36: Chapter 36 A Chance Encounter: Former Best Brothers

After buying the house, Zhang Shan called Zhang San, asking him to come and take Li Chao back. He was going to handle the school enrollment procedures for Li Chao.

"Zhao Zhao, big brother is going to get the things needed for your school enrollment. Zhang San will be back in a while to pick you up, so go home with him first. I'll be back a little later."

Li Chao nodded obediently.

After Zhang San took Li Chao away, Zhang Shan set off for The Emperors Place Bar.

"Brother Moriarty, what did you want to see me about?"

"Oh, nothing much. I heard that Zhao Zhao is starting school, so I called you to see if there was anything else I could help with. Is Zhao Zhao's household registration done? If there's no registration, it won't be easy to sign up for school. Without it, they won't let her attend school."

"There's no need to trouble yourself with that, Brother. I have my own ways."

"Oh, don't be so distant. Actually, it's not just me who's concerned; Mona is quite concerned about that child, Zhao Zhao. I can tell that Mona likes Zhao Zhao very much."

"She mentioned to me once that since Zhao Zhao is at the age to start school, I should help prepare things. Isn't this perfect? You want Zhao Zhao to attend school, and I've been asked by Mona to help prepare Zhao Zhao's school documents."

"Just consider it me helping fulfill one of Mona's wishes. Don't refuse me."

Since things had been put this way, if Zhang Shan were to refuse Moriarty's kindness again, it would make him seem ungrateful.

Seeing that Zhang Shan was no longer refusing, he waved his hand, signaling his subordinate to hand the prepared documents to Zhang Shan.

"The school Zhao Zhao is enrolling in is the best in all of Zhili Country. It's called St. Tos School, and it has campuses from kindergarten all the way to university. This is the only small thing I can do for Mona."

Moriarty sighed.

"Brother, can I ask a favor of you?"

Zhang Shan nodded, signaling him to continue.

"In the future, could you bring Zhao Zhao here more often? If not here, you can call Mona directly and let her go see Zhao Zhao. She really likes that little girl."

"Alright, no problem. Brother, you've done so much for Zhao Zhao; if I didn't even agree to such a small thing, wouldn't that make me unreasonable?"

"Hahaha, Brother Zhang Shan, you are truly a man of your word."

Outside the door, Mona covered her face and wept.

She had heard their entire conversation. She hadn't intended to eavesdrop; she had just happened to encounter them.

She hadn't expected Moriarty to care so much about her feelings. It would be a lie to say she wasn't moved.

Zhang Shan bid farewell to Moriarty. He drove his car, wandering leisurely down the street. He wanted to buy something for Zhao Zhao to make her happy.

The streets were bustling, prosperous, and beautiful.

"Stop, don't run! He stole my things! Catch him, quickly, catch him!"

Zhang Shan was drawn by the commotion.

A thief running at high speed passed in front of Zhang Shan. Originally, Zhang Shan didn't want to meddle in other people's business, but he couldn't resist the cries of the masses! He had no choice but to passively chase after the thief.

The thief had surprisingly good stamina. Even for a top-tier assassin like Zhang Shan, it took a tremendous amount of effort to catch him.

After catching him, Zhang Shan struck his head, beating him as if to vent his frustration.

"Told you to run, told you to run, run my foot! I didn't realize you could run so fast; why aren't you running now? Damn it, you bastard, you've exhausted me to death!"

"I'm too hungry, I can't run anymore." The person being held quietly said this.

"Damn, you still dare to talk back? I'll beat you to death!" Zhang Shan was truly about to be angered to death by this person with such a strange train of thought.

He turned him around. The two locked eyes and both froze.

"Zhang Shan?"

"Gu Nan?"

Zhang Shan grabbed the dirty person by the collar and angrily asked him,

"Damn it, was it you? Was it you who betrayed me?"

"It wasn't me, it wasn't me, how could it be me? In the entire team, I had the best relationship with you. How could I betray you?"

"Then tell me, tell me who betrayed me? I don't believe I would have been caught by them if no one had betrayed me!!"

"I don't know who betrayed you. I'm also investigating who it was. When I came to do the mission, I was also sniped. I almost died. Look at me now; do I still look like the radiant person I was back then?"

As he spoke, tears slid down Gu Nan's face.

A man of iron will. Bleeding but not weeping. That was their oath back then.

Zhang Shan felt a wave of powerlessness. He let go of Gu Nan and slumped to the ground.

"Shan, I found out that this matter cannot be separated from the Victor Family."

Zhang Shan didn't speak.

"strongman, check what Gu Nan did after I disappeared?"

Scene after scene flashed through Zhang Shan's mind like a movie.

Gu Nan's actions were no different from what he had told him. In truth, Zhang Shan was a bit afraid in his heart, afraid that his best brother would betray him. But fortunately, his brother had given him his final dignity and had not betrayed him.

"Shan, Shan, Shan," Gu Nan nudged Zhang Shan.

"Why the hell do you keep touching me? I don't have any special hobbies, and I have zero interest in you." Zhang Shan said to Gu Nan with disgust.

"That, that."

"Damn it, you keep saying 'that' this and 'that' that. If you have something to say, just say it quickly! Stop dilly-dallying like a woman." Zhang Shan exploded like a firecracker.

Gu Nan scratched his head helplessly.

"Can you take me to get something to eat? I'm really about to starve to death. I haven't eaten for several days. If I hadn't been, I absolutely wouldn't have gone to steal."

"Can't you have a little bit of pride? You'd steal for a meal?"

A trace of redness appeared on Gu Nan's face, which was obscured by dirt.

Gu Nan devoured the food instantly. Zhang Shan even suspected that this person was the reincarnation of a starving ghost; otherwise, how could he eat so much?

"Are you full? Tell me, what exactly happened?"

Gu Nan wiped his mouth with his sleeve, and Zhang Shan was utterly disgusted by him.

"When you were sent on a mission, I received one at the same time. While I was carrying it out, I was also sniped. Fortunately, I was only injured in the arm. I hid along the way and kept scouting for information in this area. I deliberately made myself look like a beggar just to make it easier to gather news. I've also been looking for you, but I never had any news of you."

"I found out that this mission was issued by the Victor Family. Last time, I accidentally saw that the subordinate who doesn't stay by Victor's side looked a bit like the person who sniped me. I've been following him ever since."

"To avoid being discovered by him, I've been hiding in the shadows observing."

Suddenly, Zhang Shan covered Gu Nan's mouth.

"It's not safe here. Let's go somewhere safe to talk."
