54: Section 54

Chu Feng held the instrument, checking it while clearing the way for the team.

Beep!

Seeing the alert on the instrument, Chu Feng hurriedly said, "The air ahead is abnormal. Everyone, put on your masks."

The Team Members behind him quickly put on their masks.

Jing Yuan scanned with his Telekinesis and actually discovered the aura of Phage Beasts ahead.

"Stop!" Jing Yuan commanded, giving no reason.

He needed to sense it carefully.

Within the range of his Mental Power perception, Jing Yuan sensed the aura of at least twenty Phage Beasts.

However, these auras were different from what he had sensed before; they were very faint.

This was the first time Jing Yuan had encountered such a situation; these were indeed the auras of Phage Beasts, and they were numerous.

If they went straight through, casualties would likely be high.

"Jing Yuan, what's wrong?" Kun Jie stepped forward and asked.

"I feel there's danger ahead."

Kun Jie said, "An abnormal air index was detected; it might be due to bromine mist. This happens in places infested by the ecology. If we take precautions, it shouldn't be a big problem."

"It's not bromine mist, it's Phage Beasts." Jing Yuan hesitated for a moment before saying, "Let's go to another area!"

"Yo, the Deputy Captain who was so full of himself just now, why's he acting like a coward? We haven't even encountered anything, and he's already getting cold feet?"

Jing Yuan looked toward the voice; the speaker was Locke.

This guy had been beaten by Jing Yuan and was already resentful, so he naturally took the opportunity to be sarcastic.

"Let's go!" Jing Yuan turned around immediately, not giving Kun Jie a chance to speak.

If he really asked, Jing Yuan would find it hard to explain.

Jing Yuan walked over to the three members of the Light and Shadow Society, staring at Locke, and said, "Since you're so brave, you stay here!"

Jing Yuan then beckoned to Mo Dong, "If they want to stay, give them back their weapons!"

After saying that, Jing Yuan led the others back.

In the end, those three still followed them back.

After returning to The Surface, they went through the previous process again, identified another factory ruin, and then descended underground once more.

In this factory ruin, ecological traces were obvious, and bromine mist filled the air.

The Team Members kept their masks on after going down.

However, after scanning with his Mental Power, Jing Yuan found no aura of Phage Beasts below.

Since Mental Power perception also has distance limits and becomes increasingly blurred from near to far.

Jing Yuan sensed the aura of Phage Beasts in one direction.

This aura was the same as the one he felt before, and the direction also pointed toward that hollow from earlier.

Jing Yuan guessed these were likely the same group of Phage Beasts.

By traveling on The Surface, they had just managed to bypass them.

After confirming it was safe, Jing Yuan gave the order for everyone to search the factory on their own.

Jing Yuan himself stood in the center, keeping an eye on the surroundings.

The three from the Light and Shadow Society stood beside Jing Yuan, watching the Wasteland Hunters search while they did nothing.

Jing Yuan watched them from the side, finding them more and more of an eyesore.

Taking advantage of no one being around, Jing Yuan asked, "What did Charles tell you to come down and look for?"

Fann glanced at Jing Yuan and said, "The Leader said you don't need to know."

"If you don't let me know, how can I assist you?"

"Once the mission is over, just follow us to another Landmark."

"Humph!"

"Jing Yuan, I've found something over here!" Chu Feng's voice came through Jing Yuan's communicator.

"There's an equipment maintenance room here with a lot of repair equipment. I checked, and much of it is still usable."

"Good!"

"Jing Yuan, I've found something here too!" Gao Ge also spoke through the communicator. "I've found a set of food processing machines; I'm checking them now."

"Great!" Jing Yuan immediately ordered, "Everyone, move to Chu Feng and Gao Ge's positions immediately. Prepare to transport the supplies out."

"Yes!"

The Wasteland Hunters Team Members moved the equipment and supplies out and gathered them together.

Kun Jie checked and said, "With this equipment, repairing the food machines on the Lighthouse shouldn't be a problem."

Jing Yuan was also very happy. Being able to bring back supplies without encountering Phage Beasts was partly luck, but also thanks to his Mental Power scan detecting their tracks.

Although it wasted some time, fortunately, there were no casualties.

"Alright! Everyone, get ready to go up. Notify the Lighthouse and synchronize the coordinates."

"Vice-Captain Jing Yuan, your mission is complete. Now it's our turn," Fann spoke up at this moment.

Jing Yuan looked back, giving him an annoyed expression.

"Wait until the supplies are loaded and the convoy has evacuated!"

"What do you mean?"

Jing Yuan simply walked away.

They didn't have weapons now anyway, so Jing Yuan didn't bother with them.

The Wasteland Hunters began transferring the supplies when suddenly something crawled out from a dark corner.

"Ah!"

A Dust Citizen carrying supplies suddenly let out a scream.

Since Mental Power scanning is very mentally taxing, it was impossible for Jing Yuan to release it constantly.

It wasn't until he heard the scream and scanned with his Mental Power that he realized Phage Beasts had approached.

Jing Yuan drove his gravity body to approach rapidly, his sword already raised, but he didn't see any Phage Beasts!

Jing Yuan landed on the ground and asked the Dust Citizen, "Where's the Phage Beast?"

The Dust Citizen pointed ahead.

Jing Yuan looked closely and saw a monster about the size of a local dog ahead.

The monster had a slender body, six legs, and glowing tentacles.

Jing Yuan searched his mind for information on this type of Phage Beast but couldn't find anything similar.

It seemed this was a newly appeared type of Phage Beast.

The Phage Beasts they had encountered in the past were all very large. Except for the Cub Beasts of the Fuzi Beast, this Phage Beast was the smallest he had seen.

The Small Devouring Extremity Beast saw Jing Yuan and suddenly charged at him.

Chapter 56: Covering the Team's Retreat

Jing Yuan raised his hand, and a single strike of his Greatsword cut the Phage Beast in half.

Its size was small, and its defense was very weak.

Jing Yuan looked closely; this Small Devouring Extremity Beast actually had a spirit seed.

This was another point of difference from the Cub Beasts of the Fuzi Beast.

Jing Yuan stepped on the Phage Beast's spirit seed, crushing it directly.

An aura of life source essence was absorbed by Jing Yuan.

Jing Yuan scanned with his Telekinesis and found that these Small Devouring Extremity Beasts were appearing one after another in the surroundings.

A Dust Citizen didn't have time to dodge and was bitten by one of these Phage Beasts. The beast's tentacles glowed as it absorbed the Dust Citizen's life source essence.

Jing Yuan didn't have time to save the Dust Citizen and could only kill the Phage Beast with his sword to avenge him.

Besides Jing Yuan, Erica and Neil were piloting gravity bodies, but facing such small Phage Beasts, their gravity bodies actually had no advantage.

Penny, Mo Dong, and the others didn't have gravity bodies; they were able to kill the Phage Beasts, though not with a single hit, they could manage it after a few shots.

However, their killing of the Phage Beasts only caused them to die temporarily.

Seeing the situation was under control, Jing Yuan didn't go to kill the Phage Beasts but instead delivered the finishing blows to those that had temporarily died.

The three from the Light and Shadow Society found this scene very strange.

But now that the Phage Beasts were attacking and the three of them had no weapons, they shouted, "Give us our weapons! Give us our weapons!"
