123: Section 123

Carrie walked up to Jing Yuan. "I'm very interested in your superpower. When you have time, let me study it."

Jing Yuan smiled. "I don't have time right now."

"Alright, I'll come find you again when you're free!"

Jing Yuan didn't answer and walked straight out of the Ecology Research Institute.

Although Carrie was the chief scientist of the Lighthouse, her notable achievements were mediocre at best.

After leaving the Ecology Research Institute, Jing Yuan returned to the Research Department.

Jing Nan was a bit surprised to see Jing Yuan leave and return.

"Where did you go just now?"

"To Dr. Carrie's!"

Jing Nan more or less guessed what it was about and asked simply, "How was the research?"

"We only know that the gene potion can stimulate the growth of muscle and nerve tissue, giving the user superhuman strength."

Jing Nan wasn't surprised either. "The old world had gene-modified humans. However, the Lighthouse stopped research in that area long ago. How did Charles get his hands on it?"

"Probably found for him by his private Wasteland Hunters."

Speaking of which, Jing Nan suddenly asked, "By the way, Charles has a private collection room. I haven't been there yet, but maybe it has what you need!"

Jing Yuan looked at the parts on the table and asked, "You don't have them here?"

"The Plasma Light Blade material I have here is only enough to make your war blade. Moreover, the micro-energy source you need to make flying daggers is missing."

"A micro-energy source?" Jing Yuan suddenly pulled out a plasma dagger and asked, "Can we modify it using this?"

"Where did you get that?"

"Uh..." As soon as Jing Yuan took out the dagger, he recalled the suggestive scene from when he had seized it.

"From Charles!"

"The Law Enforcement Office is under your control now. Take me to Charles's collection room to have a look."

Jing Yuan made a gesturing motion for her to lead the way and said, "I haven't gone to see it myself yet. It's a good chance to gain some experience."

...In a hidden corner within the Law Enforcement Office lay Charles's private collection room.

Over the years, Charles had controlled the Light and Shadow Society and turned the Law Enforcement Office into his private territory, decorating it however he pleased.

As Jing Yuan and Jing Nan walked into the collection room, their eyes were greeted by various famous paintings, goldware, jade, porcelain, medieval armor, longswords, and more.

Charles collected a wide variety of things, mostly cultural relics.

Jing Yuan said with a smile, "I suppose he's preserving cultural relics for human civilization!"

Jing Nan remained silent.

She knew Charles lived a life of luxury, but she hadn't expected it to be like this.

How much manpower and resources must have been consumed to bring these things onto the Lighthouse.

Jing Yuan had actually thought of a good excuse for him. But this was the apocalypse; human survival should be the first priority.

The Lighthouse cried about resource shortages every day, yet it could still spare the effort to collect these trinkets.

Jing Nan continued walking forward. The items in the front were just cultural relics from the old world, while those in the back were technological products.

Jing Yuan's gaze was drawn to a set of black armor.

This armor was made of the same material and style as his own. However, Jing Yuan's was a male version, while this one was a female version.

"He actually has a set of this armor too."

Jing Nan wasn't surprised and said calmly, "This was among the supplies you brought back. Charles took it from me."

Jing Yuan was stunned. "He just took it?"

Jing Nan searched the items in the room expressionlessly, saying, "As long as it's something he wants, he'll find a way to take it."

Jing Yuan shook his head helplessly; that truly fit Charles's character.

"Well, now you can take the armor back." Jing Yuan looked Jing Nan up and down. "I think you'd look great in it."

Jing Nan looked back at him. "I'm not a warrior."

Jing Nan's gaze focused as she discovered something else.

Chapter 127: Venturing Alone into the Ecology Zone (9th Update)

Jing Nan walked straight over to a display case where several daggers were placed.

Jing Nan took down one of the daggers and turned on the power switch.

Buzz!

The dagger lit up with a Plasma Light Blade.

Jing Nan brought the dagger to Jing Yuan and said, "It seems he did collect some useful things."

With a little modification, these daggers could be used as flying daggers.

After finding the daggers, Jing Nan continued her search and discovered another item that surprised her.

Jing Nan walked over, picked up a metal cone, inspected it carefully, and said, "This thing is still in good condition."

Jing Yuan walked over to look and asked curiously, "What is this?"

"An industrial-grade portable laser drill." Jing Nan looked at Jing Yuan and said, "I saw you use a black drill when you were dealing with Phage Beasts on The Surface. Since you can control objects with Telekinesis, wouldn't you be invincible if you paired it with this laser drill?"

Jing Yuan's eyes lit up. "You're a genius."

Charles's collection room truly gave Jing Yuan quite a few surprises.

Jing Yuan and Jing Nan took the useful items, and then he arranged for people to move everything from the collection room to the Light and Shadow Society Cathedral.

An exhibition area was set up on the side of the cathedral specifically to display the old world items Charles had collected.

The Lighthouse strictly prohibited private collections of old world items, yet the former Leader Charles had been the biggest collector.

Not only that, but Jing Yuan also arranged for people to expose all of Charles's past atrocities against the Dust Citizens.

Originally, Jing Yuan didn't know about these things. He only remembered that in the original story, Charles had killed a Dust Citizen girl to threaten 4068.

Jing Yuan thought that was the only case. But he didn't expect that upon investigation, there were actually many more.

As Charles's past scandals were publicized one by one, his image plummeted from a failed coup plotter to a demon.

The Lighthouse citizens now hated Charles as much as they had hated the Phage Beast Mark in the original story.

Fortunately, Charles was locked up in the Law Enforcement Office; if he were paraded through the streets, he would likely be stoned to death.

With Jing Yuan's actions, Charles lost all his prestige.

Furthermore, after two battles, Charles's die-hard supporters were mostly dead, and the remaining ones couldn't cause any more trouble... "Leader Jing Yuan!"

"Leader Jing Yuan!"

As Jing Yuan walked down the path, people greeted him one after another.

Because Mark had abolished the title of "Lord," everyone now added their job titles after their names.

Penny walked beside Jing Yuan and sighed, "It's only been a few days, and Mark has become the City Lord while you've become the Leader. We can finally walk openly on the streets. The Lighthouse no longer feels like a cage."

Jing Yuan smiled and said, "The Lighthouse was never meant to be a cage. However, the three great laws haven't been abolished yet, so we still have a long way to go."

Penny looked at Jing Yuan. "I heard you're going down to The Surface, to the Ecology Zone?"

Jing Yuan nodded.

"Aren't you going to wait for Mark to wake up?"

"I won't wait." Jing Yuan looked at Penny. "How is Mark doing?"

"He hasn't woken up yet, but his vital signs are stable." After saying that, Penny asked again, "So, who do you plan to take down with you this time?"

"Just me!"

"How can you go alone?" Penny was very worried. Even if Jing Yuan had superpowers, the Ecology Zone was too dangerous; he wouldn't even have someone to watch his back.

"Don't worry, I'm just going to scout the way. With my abilities, escaping won't be a problem."

Penny was still worried. "Then at least take me with you!"

"The Ecology Zone is too dangerous. You should stay on the Lighthouse!"

Penny felt a bit dejected. Although she was considered an elite Team Member among the Wasteland Hunters, she was still far behind Jing Yuan.

If she went with Jing Yuan, she wouldn't be able to help and might even become a burden.

"Alright! I'll wait for your return on the Lighthouse! When do you plan to set off?"

"Tomorrow morning."
