158: Chapter 158 Su Ye: Ruthless and Silent

Xiao Yong's courtyard was a typical modern farmhouse yard, built right on their own homestead. The yard was massive—Su Ye estimated it to be over a thousand square meters—with a three-story building erected towards the back-middle.

"Godfather, where's Godmother?"

The two had been very close since middle school, so Su Ye and Xiao Yong had each adopted the other's parents as their godparents.

Xiao Yong wiped his wet hair: "They're in the grape field. We're selling grapes today."

He then looked Su Ye up and down, making Su Ye feel uncomfortable: "You bastard, you went to Chengdu for a few days and came back looking all spiffy. If someone else saw you, they probably wouldn't even recognize you."

Su Ye grinned: "Heh, that's just talk. I already had a good foundation; this is just a minor touch-up."

Xiao Yong scoffed: "Minor touch-up? I suspect you've latched onto a rich woman."

At this, Xiao Yong turned to look at Su Ye with a sly grin: "You really picked a fine time to come. You didn't come early or late, but chose this exact moment to show up. Well, that works out—come help me work in a bit."

Su Ye's expression stiffened. He stood at the gate holding his gifts and said: "Is it too late for me to run away now?"

Su Ye had tried it before; after carrying grapes for a day, it took him three or four days to recover. In the sweltering heat, his clothes would get soaked two or three times over—it was absolutely grueling.

Xiao Yong turned and walked towards the building: "What do you think? I already told my mom you were coming today."

Su Ye was only joking. If he hadn't happened to catch them at a busy time, it would be one thing, but since he was here, he had to stay and help. After all, his Godfather, Xiao Long, and Godmother, Luo Cuiping, were truly good to him. Whenever he visited, they saved all the best food for him, and during holidays, they would always give him a big red envelope.

"Bang!"

Just as the two were talking, a heavy thud came from the entrance. A fifteen or sixteen-year-old boy wearing glasses came scrambling in, crying out: "Big Brother! Big Brother, it's bad! Uncle is fighting with someone!"

Su Ye and Xiao Yong were stunned, then confirmed: "Xiao Suanzi, what are you saying? Who is my dad fighting with?"

With tear tracks on his face, Xiao Suanzi sobbed: "The grape merchant suddenly wanted to lower the price today. He said the market isn't good and he can't pay 2.5, only 1.8. He said take it or leave it, and if he doesn't sell, he won't buy them anymore. Uncle wouldn't agree, they started arguing, and then he started fighting with the people the grape merchant brought. I saw Uncle's head get broken open; there was blood everywhere."

Xiao Yong's eyes turned red upon hearing Xiao Suanzi's words. He looked honest and thick-browed, but in reality, he was ruthless and cold-hearted. Back in school, Su Ye and Xiao Yong would dare to charge into a crowd of ten or twenty people, and Xiao Yong was always the one leading the charge.

"Damn it! I'll screw his ancestors!"

Before Su Ye could react, Xiao Yong had already grabbed a hoe from the doorway and ran out. By the time Su Ye chased after him, he could only see the back of his electric scooter.

Su Ye told Xiao Suanzi to watch the house, then quickly drove his own car to catch up.

Xiao Yong's field was only about a kilometer away from his house—not far, but taking the shortcut by electric scooter was faster than driving. By the time Su Ye parked his car and walked in, Xiao Yong had already arrived. Blood was trickling from the corner of his mouth, and he was currently raising his hoe to strike a short, stout man, but he was being held back by four or five people.

Su Ye looked around but didn't see his Godfather or Godmother, only a pool of blood on the ground.

At that moment, the short, stout man had a large gash on his forehead, and he was pointing a stubby finger at Xiao Yong, spewing threats.

"Little Uncle, let go! Damn it, for daring to hit my dad, I'll have him die here today!"

The short, stout man held a towel to his forehead, protected by four or five people, and said: "Come on then! If you have the guts, kill me today! I've already called the police. If I don't send your whole family to jail today, my name isn't Li!"

Su Ye happened to be standing behind the short, stout man and his group. The men protecting the stout man glanced at Su Ye, who was dressed neatly and looked clean, and assuming he wasn't from the production team, they didn't pay him any mind.

Su Ye didn't care about any of that. His Godfather and his brother had both been beaten. If he stood by idly or tried to reason with them, he would be a total idiot, and anyone who knew about it would be disappointed. Besides, as long as he didn't kill anyone, Su Ye could handle the aftermath. Moreover, he had known his Godfather and Godmother for over a decade; he knew what they were like. They were typical rural folk—a bit clever, but generally very honest. They wouldn't resort to violence under normal circumstances; if they had, they must have been pushed to the limit.

With strength in his legs, Su Ye sprinted a few steps, leaped high into the air, and slammed his foot into the short, stout man's waist. The man turned into a human cannonball, flying two or three meters before crashing to the ground.

Without waiting for him to react, Su Ye landed and immediately moved forward to deliver a flurry of kicks. He didn't say a word, just aiming for the waist, back, and head. However, Su Ye knew his limits and didn't go for the kill.

For a moment, everyone present was stunned. They looked at each other, their eyes seeming to say: "Is that your relative? He's hitting so hard, aren't you going to stop him?" "I thought he was your relative? I don't know him."

Finally, Xiao Yong shouted: "Little Su, well done! You wait, Brother is coming right now!"

Only then did Xiao Yong's Little Uncle recognize Su Ye. He slapped his thigh and said: "Isn't this my sister's godson?"

He then turned to the people behind him and said: "What are you standing there for? Go stop him! Someone's going to die!" The short, stout man's subordinates were also preparing to step forward and pull Su Ye away.

"Bang!"

Su Ye kicked the short, stout man directly in the mouth. Two or three yellowed teeth, mixed with blood, sprayed out. With Su Ye slightly raising his head, a dangerous glint seemingly flashing in his eyes, no one present dared to approach for a moment.

Seeing that he had intimidated everyone, Su Ye slowly crouched down to look at the short, stout man, who was now semi-conscious and covered in blood. He grabbed him by the collar, stood up, and dragged him to the side, dangling his massive, fat head over the drainage ditch at the edge of the field.

After doing all this, Su Ye finally looked at Xiao Yong's Little Uncle and asked: "Little Uncle, what exactly is going on here? Please, give me a brief explanation. Also, where are my Godfather and Godmother? I don't see them."

Upon hearing Su Ye's words, Xiao Yong's Little Uncle first looked at the short, stout man, whose chest was still heaving, then swallowed hard and said: "It's actually just a matter of the grape price. At the time, your Godfather was trying to talk to him nicely, but this guy has a foul mouth; half of every sentence was a curse. Besides, he was in the wrong to begin with, yet he still threatened your Godfather. Later, your Godmother got anxious and came up to argue back. When he couldn't out-curse your Godmother, he struck first, and then he started fighting with your Godfather."
