89: Section 89

These things actually happened today?

"What's wrong with you?"

Jing Yuan took a long breath.

He recalled that when he watched the pest control animation, the producers took a long time to release the Hall of Dawn episode, so he had always thought that Ran Bing's assignment to the Hall of Dawn happened a few days after the Far-Away Journey ceremony.

Jing Yuan looked at Penny and suddenly asked, "Do you know under what pretext they arranged for Ran Bing to go to the Hall of Dawn? Logically, given Ran Bing's age and rank, it shouldn't be her turn no matter what."

In the original story, it was because Penny died in battle, and Ran Bing became the substitute.

But now that Penny was alive and well, there was no reason for Ran Bing to be the substitute.

"In the last mission, a Wasteland Hunter named Vanessa died in battle, so Ran Bing was made the substitute."

Jing Yuan had never heard of that name.

But it made sense; since Charles wanted to arrange things for Ran Bing, choosing who she would substitute for was just a matter of a single word.

Jing Yuan exhaled deeply. He had originally thought he would have to wait two days, but now it seemed he had to move quickly.

Suddenly, a figure streaked across the sky.

Ran Bing was seen flying around the Lighthouse on a Glider with a young girl.

"It's Ran Bing!"

Penny was startled at first upon seeing this, then she watched Ran Bing with a smile.

Next, Ran Bing would have an accident on the Glider, and Mark would dive to save her.

The two of them would fly through the air quite romantically.

Aside from Jing Yuan and Penny, no one else associated this scene with love.

The people of the Lighthouse had been celibate for too long; such things were unthinkable.

Mark flew Ran Bing past the windows of their teammates.

When they flew past the window of the Law Enforcement Office, Charles saw the scene and snickered while hiding in his room.

At the thought of Mark's state of despair and helpless struggle after openly violating the laws of the Lighthouse.

Charles couldn't help but laugh.

He couldn't wait to witness this scene with his own eyes.

Jing Yuan glanced at Penny and asked, "Want to go watch the drama?"

"Watch the drama?"

Penny looked confused.

Then, Jing Yuan took Penny to the Sky Farm.

It was as if Jing Yuan knew in advance that Mark and Ran Bing would land at the Sky Farm.

The two hid in the shadows, watching Ran Bing's confession to Mark.

"Are all the Phage Beasts wiped out?"

"Is The Surface safe?"

"Can you even count the bodies of the Wasteland Hunters?"

Listening to Mark's series of questions.

Penny, watching from the side, felt it was too much.

"Ran Bing must be so heartbroken right now!"

"Definitely."

"Why won't Mark accept her?"

"He hasn't been able to face his own heart yet."

In the distance, Ran Bing said sadly, "I'm going to the Hall of Dawn, tonight. Do you want me to go through with it?"

Mark replied with a face as ashen as death, "Go finish your mission."

The two of them walked away with their backs to each other.

Jing Yuan looked at Penny and said, "Let's go! We have other things to take care of!"

Chapter 91: Wasteland Hunters Support Mark

Jing Yuan and Penny left the farm. Jing Yuan said to Penny, "Penny, help me gather Mo Cheng, Erica, and the others. I'll go find Snow Peak and Kun Jie. We'll meet at the Supply Warehouse."

"What are you planning to do?"

"Mark might do something unexpected next. We need to ensure that even if he does, the City Lord's power transitions smoothly."

"You think Mark would do something foolish for Ran Bing?" Penny was puzzled. "But he just rejected her."

"It takes time to see one's own heart clearly."

Penny seemed to understand, yet also didn't.

"How come I don't see any of this internal conflict in you? It's like you saw everything clearly from the start."

Jing Yuan smiled slightly. "I just have a different perspective than you all."

"Why don't we just tell Mark that this was all arranged by Charles?"

"I will tell him, but not right now."

Penny nodded, then followed Jing Yuan's arrangement and visited Mo Cheng and the others one by one.

They were all resting when Penny suddenly found them and said Jing Yuan was calling for them.

Although they were confused, they still came as requested out of respect for Jing Yuan.

Jing Yuan found Snow Peak and the others; they were also confused at first.

Jing Yuan only said one thing: "Mark is in danger and needs your help."

And so, all of them came.

No one usually came to the Supply Warehouse; it was one of the few places Jing Yuan knew about.

The people who came were the elites of the Wasteland Hunters team, and also those Jing Yuan knew would definitely help Mark.

The younger generation: Mo Cheng, Erica, Flying Snow. The older generation: Snow Peak, Kun Jie, Gao Ge, Haji, Gavin, Jeff, Corey.

Especially Snow Peak and his group.

In the original story, it was they who persuaded Mark to take the seat first and worry about other problems later.

However, in the end, none of them made it back.

As the eldest brother among them, Snow Peak spoke first, "Jing Yuan, you called us all here saying it's about Mark. What's wrong with Mark?"

Jing Yuan certainly couldn't say that Mark was about to be set up and killed by Charles; otherwise, he would seem too monstrously omniscient.

He could only use the words he had previously used to advise Mark to tell them what might happen next.

"Everyone, before I talk about Mark, let me tell you a story. I read this in a book from the old world—a story about a king and his two sons."

Jing Yuan repeated the historical allusion he had told Mark in front of everyone.

Snow Peak and the other older members understood immediately that Jing Yuan was talking about Mark and Charles.

Snow Peak asked directly, "You think Charles would kill Mark to fight for the position of City Lord?"

Jing Yuan nodded directly and said, "Now that Morgan has announced Mark as his successor, if Charles wants to be the City Lord, killing Mark is the only path left!"

"Hahaha!" Haji laughed. "Jing Yuan, don't you know Mark's strength? Charles killing Mark? With what?"

"Exactly. Among Charles's group, only that 'Big Dog' Sharif can fight a bit. The others are nothing."

Jing Yuan smiled and said, "If Charles could fight Mark one-on-one and win, then so be it, let him be the City Lord. Unfortunately, Charles doesn't have the skill. All he can do is use schemes and plots. Besides, why use a blade to kill, and why do it yourself?"

Snow Peak thought for a moment and said, "Jing Yuan is right! If Charles wants to kill Mark, he definitely won't use conventional means."

Snow Peak was indeed the most experienced Wasteland Hunter. He looked at Jing Yuan and asked, "Jing Yuan, why did you call us here? What do you want us to do?"

Jing Yuan looked at everyone. "Even if Charles wants to move against Mark, he hasn't done anything yet! We can't just barge into the Law Enforcement Office and strike first. What we can do is be prepared, so that once Charles moves, we have the ability to strike back and kill him."

"You don't need to tell us that; we'd do it anyway."

"Exactly!"

Jing Yuan looked at them and believed they could do it.

"There's one more thing. I haven't been with the Wasteland Hunters for long and am not familiar with everyone. I want to know, if... I mean if things progress to the point where we must act, how many among the Wasteland Hunters would support Mark as the City Lord?"

Snow Peak and the others looked at each other and did a quick count. "Currently, there are fewer than a hundred people in the Wasteland Hunters, but eighty percent of them support Mark!"

"So that's about eighty people." Jing Yuan calculated quickly. "Eighty people it is. Eighty armed forces are enough to control the Lighthouse's high command."

"Jing Yuan!" Snow Peak stared at him and asked, "You told me before that you fully support Mark. But I want to know, why do you support him?"

"It's simple," Jing Yuan said with a smile. "Because only Mark can bring change to the Lighthouse."

"Then does Mark know about what you've said?" The one who asked this was Mo Cheng.
