51: Chapter 51 I'll Give You Two Choices

Su Ye manipulated his game character, found a spot to lie down, and looked up in astonishment. "Why are you here?"

Standing to the side, Wang Wei saw that Marketing Manager Chen Cong knew the new boss, Chairman Su, and hurriedly explained, "Chairman Su, Marketing Manager Chen Cong is here to handle his onboarding today."

Su Ye smiled, his expression radiant like the brilliant sun. "General Manager Wang, please take the coffee from Marketing Manager Chen Cong first."

Wang Wei thought Su Ye wanted to catch up with Marketing Manager Chen Cong, so he quickly took the coffee, thinking to himself: I was planning to kick Marketing Manager Chen Cong out if General Manager Duan fell, but I didn't expect Chairman Su to actually know him. It seems I need to be careful now.

After watching Wang Wei take the coffee, Su Ye finally said to Marketing Manager Chen Cong, "Alright, you can go out now."

Marketing Manager Chen Cong was so angry his face turned ashen, his fists clenched tight. He longed to punch Su Ye's handsome face, and said viciously, "Su Ye, don't be arrogant. The tides turn every thirty years; do not bully a young man because he is poor!"

Unbothered, Su Ye picked up his phone and said, "And then what? Do not bully a middle-aged man because he is poor? Do not bully an old man because he is poor? Is that my miserable life?"

"Besides, at your age, you aren't exactly a youth anymore."

"Good boy, hurry up and get out. If you don't leave, I'm going to call security."

Marketing Manager Chen Cong was trembling all over with rage, but thinking of the pathetic sight of being carried out by security, he could only drop a harsh threat before hurriedly closing the door and running away, as if a second's delay would cause a burly security guard to teleport right next to him. "You just wait for me!"

By now, Wang Wei could see that Chairman Su and Marketing Manager Chen Cong were definitely not friends and were likely at odds, so he hurriedly explained, "Chairman Su, this Marketing Manager Chen Cong is General Manager Duan's nephew. He came for an interview a couple of days ago and was supposed to handle his onboarding today."

Su Ye waved his hand indifferently. General Manager Duan? After today, I'll either call him Little Duan or just 'that guy'.

"Knock, knock, knock." Half an hour later, a knock sounded at the door. Wang Wei went up and opened it. A short, fat man was panting heavily, smelling strongly of alcohol. Beads of sweat flowed down his shiny forehead like grease. His suit was wrinkled everywhere, and his tie was undone. Seeing the door open, he hurriedly bowed, his face full of panic and unease.

"Chairman Su, I am the General Manager of Future Drone, General Manager Duan. I've kept you waiting."

"Please forgive me, Chairman Su."

Su Ye picked up the coffee on the table and took a sip, ignoring General Manager Duan entirely. Instead, he continued to focus intently on manipulating the game character on his phone. The dull sound of an AK12 echoed in the office. Seeing that Su Ye ignored him, Zhang Hua and General Manager Fang Zheng also went back to handling their own business on their phones, with no intention of speaking at all.

Even though the office air conditioning was on, General Manager Duan felt like he was in an ice cellar. He didn't know how long he had been bowing; every second felt like a year. His nearly fifty-year-old lower back, having been 'serviced' by a senior technician last night, felt even more exhausted. General Manager Duan could even hear his lumbar spine creaking.

A few minutes later, Su Ye looked at his game character, which had been killed by a magical combo of a crocodile and an Asala machine gunner, his hands trembling. Is this normal? Is this supposed to happen? I'm wearing Tier 5 gear and carrying a fully modified AK12, and I actually got killed by an AI? Damn developers, is this what you call 'no shadow nerfs'?

"Bang!" Su Ye threw his phone onto the solid wood desk, and General Manager Duan's fat body couldn't help but tremble.

Su Ye picked up the coffee and took a sip. Hey, I have to say, the coffee Marketing Manager Chen Cong bought actually tastes surprisingly good.

"I don't want to waste words with you. Two choices. First, don't you like drinking with distributors? Go down and settle in; start over as a sales team leader. The second choice is that you can resign voluntarily."

The office atmosphere was oppressive. General Manager Duan's heart was filled with regret, unwillingness, and resentment—various emotions wrapping around him like giant hands reaching out from the abyss.

After a long while, Su Ye grew a bit impatient, and General Manager Duan finally said, as if resigning himself to his fate, "Chairman Su, I choose to be demoted to the grassroots level as a sales team leader."

Su Ye nodded and waved his hand.

"Go."

"Yes."

General Manager Duan carefully closed the door. He held his waist as he stood up, looked at the 'General Manager's Office' plaque for a long time, sighed deeply, and turned to leave.

Did he want to be demoted? Of course not. Sales team leader, sales manager, sales director, vice president, general manager—Su Ye had basically stripped him of everything. But if not here, where else could he go? He had been at Future Technology for nearly ten years. Now, with the economy in a slump and at his age of nearly fifty, General Manager Duan didn't have the confidence to say he could find another office job outside of here.

At least Su Ye didn't make him a salesperson. General Manager Duan asked himself: relying on his many years of connections, even if he couldn't sit back in the position of general manager, he could still manage to produce some monthly performance results and retire in the position of sales team leader. If he went out, he would really have nothing left.

"Alright, let Wang Wei act as the general manager of Future Drone for now. I hope nothing goes wrong. Understand?"

Although Wang Wei had expected it, having this position actually fall to him still made him overjoyed. He hurriedly bowed slightly and promised, "Rest assured, Chairman Su, I will definitely put in 1,000% effort to stabilize the company and lead the company to leap into the future."

Su Ye stood up, finished the coffee in his hand in one gulp, and tossed it into the trash can.

"I'm not a person who likes to listen; I like to watch. What you have done, what you haven't done, and how you did it—it's all in my eyes. Talking a good game is not as good as doing a good job. I hope you remember General Manager Duan's lesson."

Halfway to the door, Su Ye turned his head and said to General Manager Fang Zheng, "Oh, right, General Manager Fang Zheng, pass this down: from now on, don't go around bowing at every turn. We aren't a Japanese company; it's an eyesore."

General Manager Fang Zheng nodded and said, "Rest assured, Chairman Su, I will go back and immediately issue a notice to coordinate company etiquette."

From beginning to end, Zhang Hua and General Manager Fang Zheng had not interjected a single word or expressed any dissatisfaction regarding Su Ye's decision. This made Su Ye very satisfied; both men knew their place.

If Zhang Hua and General Manager Fang Zheng had spoken up about Su Ye's decision today, even just a single word, Su Ye would have considered replacing them both. He was the master of this company. If he made a mistake in the general direction that would harm the company's interests, and both men argued with him based on reason, Su Ye would be very happy. But the situation today was clearly a very severe violation of company rules and regulations.

If both men were willing to argue with Su Ye even over this, then Su Ye could only conclude that their ambitions had grown a bit too much and they didn't take him seriously because he was young. Why would he keep such people around?
