8: Section 8

Neil gave a bitter smile and said, "That was a simulated gravity body pilot session. In a real flight, facing Phage Beasts, it might not go the same way."

"Then have you ever thought about it? If one day the Phage Beasts can fly, will we still be safe staying on the Lighthouse?"

"Phage Beasts can fly?"

Everyone was very confused by Jing Yuan's words.

"How could Phage Beasts fly!" Mo Dong smiled, thinking he was joking.

"I'm serious," Jing Yuan said solemnly. "I once read a report saying that Phage Beasts are actually constantly evolving, and it's very likely they will evolve flight capabilities in the future. So I believe that instead of waiting for them to evolve flight and attack us, we should prepare in advance."

Jing Yuan looked at Neil and said gravely, "Think about it, if that day really comes! Who would survive more easily: us Wasteland Hunters who have fought a hundred battles against Phage Beasts, or those useless wastes from the Law Enforcement Office and the City Defense Force?"

"Jing Yuan is right! In the apocalypse, only by strengthening your own power can you survive more easily!"

Neil thought for a moment and finally nodded in agreement.

Chu Feng patted Neil on the shoulder and said, "Don't worry! Ever since Captain Marc became the Wilderness Hunter Commander, the mortality rate for Wasteland Hunters has dropped significantly. There won't be too much danger."

Mo Dong, however, said, "We don't even need Captain Marc; we can protect you ourselves!"

Jing Yuan nodded to himself.

The words he spoke to Neil were from the bottom of his heart.

However, there was also some selfishness involved.

After the recent incident, he had completely offended the Light and Shadow Society and the City Defense Force.

Charles wouldn't let him go, and he wouldn't let the people from the Light and Shadow Society and the City Defense Force go either.

A man of character must settle his scores!

Sooner or later, he would take down the Light and Shadow Society and the City Defense Force!

If his brothers of many years were standing on the opposite side when that time came, Jing Yuan would find it hard to act.

After the four roommates finished chatting, it was already very late, so they went to sleep.

Jing Yuan slept especially comfortably; after all, he hadn't rested well for two nights.

The next day, Jing Yuan did not wake up early.

His roommates didn't disturb him so that he could get some good rest.

Everything on the Lighthouse was as usual.

After Jing Yuan woke up, he went straight to the cafeteria to eat. People were pointing and whispering about him on the way, but he didn't care.

After breakfast, Jing Yuan went to a secluded place, preparing to experiment with his Telekinesis.

After three years of continuous training check-in tasks, what he had unlocked was actually Telekinesis.

Jing Yuan's current physical fitness was more than ten times stronger than before, but that was just a byproduct of unlocking the Telekinesis talent.

Just how strong would the real protagonist, 'Telekinesis', be?

Jing Yuan took out a small steel ball, and with a thought, the steel ball rose into the air.

Jing Yuan focused his energy, and with a 'shoo', the steel ball shot out like a bullet, quickly disappearing from sight.

However, while it was visually untraceable, in Jing Yuan's consciousness, his Telekinesis always held a firm grip on the steel ball.

Jing Yuan smiled slightly; with just a simple experiment, he already knew the effects of Telekinesis.

Jing Yuan controlled the steel ball to return to his hand. Suddenly, he felt someone approaching and immediately tucked the ball away.

There were no special abilities on the Lighthouse, so he still had to hide the matter of Telekinesis.

Unfortunately, the Lighthouse was only so big, and Jing Yuan couldn't find a suitable training ground. It seemed he would have to find an opportunity to test it down below.

Jing Yuan arrived at the school.

According to the previously set schedule, today should have been the day for the preliminary assessment.

Each department would conduct preliminary selections based on registration information.

But upon entering the school, everything inside was as usual.

Jing Yuan asked someone and learned that the staff responsible for the recruitment exam had fallen ill collectively, so the recruitment work was postponed.

Furthermore, medical supplies on the Lighthouse were currently scarce. To get medicine to treat these people, the Wasteland Hunters had to be deployed urgently.

Upon hearing this news, Jing Yuan hurried to the Armament Preparation Depot to find Marc.

