34: Chapter 34 Three Sticks to Lull You to Sleep
"Snap!"
Just as Yan Zheng thought he was about to die a glorious death, a large hand reached out from the darkness and clamped onto his ankle like an iron pincer.
The veins on Su Ye's right hand bulged like coiled dragons, and he let out a low growl from his throat. He forcibly pulled back Yan Zheng's hundred-plus-pound body, slamming him heavily onto the concrete floor and kicking up a cloud of dust.
Seeing Su Ye dressed in a black short-sleeved shirt and black trousers, Yu Chenglong and Monkey were shocked. Where did such a big living person come from?
In an instant, Yu Chenglong couldn't care about anything else and roared:
"Monkey, go! If we don't take them out today, we are the ones who will die."
After speaking, he pulled a cold-glinting dagger from his waist and rushed toward Su Ye. Monkey also picked up a piece of concrete from the ground and charged, howling, though he didn't realize that while Yu Chenglong seemed to be charging fast, he actually had shorter legs and was overtaken by him in just two steps.
Seeing Monkey charging over, a disdainful smile curled on the corner of Su Ye's mouth. Did he really think his unlimited grappling training at Edir Gym was for nothing? He had to know that his coach was a veteran from the Yunnan Provincial Armed Police Third Detachment.
"You must know that there is no underworld in Yunnan, only the Armed Police Third Detachment. Three strikes to shatter the soul of Northern Myanmar; comrade, I am a citizen of Xia."
Su Ye was a little confused when the coach said this, but later he understood everything. It wasn't that others could take three strikes, but that he could throw three strikes in one second—and no one could withstand those three strikes.
"Whoosh!"
A black-handled telescoping baton appeared in his right hand from his waist. With a casual wave, an eighty-centimeter-long silvery-white steel baton popped out from the handle.
Ignoring Yan Zheng, who was coughing and curling up on the ground due to the heavy fall, Su Ye took a long stride, walked straight to meet Monkey, suddenly leaned over, and swung the long baton fiercely like a silver dragon.
"Crack!"
A crisp sound rang out in the pitch-black, quiet night sky.
Monkey's wail hadn't even left his throat.
"Bang!"
The silver dragon, carrying faint afterimages, slammed into his mouth, and instantly, his mouthful of yellow teeth was scattered.
Monkey's legs went soft, and he knelt directly on the ground. Feeling his head buzzing, he tried to look up to see what was happening, but he only saw a flash of silver light before his eyes, felt a pain in his crown, and then fell into an infant-like sleep.
Su Ye looked up and saw that Yu Chenglong had disappeared at some point; he could only hear the sound of hurried footsteps going downstairs.
Peering downward, Su Ye just happened to see Yu Chenglong's short, stocky figure emerging from downstairs.
"Damn, this is the boss? He just ran away?"
Su Ye didn't dawdle. He grabbed the piece of concrete Monkey had been holding and aimed with his left thumb at Yu Chenglong's retreating back.
"Go, concrete block!"
A beautiful arc appeared in the night, and with a "Bang!" it hit Yu Chenglong right on the back of his reflective head. Yu Chenglong didn't even moan before collapsing directly.
Su Ye couldn't help but shrink his neck, thinking:
"I didn't kill him with one rock, did I?"
But then he immediately thought that he was punishing evil and promoting good, acting bravely for a just cause, and helping the police uncle catch a criminal—what was he afraid of? The back he had just bent straightened up again.
Yan Zheng struggled to stand up at this moment. He first looked at Monkey, who was sleeping like a baby at his feet with his lower right leg bent and his left cheek swollen high, and the corner of his mouth twitched.
He staggered to Su Ye's side and immediately saw Yu Chenglong lying on the ground face down. A constipated expression appeared on his face; he had been a police officer for decades, and he didn't expect that even now as a bureau chief, he would still capsize in the gutter.
Taking a deep breath to calm his mood, Yan Zheng looked at his savior, but the next second he was stunned.
"It's you?"
Su Ye turned his head to look at Yan Zheng, grinned, revealing a mouthful of big white teeth, and said:
"Long time no see, Bureau Chief Yan."
Yan Zheng felt as if he was hallucinating. How could Su Ye, a person who could summon over a dozen lawyers with one phone call, appear in this unfinished building? How could he risk his life to save him, and with such good fighting skills? It was strange no matter how he thought about it.
Seeing Yan Zheng start to brainstorm, Su Ye immediately stated the reason he had already prepared.
"I was just hungry at night."
"You came to an unfinished building to find food because you were hungry?"
Su Ye looked at Yan Zheng with dissatisfaction:
"Bureau Chief Yan, I haven't finished speaking yet. Plus, I'm your savior, can you show me some respect!"
Yan Zheng felt that his tone just now sounded like he was interrogating a criminal, so he quickly said:
"Sorry, sorry, please continue."
Su Ye took a deep breath and continued:
"There's a famous internet-famous shop near Jinxing Hotel. I just finished eating there and was about to drive away when I heard gunshots from the alley. I was curious, went to take a look, and happened to see you chasing these two people here. So I took a shortcut and arrived one step ahead. It's a good thing I arrived in time, otherwise, tsk tsk tsk."
Although Yan Zheng was a little suspicious about how it could be such a coincidence, there was nothing suspicious about what Su Ye said. Most streets had surveillance cameras, and it could be checked. By rights, he should investigate, but Yan Zheng didn't know what was going on; his heart was filled with gratitude toward Su Ye, and subconsciously he didn't want to investigate these matters.
Just then, the light of more than a dozen flashlights cut through the night sky from afar, accompanied by the barking of police dogs. Deputy Bureau Chief Chang Le took the lead and ran toward the unfinished building.
"Old Yan, Old Yan, are you okay!"
Hearing Deputy Bureau Chief Chang Le's voice, Yan Zheng quickly said:
"Old Chang, I'm here. I'm fine. The one down there is Yu Chenglong. Check his condition first."
Chang Le checked Yu Chenglong; fortunately, he was still breathing, so he quickly had someone take him to the hospital for emergency treatment. After all, as the boss of this drug trafficking ring, there was a lot to dig into behind him—for example, how they managed to come from the Yunnan border to Chengdu safely and securely. This was a very unusual matter.
Chang Le was also surprised when he saw Su Ye, but under Su Ye's explanation and Yan Zheng's "testimony," he didn't dig deeper. However, Su Ye definitely had to go back to the police station to record a statement.
After everything was handled, the sky was already showing the white belly of dawn. Su Ye stood at the entrance of the police station, yawning, waiting for Yan Zheng.
Before long, Yan Zheng walked out of the police station, limping, having changed into casual clothes.
"Let's go, Little Su. I'll take you to breakfast first. There's a Chongqing noodle shop at the entrance of the Wuhou Police Branch that makes them very well. It's truly 'basat' (delicious)."
"Alright."
Su Ye looked at the green "90" above Yan Zheng's head and a smile curled on the corner of his mouth.
