43: Chapter 43 The Last Straight Man in Chengdu

Even though it was already mid-July, the heat in Chengdu remained intense, with temperatures even climbing to forty degrees Celsius today.

At six in the evening, Future Technology Group was still bustling with activity. Not to mention that they rarely left work on time as it was, with the new boss visiting today, no one was going to leave on time.

After Su Ye finished the takeout stir-fry that Gu Qingyan had ordered, he chatted with Zhang Hua and the others, then intended to take Gu Qingyan and leave. Who would have thought that Silly Gu would actually develop a rebellious streak, declaring firmly:

"Su Ye, I am your assistant now. As your assistant, it is only natural for me to help you resolve your worries, so I have decided to stay and help you review documents with Lawyer Shi and the others tonight."

Looking at Gu Qingyan's earnest little face, Su Ye could only rub his nose sheepishly before turning and walking into the elevator.

Seeing the elevator doors slowly closing, Gu Qingyan let out a long sigh and patted her prominent chest. She felt a slight urge to leave work, but she was also afraid of running into Su Ye if she went down. Recalling her own righteous words from just moments ago, Gu Qingyan could only return to the conference room with a mournful little face.

Was it that Gu Qingyan didn't want to leave work? No, it was that Silly Gu was afraid of being eaten whole by Su Ye tonight. After all, they were already more than friends but not quite lovers, and having been hit by Su Ye's powerful impact today, Silly Gu felt that if Su Ye wanted to do anything tonight, she had absolutely no will to resist.

Driving his Mercedes-Benz V8, Su Ye moved forward and stopped repeatedly in the evening rush hour traffic. Looking at the afterglow of the setting sun, listening to the incessant blaring of horns, and watching the flow of cars like thousands of troops crossing a single-plank bridge, Su Ye felt he had been reckless. Wouldn't it have been better to just play games in his chairman's office? Why did he have to rush home during rush hour?

An hour later, thanks to his superb driving skills weaving left and right, Su Ye finally parked his car steadily in a parking space and let out a long breath while leaning back against the ergonomic seat.

Feeling that it was still early, Su Ye decided to go to Edir Gym for a workout. After all, he had been a bit slack these past two days. Having not moved his body much, Su Ye felt that his entire body, deep down to the bone marrow, was sending out signals craving intense exercise.

After going home to change into sportswear, Su Ye keenly sensed something was off the moment he entered Edir Gym, because several burly men in the gym were ostensibly working out seriously, but their peripheral vision was all directed toward one spot.

Su Ye followed everyone's gaze toward the treadmills and saw a familiar back running on one. Her beautiful hair was tied into a ponytail, and her figure, which was prone to causing trouble, looked exceptionally alluring wrapped in fitness gear. Her perfect hip curves and a pair of long, dancing legs were tightly bound by yoga pants.

Su Ye quietly walked to the side and took a look from afar, his heart filled with astonishment:

Jiang Bai? Why would she be here?

After Li Yi's guidance, Su Ye's mindset had undergone a earth-shaking change; he did not deliberately avoid her, nor did he take the initiative to go up and say hello.

Su Ye went about his business, running over to the strength training area to start some warm-up exercises.

Just as he finished his warm-up, a deep voice rang out from behind Su Ye:

"Ye-zi?"

Su Ye turned his head and a smile appeared on his face:

"Old Wan."

Wan Zhenguo walked forward and patted Su Ye on the arm, saying:

"Good man, it seems you haven't been resting these past few days either, keeping in such good shape."

Su Ye shrugged with his hands out:

"I'm not like some people who have a beautiful wife at home and a thoughtful little darling to take on trips."

Hearing Su Ye's sarcastic remark, Wan Zhenguo grinned wide, his head held high. That look clearly said, 'That's right, I am this happy, so what?'

Su Ye laughed:

"Well played, Old Wan. I'm being sarcastic, did you think I was complimenting you?"

Wan Zhenguo chuckled:

"Because everything you said is a fact."

Su Ye was speechless and could only look at Wan Zhenguo with an expressionless face.

Wan Zhenguo quickly said:

"Alright, alright, haven't seen you in a week. Let's go, get on the ring and let me see if you've regressed lately."

"Speaking of which, your standards are a bit high. It's not like there aren't beautiful young ladies at our Edir, we even have a few young married women, but you just don't take a fancy to any of them."

"What are you talking about? I'm just afraid they're after my body."

"Hahahaha! You shameless kid."

He casually draped his arm over Su Ye's shoulder and, without caring whether Su Ye was willing or not, headed toward the ring. Su Ye, half-pushed and half-yielding, went along with it, as it had indeed been a while since he had trained.

Wan Zhenguo's hearty laughter drew many people to look over. After seeing it was Wan Zhenguo and Su Ye, most people put down the equipment in their hands and walked toward the ring in groups of three or five.

"Hey, do you think Ye-zi can beat Coach Wan today?"

"You're dreaming. Ye-zi has only been learning for a month or so; even a genius would need two years of study."

"Hey, don't say that. You really shouldn't say that. This Su Ye is a bit of a freak; he could spar with Coach Wan for half a day after just one month."

"Bullshit, that's Coach Wan going easy on him, can't you tell?"

"Tsk, you're just jealous. Even if Coach Wan went easy on you, you'd only last three moves. If you lasted one more, Coach Wan would be lying on the ground with you, fearing you'd try to scam him for medical expenses."

Jiang Bai, who was walking briskly, heard the conversation and hurriedly stopped the treadmill, her face full of astonishment:

Su Ye? Is it the same last straight-laced man in Chengdu that I know?

Curiosity drove her to walk toward the ring as well.

On the ring, the two of them, having already put on protective gear, stood on opposite sides.

Su Ye said with some excitement:

"Old Wan, what are the rules today?"

Wan Zhenguo looked at the crowd gathering around and said:

"Rules? The rule today is that there are no rules. Free combat."

Hearing this, Su Ye became even more excited. His eyes seemed to be glowing, and his whole body was trembling slightly. This wasn't fear; it was his body's hormones secreting rapidly under Su Ye's desire to fight.

Seeing Su Ye like this, Wan Zhenguo suddenly remembered something. Feeling a faint pain in his crotch, his expression changed and he hurriedly added:

"Of course, weak points cannot be struck."

Upon hearing this, the light in Su Ye's eyes seemed to dim significantly. He then said listlessly:

"Fine, fine, fine. This isn't realistic at all. In real combat, who has parts that can't be hit?"

Wan Zhenguo's face darkened. The logic was sound, but you couldn't just keep attacking the lower regions; he still wanted to use them for a few more years.

"Alright, enough chatter. Let's start."

The two sides first stood in the center of the ring, and their fists touched lightly to signal the start of the match.

Jiang Bai had already reached the edge of the ring. Seeing the familiar figure on the ring, she was a bit stunned. She didn't expect this Su Ye to really be the big straight-laced man she knew.

In an instant, she figured it out. It made sense; Su Ye lived so close, and he was quite good at fighting in the bar before, so it was normal for him to be a regular at a fitness club.

Suddenly, Jiang Bai exclaimed, her delicate hand covering her thin lips, because she saw Wan Zhenguo's right hand suddenly strike Su Ye's cheek with lightning speed.
