95: Chapter 95 Wang Lei's Background
Bai Muci snapped his eyes open and began reviewing the documents on his desk. Finally, his gaze fixed on a specific name.
"Ye Fei."
Bai Muci called Ye Fei over.
"I need you to handle something for me. This task must succeed; failure is not an option."
A sharp glint flashed in Bai Muci's eyes as he spoke in a low, heavy voice.
Inside a quaint, traditional mansion,
Wang Shuo sat on the sofa with a vacant stare. He had been sitting there for a long time since learning that his grandson had been killed by Zhang Shan.
Although he knew his son was a disappointment—insisting on being someone's butler despite having a family fortune to inherit—it was still devastating. Now, the man had even lost his life.
There weren't many people Wang Shuo cared about in his life, but his son, Wang Lei, was certainly one of them. Wang Lei had been rebellious since he was a child, and Wang Shuo had frequently beaten him growing up. Truthfully, aside from his business, Wang Lei was his everything; it was just that Wang Lei didn't see it that way.
Even though he had constantly scolded and beaten Wang Lei throughout his upbringing, deep down, he loved him dearly. Even when Wang Lei went out to make his own way, Wang Shuo wouldn't let anyone else bully him. In fact, most of the time, he had actually spoiled Wang Lei.
"Only I am allowed to bully my son."
He understood that his actions might have been detrimental to his son, but so what? As Wang Shuo's son, no matter what trouble he caused, Wang Shuo would be there to clean up the mess.
But Wang Shuo remembered clearly that his son was never close to him. Once Wang Lei realized that someone would always bail him out of trouble, he became even more reckless in his pursuits, never considering the consequences of his actions.
It wasn't until he nearly died at the hands of someone he had once bullied that he slowly began to wake up. However, Wang Shuo never expected that Wang Lei would want to repay a debt of gratitude, much less become a butler for that family.
When he heard that Wang Lei was starting to move against Robinson, he didn't feel much of a reaction. He assumed that Wang Lei's temperament had matured over the years and that he wouldn't be so impulsive. But when he learned that his son had been crippled by Robinson, he simply couldn't believe it.
He was still waiting for his son to care for him in his old age and see him off to his final rest.
Yet, despite the repeated hospital examinations and Wang Shuo's own denial, Wang Lei was indeed a broken man.
Being crippled was a massive blow to Wang Shuo, leaving him in a daze. It was only after Wang Lei succumbed to the pain and died that Wang Shuo began to blame himself, filled with regret for not keeping a tighter rein on him.
But the dead cannot return. No matter how much grief or regret Wang Shuo felt, it was futile. The immense shock left him with no desire to manage the company, and he had been in a state of collapse ever since.
Today was the day of Wang Lei's funeral. He was experiencing the profound sorrow of an elder burying a younger person.
The sound of footsteps approached, but Wang Shuo didn't look up. Many people had come to offer their condolences, but he had no interest in acknowledging any of them.
"Elder Wang."
A voice spoke near Wang Shuo's ear. Judging by the sound, the speaker was quite young, but Wang Shuo remained completely unmoved.
As they say, there is no despair like a dead heart. He only wanted to live out his remaining days and then join his son.
"Elder Wang, I have something I'd like to discuss with you," the young, firm voice spoke again, persistent.
But Wang Shuo still didn't react.
Seeing no response from Wang Shuo, the young man spoke once more.
"Elder Wang, what I want to talk to you about concerns Wang Lei. Are you interested in listening?"
Wang Shuo looked up, his clouded eyes resting on the young man. He was so young, just like his son had been—in the prime of his life. But now, his son was gone.
"Who are you? What is your connection to Wang Lei?" Wang Shuo might not have been aware of all his son's dealings, so he assumed the man was a friend. Aside from relatives, only a few of Wang Lei's friends had come to visit today. Since he had never seen this young man before, he instinctively assumed he was one of Wang Lei's friends.
"Elder Wang, I was Wang Lei's best friend," the young man replied.
"Elder Wang, my name is Li Ziwei. I often heard Wang Lei talk about you in the past. You are the person I've wanted to meet most in my life, though it's a pity we're meeting under these circumstances."
Wang Shuo sighed. He felt that this young man, Li Ziwei, was very sensible. Normally, if Wang Lei had brought him home, he would have been happy to chat, but he truly had no heart for idle conversation right now.
"What do you want with me?"
Wang Shuo looked up at his son's funeral portrait, tears welling in his eyes.
"Elder Wang, I'm here today because of Wang Lei, but this isn't the right place to talk. I think we should find a better location to have a proper discussion. This place is really not suitable."
Li Ziwei glanced around.
"What's unsuitable about it? What can't be said in front of my son?"
Hearing this, Wang Shuo immediately grew angry. He wouldn't tolerate anyone suggesting that this place was inappropriate or unlucky.
"Elder Wang, what I want to tell you is the truth behind Wang Lei's death."
"Wasn't my Wang Lei beaten to death by Robinson? What other cause could there be?"
"Elder Wang, are you really going to let the person who killed Wang Lei stay free like this? If they had shown him any mercy, would he have died so wretchedly? It's because they drove him to it. Elder Wang, don't you want to seek revenge?"
Wang Shuo's expression shifted.
"While what you say is true, I am old now. I don't want to get involved in any more violence."
Seeing that Wang Shuo was wavering, Li Ziwei looked at the people nearby and said,
"Elder Wang, let's find another place to talk. This really isn't the right setting."
Wang Shuo nodded.
"Follow me."
He then led Li Ziwei toward the study.
Li Ziwei watched Wang Shuo's back, a faint, unnoticeable smile playing on his lips.
The two of them soon arrived at the study. As soon as they entered, Wang Shuo spoke impatiently.
"Do you have a plan? Tell me, do you have a way to avenge Wang Lei?"
"Elder Wang, don't be anxious. We need to plan this out. After all, the person we're dealing with is no simple individual. We can't just attack him recklessly; we need a thorough plan."
"You just need to know that Robinson is definitely involved in this."
"And who is Robinson?" Wang Shuo asked, looking somewhat confused.
