90: Section 90
"I told him, but with Mark's personality..."
"He won't agree with your idea," Mo Cheng countered.
"Right!" Erica added from the side. "Even if Captain Mark doesn't become the City Lord, he wouldn't resort to killing others. If Charles wants to be the City Lord, just let him have it."
Jing Yuan shook his head helplessly and said, "Erica, things aren't as simple as you think. It's true, Mark might not want to be the City Lord. But think about it: if Charles becomes the City Lord, what will the Lighthouse become? What kind of organization is the Light and Shadow Society he manages? They do nothing all day but control people's minds and oppress the citizens. What has the Lighthouse relied on to survive until today? It's us, the Wasteland Hunters, risking our lives on The Surface to gather supplies! It's the labor of the Agricultural and Production Departments! But in their mouths, all of this is the credit of the lord of light and shadow! They say it's the lord's credit, but in reality, they claim it's the credit of the Light and Shadow Society, the Leader, and Charles himself! What has Charles ever done? Has he ever gone to The Surface to collect supplies even once? Or planted a single grain of rice in the Agricultural District? Nothing! Think about it, if a person like that becomes the City Lord, what will become of the Lighthouse?"
Corey and the others nodded one after another, saying, "Jing Yuan is right! If we let that group from the Light and Shadow Society take power, the Lighthouse is finished. In comparison, Mark is the only choice for City Lord!"
"Right! We support Mark for City Lord! Only then will the Lighthouse see some change."
Jing Yuan looked at everyone and said, "My original intention wasn't to kill Charles. I just need everyone to understand the potential danger, and then help Mark smoothly take the position of City Lord. We will lead everyone to change the Lighthouse together."
"Exactly!"
Snow Peak and the others were the people left behind by Mark's elder sister; they were his strongest supporters and the ones who wanted to protect him most.
"I understand," Snow Peak said. "Perhaps we should have done this back then."
Jing Yuan knew what situation Snow Peak was referring to—the time when Red Calyx openly violated the three great laws and was executed by fire.
This was also an indelible pain in the hearts of Snow Peak and the others.
"Of course, force is our last resort. We don't want to see internal strife within the Lighthouse either. But if things go against our wishes, force is also the most effective means."
"Good!"
After reaching an agreement, everyone went their separate ways.
Jing Yuan went to the Research Department again; he went straight to 4277, handed her a pistol, and told her to protect herself.
Seeing the pistol, 4277 seemed to understand something.
After finishing this, Jing Yuan went to the Gene Optimization Institute and found Melissa.
Chapter 92: Storming the Hall of Dawn
The Hall of Dawn.
A disheartened Ran Bing walked into the Hall of Dawn with a heart as cold as death.
Beneath the golden mask, a few tears welled up in her beautiful eyes.
Surrounded by a group of Law Enforcers, Ran Bing entered the golden hall.
A strong man wearing a golden mask was waiting in the hall.
As the golden doors slowly closed, Ran Bing's heart felt like a dead silence.
The Law Enforcement Office had arranged for eight Law Enforcers to stand around to ensure the mission proceeded smoothly.
The man in the golden mask saw Ran Bing's reluctance, so he stepped forward and said softly, "Don't be afraid. This is the sacred mission bestowed upon us by the lord of light and shadow; we must pass on excellent genes."
"Bullshit!"
A shout rang out in the hall like a clap of thunder!
Ran Bing looked toward the source of the sound, feeling both disappointed and shocked!
The person who arrived was actually Jing Yuan!
Not Mark?
The two people in shock looked at Jing Yuan together.
Ran Bing was the first to snap back to reality and asked in confusion, "Jing Yuan, why are you here?"
One had to know that this was the Hall of Dawn; intruding at will was a violation of the Lighthouse's laws.
"Vice-Captain Jing Yuan, do you know the consequences of violating the Lighthouse's laws?" Two Law Enforcers blocked the way.
"Of course I know. However, the ones violating the Lighthouse's laws are you, not me!"
The two Law Enforcers charged at Jing Yuan first, swinging the iron whips in their hands toward his head!
Jing Yuan first dodged to the side, then kicked the Law Enforcer on the front right away, and then snatched the iron whip from the Law Enforcer on the left with one hand.
With his weapon snatched away, the Law Enforcer panicked.