He didn't care when the assessment would take place; what he needed most now was to go to The Surface and kill Phage Beasts!

Chapter 8: Sneaking Down to The Surface

Inside the Armament Preparation Depot, the Team Members were all busy with their own tasks.

Jing Yuan found Marc in the crowd and quickly ran over, saying, "Captain Marc, you're heading out on a mission, right? Take me with you!"

Marc said seriously, "This mission is urgent, and I don't have time to look after you. Wait for next time!"

"I don't need you to look after me! I have the ability to protect myself."

Marc looked back at Jing Yuan and said earnestly, "Jing Yuan, The Surface is not as simple as you think. Wait for next time!"

After Marc finished speaking, he patted Jing Yuan on the shoulder and then left.

Jing Yuan was somewhat disappointed, but on second thought, it would be very difficult to get someone like Marc to break the rules for him.

It seemed he would have to find a way himself.

Every time the Wasteland Hunters went out, besides the Team Members, there were also many Dust Citizens.

Jing Yuan changed his clothes and mingled with the group of Dust Citizens to board the vehicle.

No one noticed, and no one conducted an inspection.

Dust Citizens were cheap labor and cannon fodder; no one cared about them.

Moreover, most Dust Citizens were numb and honest, so as Jing Yuan mingled among them, no Dust Citizen noticed anything unusual.

Jing Yuan sat in the armored vehicle as the elevator platform slowly descended to The Surface.

When the Wasteland Hunters performed missions, they would choose to land at the nearest supply marker.

The vehicle drove for about ten minutes before coming to a stop.

A Wasteland Hunter wearing armor called for everyone to get out.

The expressions of the several young men sitting opposite Jing Yuan were numb, but they quickly got out of the vehicle upon hearing the command.

Jing Yuan also followed them out. He saw the Dust Citizens starting to carry weapons and ammunition from the vehicle, so he followed suit.

On the other side, two Wasteland Hunter Team Members and some Dust Citizens were unloading an exoskeleton armor from the vehicle.

This thing was a gravity body.

Jing Yuan had studied on simulators at school; opportunities to pilot the real thing were few and far between.

Furthermore, the instructional gravity bodies left on the Lighthouse were all retired units; this was his first time seeing a gravity body in service on The Surface.

The paint on the gravity body still bore bullet marks and claw scratches, which seemed to add a bit more dominance to its appearance.

"You guys prepare here; we'll head in first to take a look!" Marc holstered his pistol and then led a team of ten, including Ran Bing, toward a building.

Jing Yuan observed the exterior of the building; there was a cross symbol on it, so it should be a hospital or a similar place.

After Marc led the team into the building, over a dozen people remained outside, including Wasteland Hunter Team Members and Dust Citizens.

The Wasteland Hunter Team Members stood guard with their guns, while the Dust Citizens were preparing the gravity bodies.

Jing Yuan had come down pretending to be a Dust Citizen, but he didn't know how to do a Dust Citizen's job.

He walked over to a nearby weapon crate, looked at the weapons inside, and couldn't help but pick one up to feel it.

The real deal was definitely different!

Slap!

Jing Yuan was suddenly slapped on the head.

The other party's force was quite strong, but fortunately, after his body had been strengthened, his ability to take a hit had also improved.

Although he was fine, Jing Yuan looked back at the person with great displeasure.

It was a young man with a beard, wearing Wasteland Hunter armor.

Seeing Jing Yuan look back, he even barked, "Dust Citizens aren't allowed to touch Upper Citizen weapons, don't you know that?"

Jing Yuan said irritably, "If I can't touch it, I can't touch it. You could have just said so, why did you have to hit me?"

Normally, when a Dust Citizen was hit, they would scurry away dejectedly.

But someone like Jing Yuan, who not only didn't admit fault but questioned back instead, was seen as committing a great act of disrespect by an Upper Citizen.

"Are you looking for death!" The bearded man raised his hand, preparing to give Jing Yuan another slap to teach him about status.

Jing Yuan stared fixedly at the other party, watching as the slap descended.

Slap!

This slap was crisp and loud.
