10: Section 10

"Donnie didn't do it on purpose. You're wearing Dust Citizen clothes; anyone who saw that would try to stop you." Penny still felt a trace of dissatisfaction; after all, in her heart, Donnie was a good man.

Jing Yuan was silent for a moment before asking, "Do you also believe that Dust Citizens are born with lowly lives, to be beaten and scolded at will?"

This question caught Penny off guard.

"If he wanted to remind me, he could have just said something. But he chose to use force. I only looked at him, and he slapped me. When I fought back, he wanted to kill me. Just because I'm wearing Dust Citizen clothes? If I really were a Dust Citizen, would I deserve to die?"

Jing Yuan's series of questions made Penny lower her head.

Penny was essentially a kind person; in her view, Dust Citizens were also human.

Put that way, it was indeed Donnie's fault.

"Bandaging is done."

"Thank you!"

Penny nodded and turned to leave.

Mark sent a message through the communication frequency; they had found the necessary materials inside the building and asked for a few Dust Citizens to be sent over to carry the supplies.

With the task assigned, no one paid attention to Jing Yuan anymore. So, he separated from the main group and went to the outer wilderness.

Jing Yuan took out a dagger; it was Donnie's, which he had swiped just now.

With a thought, Jing Yuan controlled the dagger to fly rapidly into the distance.

Without the constraints of space, Jing Yuan could fully display his power.

Controlling the dagger with Telekinesis to its limit, Jing Yuan estimated it was about a hundred meters away.

"It seems a hundred meters is the limit."

Although Telekinesis had a distance limit, within that range, Jing Yuan could control it at will.

"There's movement!"

Standing in the wilderness, Jing Yuan could feel the presence of the Wasteland Hunters behind him, even the presence of Mark and the others, but at a further distance, he sensed non-human presences.

Telekinesis was inherently a type of Mental Power; the two might even complement each other.

Jing Yuan's Telekinesis control could reach a hundred meters, but his Mental Power's perception range was at least five hundred meters!

Now, he could clearly perceive non-human presences approaching from five hundred meters away.

On The Surface today, these non-human presences were likely Phage Beasts!

Jing Yuan hurried back to the main group.

At this time, Erica had already entered her gravity body to prepare.

Erica was the only acquaintance on the scene, so Jing Yuan had no choice but to go up and tell her, "Erica, notify Captain Mark that Phage Beasts are approaching. Tell him to move faster."

"Phage Beasts? Where?" Erica immediately turned on the radar, but unfortunately, the radar was inaccurate against Phage Beasts; otherwise, they wouldn't be ambushed by them every time.

"Notify Captain Mark first! We'll go to the perimeter to block the Phage Beasts!"

Erica didn't doubt Jing Yuan; this was a basic quality of the Wasteland Hunters—when facing Phage Beasts, it was better to believe they were there than not.

After notifying Mark, she prepared to head out with Jing Yuan to hold off the Phage Beasts.

After speaking, Jing Yuan saw a gravity body nearby and asked Erica, "Whose is this?"

"Corey's."

"Where is he?"

"He followed Mark inside."

After a moment's thought, Jing Yuan jumped directly into Corey's gravity body.

"What are you doing?" Erica cried out in surprise.

Normally, gravity bodies were paired with their pilots.

"Warning! Pilot mismatch detected!"

A warning sounded inside the gravity body, but this was no trouble for Jing Yuan.

He pressed an emergency button inside the gravity body and then gave a voice command: "Activate emergency mode, emergency code: lord of light and shadow 944!"

"Emergency mode activated, code verification successful. Upper Citizen Jing Yuan, identity verification successful! Beginning matching!"

"Matching successful!"

Soon, Jing Yuan was able to operate the gravity body.

Seeing this, Erica said playfully, "Oh, not bad!"

Being able to take over a gravity body was a basic skill for a Wasteland Hunters gravity body pilot.

If there was an emergency and a gravity body was nearby but unusable, that would be too stupid.

"Afu! Let's go, let's kill some Phage Beasts!" Erica called out to the pilot of another gravity body.

The Wasteland Hunters had only brought four gravity bodies on this mission.

Except for Mark's gravity body, which remained in place, the other three moved to the perimeter.

By now, the Phage Beasts were close enough to be seen with the naked eye.

Chapter 10: Killing Phage Beasts

Jing Yuan looked at the Phage Beasts in the distance; using his Mental Power to perceive, he found that more than twenty Phage Beasts had appeared.

Mental Power perception could only sense presence; to know their form, one had to rely on the naked eye.

Fortunately, the Phage Beasts visible to the naked eye were all Pan-genetic Types, not too difficult to fight.

Jing Yuan was the first to charge out.

His reckless appearance caused Erica to shout, but she couldn't stop him.

Although Jing Yuan had experience with flight simulators, he had rarely piloted a real machine, let alone in actual combat.

This was his first time in actual combat!

However, since Jing Yuan's body had been strengthened by the system, his Mental Power was significantly stronger than before, allowing him to pilot the gravity body very smoothly.

Piloting the gravity body felt like using his own body.

Jing Yuan controlled the gravity body to raise its Heavy Rifle and fire at the Phage Beasts.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

One shot, one kill!

Erica was stunned by Jing Yuan's maneuvers; firing while operating a gravity body and firing with one's own hands were completely different things.

Even if Jing Yuan's usual shooting skills were high, his skill in piloting a gravity body shouldn't be this strong.

Erica was excellent among gravity body pilots and had good shooting skills normally, but even she couldn't perform at this level right after boarding a gravity body!

Erica was still shocked by Jing Yuan's piloting skills.

Meanwhile, Jing Yuan had already charged fifty meters away. After hitting five Phage Beasts, two more Phage Beasts flanked him from the left and right.

One Phage Beast bit Jing Yuan's rifle; before he could react, the rifle was snatched away.

He punched the Phage Beast in the head, knocking it unconscious instantly.

Without time to pick up the gun, Jing Yuan grabbed another Phage Beast by the neck, drew the gravity body's Greatsword with his other hand, and thrust it into the Phage Beast's body.

The Greatsword pierced the Phage Beast's chest; the beast struggled for a moment and then became still.

Jing Yuan stared at the Phage Beast, his Mental Power spreading out. He felt an invisible aura flow through the Greatsword and into his body.

This aura flowed into his limbs and bones; Jing Yuan clearly felt his strength increase, and his Mental Power range expanded as well.

"So that's how it is!"

Jing Yuan had been wondering how to absorb the Phage Beast's life source essence; it turned out that killing them was enough!

While Jing Yuan was thinking, another Phage Beast charged at him.

With the help of his Mental Power perception, Jing Yuan had already detected the Phage Beast.

He swung the blade back, decapitating the Phage Beast instantly.

But this time, the ability to absorb life source essence was not triggered.

"What happened?" Jing Yuan was puzzled.

He looked at the Phage Beast and suddenly realized.

Jing Yuan stepped forward and thrust the blade into the Phage Beast's chest.

The first thrust missed, so he thrust again.

Crack!

Jing Yuan sensed something shatter.

Immediately after, the life source essence aura began to transmit through the long sword.

"It turns out I need to hit the spirit seed!"
