21: Section 21
"Come on! Move forward!"
With a thought from Jing Yuan, the gravity body moved forward as naturally as if it were his own body.
"Jump... run..."
Jing Nan tested them one by one.
Following Jing Nan's instructions, Jing Yuan controlled the gravity body to complete movements such as advancing, jumping, and running.
In comparison, the maneuverability of this gravity body was far superior to that of an ordinary White Shark model.
At this point, Jing Nan was already quite surprised.
Afterwards, Jing Nan took Jing Yuan to an open area outside to control the gravity body for high-intensity combat maneuvers.
"Sword fighting... rifle shooting... dodging..."
Jing Yuan still completed the actions as instructed, which left Jing Nan utterly astonished.
She never expected Jing Yuan to adapt so perfectly.
Jing Yuan piloted the gravity body in front of Jing Nan, opened the visor, and said to her, "I think this gravity body can be enhanced further. Is that possible?"
Jing Nan smiled slightly. This kid was really putting on a show!
"Yes, but there's always a trade-off! I can increase the gravity body's mobility performance by another 20%, but the energy supply won't be able to keep up with the weapon systems. That means you won't be able to use ranged weapons, but close-quarters combat performance will be greatly improved. Can you accept that?"
Upon hearing this, Jing Yuan thought, wasn't this exactly what he needed?
"Great! Modify it just like that!"
At this moment, Jing Nan thought Jing Yuan was a madman. Who would actively request close combat with Phage Beasts?
Erica was also very surprised when she heard this. She was also a gravity body pilot, but she relied primarily on ranged attacks.
Erica quickly said, "Jing Yuan, although your close combat ability is good, most of our combat scenarios rely on firepower to repel Phage Beasts. If you modify it this way, your firepower output will be greatly reduced."
"It's fine, modify it as he said!" Jing Nan said this precisely to make him back down in the face of difficulty. Since he didn't know better, she'd let him suffer a bit.
After emerging from the gravity body, Jing Yuan said to Jing Nan, "Sister Jing Nan, we agreed earlier that besides helping me enhance the unit's performance, you'd also grant me an extra request."
"What do you want?"
"I need magnetic paint!" Jing Yuan grinned foolishly. The material he didn't even have to ask for was now his.
Chapter 21: Jing Nan
Jing Nan took Jing Yuan and Erica to the warehouse where materials were stored.
She walked over to several boxes with labels reading 'MF-3 Paint'.
"This is the magnetic paint you wanted. It's generally used on gravity body weapons to assist with weapon mounting. Since the coating wears off, it requires regular maintenance. There's not much of this stuff left on the Lighthouse either," Jing Nan explained.
"Yes, that's exactly it."
Jing Nan asked curiously, "What do you plan to use it for?"
"To make some small gadgets." Jing Yuan didn't tell Jing Nan it was for making weapons.
Magnetic paint has a wide range of uses and can be used to make many things. When Jing Yuan said 'small gadgets,' Jing Nan thought he meant small toys.
"There isn't much magnetic paint left, so I can't give you a lot!"
"I only need a tiny bit."
The 'tiny bit' Jing Yuan mentioned was relative to a gravity body.
gravity body weapon coating requires a large area; the amount used for one gravity body would be enough for Jing Yuan to make flying daggers.
After retrieving the materials from the warehouse, Jing Nan looked at that gravity body and said, "I'll notify you to come back once I've finished tuning it. Don't ask me to change it back then! A model focused entirely on close combat—even Mark wouldn't dare modify it like that!"
Jing Yuan smiled. Mark was Mark, and he was himself. With his telekinesis, he naturally didn't need long-range firepower weapons.
"For ranged weapons, just equip me with a gravity body pistol!"
It had been a long time since Jing Nan had seen such an arrogant young man. "A pistol's magazine capacity and rate of fire are far inferior to a rifle's. Do you think you can take down Phage Beasts one shot at a time?"
"That depends on how powerful the pistol you equip is. As long as the bullet's power is sufficient, one shot per beast isn't impossible."
"Alright!" Jing Nan no longer wanted to talk. It was only then she remembered that this Jing Yuan before her was the one who had defiantly confronted Charles twice in a row.
Thinking of this, Jing Nan couldn't help but feel curious about Jing Yuan as well.
After leaving the Research Department, Erica was still saying, "Sister Jing Nan was probably just joking with you. Later, you should tell her that, in fact, with the 'Dawnbreaker's' mobility performance, it should be sufficient to handle most situations."