Jing Yuan looked at him; since these guys were all aiming for the head without showing any mercy, he didn't need to be polite either.
Jing Yuan swung the iron whip and struck, the whip lashing across the Law Enforcer's face.
With this strike, life and death were left to fate!
The rest of the Law Enforcers rushed up together; Jing Yuan held the iron whip, dealing with each person with one strike, without any hesitation.
In just one round, all eight Law Enforcers had fallen.
Jing Yuan looked at the eight Law Enforcers on the ground—they had actually arranged eight! And all of them were men!
Charles was truly afraid that the mission wouldn't be completed!
Jing Yuan walked over slowly. He glanced at the masked man and turned to Ran Bing, saying, "Ran Bing, this isn't some bullshit sacred mission. It's just a trap, a transaction!"
"A trap? A transaction?"
Jing Yuan pointed to the big guy next to them and said, "This guy is named Loriv. He applied for the Wasteland Hunter assessment before and was accepted, but he didn't report for duty. Later, I found out that Charles took a liking to him and recruited him into the Law Enforcement Office to become Charles's private Wasteland Hunter."
Speaking of this Loriv, Ran Bing seemed to have some impression of him.
"To lure him to the Law Enforcement Office, Charles must have given him many benefits! This mission in the Hall of Dawn is one of the benefits he received."
Jing Yuan looked at the masked man. "I'm right, aren't I? Loriv!"
"You're talking nonsense!" The masked man looked at Jing Yuan; although he was tall and strong, he didn't dare to make a move against Jing Yuan.
He knew Jing Yuan's strength!
Jing Yuan gave a cold laugh, moved his body, and punched the masked man in the face.
The man's mask was knocked off, and he was sent sprawling to the ground.
Ran Bing looked at the face beneath the mask and said in surprise, "It's you!"
There were only so many people on the Lighthouse; although most names weren't remembered, they had impressions of seeing each other once.
And this Loriv had used various excuses to see Ran Bing several times.
Charles wouldn't just find any random person to do the mission with Ran Bing when he arranged for her to come to the Hall of Dawn.
He would definitely "incidentally" satisfy his subordinate.
Jing Yuan walked toward Loriv, who kept backing away.
Although this guy was huge, in front of Jing Yuan, he didn't even have the courage to fight back.
Jing Yuan took out a recorder and walked toward Loriv, saying, "Speak! What was your transaction with Charles?"
"Jing Yuan, sabotaging a mission in the Hall of Dawn is a serious crime!" Loriv was still trying to reason with Jing Yuan.
Jing Yuan was unfazed; he smiled and said, "Who is committing a crime? Don't you know in your heart? I just came from the Gene Optimization Institute. On today's Breeding Mission list, your name isn't on it at all. You and Ran Bing were forcibly inserted!"
Loriv was stunned; he obviously knew what the real situation was!
Jing Yuan moved, rushed over, and threw another punch at Loriv!
"Bam!"
He knocked Loriv straight to the ground!
"Speak!"
"Jing Yuan, you'll regret this!" Loriv was still being stubborn.
"Crack!"
Jing Yuan stepped on and broke Loriv's leg.
Ran Bing hurried forward to stop Jing Yuan. "Jing Yuan! The missions in the Hall of Dawn aren't something we individuals can change. He didn't have a choice either, right?"
Jing Yuan looked at Ran Bing and said with a serious face, "Ran Bing, do you think he's innocent?"
Jing Yuan grabbed Loriv by the neck, lifted him up, and said fiercely, "Tell me, what was your transaction with Charles? Why did he arrange for you to do the Hall of Dawn mission with Ran Bing!"
Loriv knew he was no match for Jing Yuan; he forced a smile. "Don't you already know everything? Why ask me?"
"I want you to say it yourself!"
"I won't say it!"
"If you don't talk, I'll cripple your limbs," Jing Yuan said with a sinister smile. "By the way! Sharif outside will only end up worse than you!"
Loriv's pupils shrank suddenly, as if his sore spot had been touched.
Jing Yuan's smile became even more sinister.
Sharif, Loriv.
Their builds were similar, and their names were similar; what was the relationship between them?
There was a scene in the original work: after Sharif was crippled by Mark, the big guy Loriv sat by Sharif's hospital bed with a face full of anger.
And later, he shattered Ran Bing's flesh soil with a single shot.
Wasn't all of this to vent his anger on Mark?
