194: Section 194
Jing Yuan walked to Jing Nan's side and said, "Let's go!"
The Lighthouse ascended; the Phage Beasts on the ground could no longer threaten them for the time being.
But the Lighthouse could never return to the way it once was.
Many people died in Charles's rebellion, and piles of corpses were sent to the Incineration Room.
Outside the Incineration Room, Mark crouched down and wept uncontrollably as he looked at the bodies of Snow Peak, Gavin, Jeff, and the others.
Among these veteran Wasteland Hunters, only Kun Jie and Gao Ge had decent talent; they were training at Dragon Bone Village on The Surface when the incident occurred.
Jing Yuan's face was grim. He didn't release his emotions like Mark did, appearing terrifyingly somber.
Of his own three roommates, only Chu Feng remained now!
The Wasteland Hunters team had over a hundred people; nearly fifty were at Dragon Bone Village when it happened.
The remaining seventy or so were on the Lighthouse.
To purge Mark's influence, Charles used the Abyss Depthers to slaughter these Wasteland Hunters. Only a dozen or so people escaped the crisis!
On Charles's side, the group of Upper Citizens who incited and rescued him numbered about thirty; combined with Charles's old subordinates and the City Defense Force soldiers who had temporarily defected to Senge, they totaled over a hundred people.
After beheading Charles, Jing Yuan killed most of them, though some cowards had hidden themselves early on when they saw things going south.
After dealing with clotho, Jing Yuan arranged for people to conduct a thorough investigation; he wouldn't let a single one go!
Chu Feng took a list from behind and handed it to Jing Yuan. "These are the people currently identified as having participated in the rebellion!"
Jing Yuan took the list, but before he could look at it, an alarm blared across the Lighthouse.
The piercing sound echoed throughout every corner of the Lighthouse.
Jing Yuan had never heard an alarm on the Lighthouse. He walked over to Mark and asked, "What alarm is this?"
Mark also looked bewildered, indicating he didn't know either.
Just then, Jing Nan said over the communication frequency, "This is an incoming Phage Beast alarm!"
Jing Yuan asked in confusion, "We've already ascended. Where would a Phage Beast come from?"
Jing Nan explained, "Years ago, the Lighthouse programmed an alarm system based on Phage Beast energy signatures. When a Phage Beast's energy reaches a certain level and approaches the Lighthouse, the warning alarm sounds."
"In my memory, I don't think I've ever heard this type of alarm!"
"Because the Lighthouse hasn't encountered this type of Phage Beast for many years!"
"What Phage Beast?"
"A Monarch-level Shi Ji Beast!"
As soon as Jing Nan finished speaking, everyone on the communication frequency was shocked.
Indeed, the Lighthouse hadn't encountered a Monarch-level Shi Ji Beast in many years!
Jing Yuan rushed to the edge of the platform, with Mark and the others following close behind.
They looked down.
By now, the Lighthouse had broken through the cloud layer and reached a very high altitude.
Jing Yuan said, "At this height, even a Monarch-level shouldn't be able to make it up here, right?"
"It's not below us!" Jing Nan stared at the radar screen, her expression also one of disbelief. "It's in the air!"
Jing Yuan's gaze shifted toward the distance.
He saw the clouds below churning as a pair of massive wings emerged, constantly stirring the cloud layer.
With a flap of those giant wings, a massive silhouette lunged out from the clouds.
It had a pair of giant membranous wings, a short neck, a sturdy body, four limbs, and a tail.
It looked very much like a dragon from legends and myths.
Everyone standing at the edge of the platform saw this sight.
Some people were unwilling to believe it, even rubbing their eyes to confirm if they were seeing things.
The result: they weren't.
"What is that monster?"
"It's a Phage Beast!"
"Nonsense, there's no such thing as a Flying Phage Beast!"
Mark acted decisively, immediately issuing orders over the communication frequency: "All departments, enter combat status!"
In an instant, all the Wasteland Hunters began to spring into action.
Mark looked at Mo Cheng beside him and asked, "How many missiles do we have left?"
"Not many, just a few! And there's no guarantee they're in good condition."
Most of the weapons used on the Lighthouse were scavenged from The Surface.
Some were very old and likely to be duds.
When they used missiles against the Twin-Jawed Beasts earlier, there were two duds.
"Doesn't matter, use them anyway!"
"Yes, sir!"
The Wasteland Hunters immediately brought various weapons to the edge of the platform.
The Flying Phage Beast drew closer and closer to the Lighthouse. The Wasteland Hunters raised their rifles and sniper rifles to fire at it, but the bullets had no effect whatsoever.
Jing Yuan waved his hand and told them, "Stop firing! The caliber of those bullets can't hurt it at all! Don't waste your ammo."
At that moment, four missiles flew toward the Phage Beast. Every single one struck its body, resulting in violent explosions.
The Phage Beast's body was scorched by high-heat energy, its skin and muscle tissue festering and decaying.
But once the Phage Beast charged out of the explosion's aftereffects, The Surface muscles and skin quickly repaired themselves.
The Phage Beast charged straight ahead, slamming headfirst into the Lighthouse's outer hull.
Boom!
The entire Lighthouse shook from the impact.
Clatter!
Solar panels on the outer hull came crashing down.
Though the Phage Beast was massive, compared to the entire Lighthouse, it had only smashed one corner.
Everyone unaware of the situation rushed outside.
The people from Dragon Bone Village also ran to the edge of the platform after feeling the vibration.
Jing Yuan looked at Bai Yuekui and pointed at the Phage Beast, asking, "Is that Phage Beast Monarch-level?"
Chapter 197: central electromagnetic cannon
Bai Yuekui watched the Flying Phage Beast; without having engaged it in combat, she couldn't be certain of its level.
Bai Yuekui thought for a moment and said, "This is a Phage Beast that has completed its metamorphosis. Even if it's not Monarch-level, it's close!"
"How do we fight this?"
Jing Yuan's question stumped Bai Yuekui.
Setting aside the fact that Bai Yuekui had never encountered a flying Monarch-level Shi Ji Beast, even if she had, she would need to be wearing the lin yuan zhe armor to defeat it!
Bai Yuekui was unable to answer for a moment.
The Flying Phage Beast turned back again.
On the periphery of the Lighthouse was the Dust Citizen Suspension Zone.
A large number of Dust Citizens lived in these "Pigeon Cages" suspended from the Lighthouse.
The Phage Beast flew over; this time, instead of ramming the hull, it headed toward the suspension zone.
However, the suspension zone was filled with hanging iron cables. As the Phage Beast flew in, its wings were obstructed by the cables, preventing them from fully extending.
The Phage Beast landed on one of the Suspended Buildings, causing the entire structure to sway.
Before the Phage Beast could even steady itself, the iron cables of the Suspended Building could no longer bear the weight and snapped.
The Phage Beast flapped its wings and took flight, but the Suspended Building began to fall.
"Fire!"
Mark commanded the missiles to continue firing to block the Phage Beast's approach.
Seeing the Suspended Building falling, Jing Yuan almost instinctively used his Telekinesis to control the entire structure.
That Suspended Building was about seven or eight stories high and housed at least dozens of Dust Citizens.
Jing Yuan didn't know if he could catch the building.
He applied nine strands of Telekinesis to the Suspended Building simultaneously.
