked at the collapsed wall, as if Chang Yulian had opened the door wide, inviting him in.
If he wanted to, he could go over at any time and have a night of passion with her, riding her without restraint.
But he didn't dare.
He always felt that the Chang family was up to something, either coveting his treasures or his body,
and it was even more likely they wanted both.
Xu Sanyan shook his head, no longer thinking about these things, and instead began to consider where to go next.
Since the Hundred Saints Secret Realm ended, Xu Sanyan's situation could be described as 'a child holding gold in a bustling market'; many people wanted to know his whereabouts and seize his treasures.
Moreover, he had killed quite a few people and formed enmities with many forces, among whom Venerable He Yu was probably the one most eager to find him, as his son, Tu Wanshan, had died by Xu Sanyan's hand.
Although his situation was dangerous, his gains from this trip were quite substantial; not only had his cultivation successfully broken through to the early stage of Soul Refinement Realm, but he had also obtained three treasures.
Among them, the most valuable was undoubtedly the secret realm fruit, of which there was no doubt; he had only explored a fraction of it, yet he had benefited greatly.
Next was the Jade Slip that recorded the understanding of the Heavenly Dao; the preciousness of this item was no less than that of the secret realm fruit.
His understanding of its contents was less than one-thousandth, but he had been very busy recently and had no time to ponder the Jade Slip; once these matters were settled, he would definitely set aside time to thoroughly comprehend it.
The last treasure was the Nether Phoenix.
This item not only helped him condense his Divine Soul but also enhanced the power of Divine Soul-type spells, imbuing them with the characteristic of Netherflame; moreover, the Netherflame could continuously temper the Divine Soul, removing Impurities and making the Divine Soul more solid.
These three treasures were his greatest gains.
Xu Sanyan flipped through his Storage Pouch and suddenly saw a vibrant color in a corner; he reached in and took it out, unable to help but twitch the corner of his mouth.
This was a red toenail, and when he brought it closer to smell, it had an indescribable scent.
This item was precisely the toenail of the Yaotian Holy Sect's Grand Elder.
He didn't know what use there was in keeping this thing, but after thinking about it, he decided to keep it anyway, as it didn't take up any space.
He casually tossed the nail into his Storage Pouch and, while he was at it, pulled out a Soul Crystal and began to absorb it; ever since he broke through to the Soul Refinement Realm, he could actively draw Soul Power from Soul Crystals to strengthen himself.
As Soul Power surged into his Divine Soul, the Netherflame burning on his Divine Soul began to temper it, removing Impurities from the Soul Power.
He cultivated while pondering his next course of action.
A night passed quickly.
Another Soul Crystal in Xu Sanyan's hand was consumed, leaving seven remaining.
At this moment, there was a sound from next door; Xu Sanyan looked up and saw that Chang Yulian was already awake, sitting at the table, dressing and grooming herself.
Their gazes met through the bronze mirror, and Chang Yulian smiled gently, her smile soft and beautiful.
“Good morning, Young Master.”
“Morning.”
The two simply greeted each other and didn't say much more.
Xu Sanyan pushed open the door and looked up at the sky; the weather today was slightly overcast, indicating it might rain.
After Chang Yulian finished her grooming, she shyly met his gaze, then clasped her hands and curtsied slightly, “This concubine will send someone to repair the wall now. If Young Master has nothing to do, perhaps you could go out for a stroll, to avoid the dust.”
Xu Sanyan slowly nodded, “That would be good. I happen to have some matters I wish to ask Master Chang. Would it be convenient?”
“It should be convenient. This concubine will lead the way for Young Master,” Chang Yulian said with a smile.
“Thank you for your trouble.”
Xu Sanyan turned and picked up the secret realm fruit; the two walked out, one after the other.
Upon leaving the courtyard, Xu Sanyan looked back with a hint of inquiry; he had never actually been to the back of the village, but as a guest, it wasn't appropriate for him to ask.
Seeing this, Chang Yulian explained, “Inside the village, only the elderly of the Family or children reside; there's nothing special there. If Young Master is interested, this concubine can take Young Master for a tour later.”
Xu Sanyan waved his hand repeatedly, “No need. I am already indebted for staying in this precious place; I dare not trouble the host any further.”
True secrets wouldn't be displayed openly, and places harboring secrets wouldn't be accessible to him, so there was no real need to wander around.
He would just wait until his injuries healed, then leave this place and find a stable location to return to the secret realm fruit; presumably, Xun An Cai had been thinking of him for a long time.
He still had a special affection for Xun An Cai; her mind was simple, and once she was good to you, she would invest all her thoughts, without any pretense.
If one were to say who Xu Sanyan trusted the most, it would be none other than Xun An Cai; although they had known each other for a short time, a deep 'friendship' had already been established between them.
Of course, this was relative; if Xu Sanyan's trust in others was zero, then his trust in Xun An Cai would be 0.1,
on a scale where the maximum value is ten thousand.
But it must be acknowledged that Xun An Cai had achieved a Breakthrough, leading by a significant margin, being the first to surpass zero!
A person like Xu Sanyan would absolutely not trust anyone other than himself.
Absolutely anyone!
As he pondered, the two had already arrived at the reception hall; Xu Sanyan sat silently in a chair, waiting, while Chang Yulian went to call Old Master Chang.
Xu Sanyan looked with appreciation at the painting hanging on one side of the hall.
It was a graceful woman with a veiled face, leaning against a railing, gazing far into the distance, a hint of sorrow in her eyes, as if a caged canary yearning for the free world outside.
Although he didn't understand painting, he could feel the artist's superb skill; through the brushstrokes, the Concept was clearly expressed, which was truly remarkable.
“Nephew, are your injuries better?” Old Master Chang walked in with large strides, a genial smile on his face.
Xu Sanyan also smiled broadly, his face full of gratitude, “Thank you for your concern, Master Chang; I'm mostly fine now.”
Both knew that the other was not simple; although there were some hidden contests, neither had torn off their masks.
“I heard from my daughter that Nephew has something to ask me?” Old Master Chang lifted his robe and sat in the main seat, his gaze calm.
“Yes, there are some matters I wish to consult Master Chang about.”
“Please speak.”
Xu Sanyan pondered for a moment, then slowly said, “This junior is new here, like a rootless wanderer, and wishes to find a stable place to pursue the Dao. Does Master Chang have any suggestions?”
Old Master Chang stroked his beard in thought; he understood the implied meaning, which was simply that Xu Sanyan wanted to find a backer, either by joining a Sect or a certain force.
“Nephew, with your exceptional talent and profound cultivation, there are many choices available to you. Apart from Sui Xin Temple, no other force would turn you away, so you can rest assured.”
Xu Sanyan nodded; although he had never considered becoming a monk, he still asked out of curiosity, “What's different about this Sui Xin Temple?”
Old Master Chang had a strange smile on his face, “Heh heh… because Sui Xin Temple doesn't accept outsiders.”
“Hmm?”
Xu Sanyan was stunned. Doesn't accept outsiders?
Then how do they continue their Dao lineage?
If that were the case, wouldn't they have long since become extinct? How could they still be one of the three great Sects of Luan Yun Mountain?
Old Master Chang seemed to see his confusion and said with an inexplicable smile, “Sui Xin Temple is called a Sect, but it is actually a Family. Those monks do not forbid marriage.”
“In other words, Sui Xin Temple is actually a Sect established by several Families working together, where both men and women exist, intermarry, and have wives and children,” Old Master Chang's words were astonishing.