"No, I need close combat capability!" Jing Yuan said seriously. "You saw it last time we went to The Surface. To kill a Phage Beast, you have to destroy that organ, but it's hard to hit that organ with firearms. So I think we should enhance close combat capability. As for long-range firepower, we can coordinate!"
"Coordinate?"
"Look, gravity bodies need energy to support weapon systems, so they can't perform to their absolute limit. Your gravity body sacrifices close combat ability to enhance long-range attack capability. My idea is the opposite. The two of us can form a team. You provide long-range suppression on the Phage Beasts, and I get in close for the kill. Coordinating like this, we can cover each other's weaknesses."
After hearing Jing Yuan's explanation, Erica also nodded, thinking it was a feasible plan.
After bidding farewell to Erica, Jing Yuan returned to the workshop with the magnetic paint.
When 4277 saw that Jing Yuan had obtained the materials so quickly, she admired him even more... The Light Bearer Fan Lü found Jing Yuan and took him to new, high-class housing.
After Jing Yuan officially joined the Wasteland Hunters, he could be reassigned housing.
He and his three roommates all had to move out, vacating the dormitory for the next batch of trainees.
The three roommates moved to the Wasteland Hunters' dedicated dormitory, while Jing Yuan was assigned high-class housing by Charles.
The new housing had one bedroom, one living room, and one bathroom. This set was equivalent to the housing standard for six Upper Citizens.
Jing Yuan looked around the room and said with a smile, "The place Mark lives in is probably about this standard, right?"
"That's correct, it's the same as Mark's housing."
"Won't others have opinions if they find out?"
Fan Lü, still expressionless, said, "Since Leader can let you live here, he naturally has a reason for you to do so."
Jing Yuan walked over and sat on the nearby sofa, looking at Fan Lü. Since Charles was willing to give it, why should he refuse?
Fan Lü continued, "Leader said that after you return from your next mission, he will arrange an opportunity for you. You must grasp it well!"
"What opportunity?"
"You'll know when the time comes."
Fan Lü was still being cryptic, but Jing Yuan didn't care.
"Also. Leader said that since you like women, he will arrange a Breeding Mission for you in the near future. However, it won't be with Jing Nan." Fan Lü looked at Jing Yuan with a disdainful gaze. "Since you want to go to the Hall of Dawn with Jing Nan, you must contribute corresponding value."
Jing Yuan stared directly at Fan Lü and asked, "What about going to the Hall of Dawn with you?"
"I said, it depends on the value you contribute."
"Good, I look forward to that day!"
Jing Yuan watched Fan Lü leave, but inwardly he sneered.
Fan Lü was indeed beautiful and had a great figure, but thinking of her icy personality dampened his interest.
Going to the Hall of Dawn should be about feeling.
Jing Yuan suddenly stood up from the sofa and muttered to himself, "What does Charles mean by arranging a Hall of Dawn mission?"
...In the workshop, 4277 was intently polishing flying daggers. After shaping them, she evenly sprayed the magnetic paint onto The Surface of the daggers.
At that moment, the workshop door suddenly opened, startling 4277.
Looking carefully, it was Jing Yuan who had entered.
Seeing 4277's reaction, Jing Yuan asked with a smile, "You can get scared by that?"
"Um... I'm still not used to working here. It always feels like I'm secretly using Upper Citizens' things."
Jing Yuan laughed. "Don't worry, I've rented this place. No one will come here except me." After saying this, Jing Yuan took out two packages containing milk and bread.
4277 saw Jing Yuan place the packages in front of her and asked incredulously, "Are these for me?"
Jing Yuan nodded with a smile. "Yes."
4277 picked up a piece of bread, still looking at Jing Yuan in disbelief.
Jing Yuan continued smiling. "Eat! I brought them especially for you."
4277 took a bite of the bread and a sip of milk, a satisfied expression appearing on her face.
Normally only able to eat bug cakes, being able to have milk and bread was an extreme luxury for her. The look she gave Jing Yuan held even more gratitude and admiration.
Seeing this scene, Jing Yuan felt somewhat uncomfortable inside.
For Jing Yuan, these things weren't such a big deal.
But for these Dust Citizen women, just a little food was a favor, enough to win them over.
Fortunately, the Lighthouse strictly forbade lustful desires. Even Upper Citizens wouldn't dare risk being burned at the stake for that sort of thing. Otherwise, it would be a never-ending nightmare for the Dust Citizen women.
