33: Chapter 33 Executing me a hundred times would be enough.

"Run!" Before Yan Zheng even had time to get out of the car, he heard a low, hoarse roar in his ear, sounding like a beast in a desperate situation finding a glimmer of hope.

Years of frontline experience allowed Yan Zheng to push open the passenger door and lunge out, his service pistol instinctively appearing in his hand as he fired in the direction the sound came from.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Indigo flames blossomed from the muzzle of the Type 92 pistol, and 9mm bullets spun as they shot forward. Unfortunately, he was still a fraction of a second too slow; two figures, one tall and one short, had just ducked around the corner, and the bullets struck the bricks, sending red sparks flying.

"Damn, there's a cop here!" a hoarse, deep voice shouted, followed by a thick hand clutching a pistol extending from around the corner.

"Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!" Four shots hit the sedan, pinning Yan Zheng down, followed by the sound of frantic footsteps fading into the distance.

Yan Zheng cautiously raised his head, took a quick look, and gave chase in the direction of the footsteps.

At the same time, a dark red Mercedes-Benz not far away started up, its headlights illuminating the road ahead. The roar of a V8 engine echoed as it drove several hundred meters down the street before cutting its engine and stopping. A black figure quickly got out of the car and ran toward a nearby alley.

Fortunately, the Jinxing Hotel was some distance from Xinma Road; even running fast, it would take ten to twenty minutes. Given Su Ye's current physical condition and having gained a lead by driving, he arrived at the abandoned building before Yan Zheng and the drug dealers.

Su Ye touched the three-section staff at his waist, circled around, and ran up to the third floor from the right side of the abandoned building, hiding behind the load-bearing pillar to the right of the gap where Yan Zheng would eventually fall.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" No more than two minutes after he arrived, another round of gunfire rang out downstairs, followed by a voice that sounded slightly distorted due to panic.

Su Ye poked his head out slightly to look down. With the help of the moonlight, he saw a tall, thin, sharp-featured youth anxiously speaking to a short, stocky, middle-aged man hiding behind a pillar next to him: "Brother Long, what do we do? We're out of ammo."

Brother Long poked his head out slightly and vaguely saw a figure relying on the surrounding cover to rapidly approach their position. His nostrils flared slightly, and heavy, labored breathing escaped his lips. "What do we do? Damn it, this cop is tailing us so relentlessly. I just checked, there should only be one person. Let's just finish him off right here."

Upon hearing Brother Long's words, the tall, thin youth felt his legs go weak. Killing a police officer was a capital offense; if they dared to kill a cop, they might not be able to escape even if they fled abroad.

Brother Long clearly knew what the tall, thin youth was thinking. He grabbed his floral shirt and stared at him viciously with bloodshot eyes: "Then tell me, what do we do? Huh! Do we wait for him to come over and let us be captured without a fight? Huh!!! Don't you know what you've done? With this much narcotics, we will definitely be executed. Instead of waiting to die, we might as well fight for our lives!"

The tall, thin youth stared blankly at Brother Long, completely ignoring the foul-smelling saliva sprayed all over his face. Brother Long was right; death was inevitable either way, so they might as well fight. "Brother Long, tell me what to do!"

Brother Long calmed his breathing slightly and patted the tall, thin man's shoulder, saying: "Monkey, don't worry. Brother Long will definitely get you out alive, and then we'll be rich together."

"Come on, let's go up. It's too exposed down here."

With that, the two hurried to bend over and run upstairs like two giant black rats. Su Ye quickly pulled his head back, suppressed his breathing, and hid behind the load-bearing pillar.

Less than two seconds later, two sets of footsteps echoed in Su Ye's ears, only stopping when they were just a few meters away. At the same time, a heavy set of footsteps also sounded downstairs.

Brother Long looked around and quickly instructed: "Monkey, hide behind this pillar in a moment. I'll throw this wooden plank down to create the illusion that I pushed you off the building. Then I'll lure the cop over. After all, I'm the boss, and if this cop wants to complete his mission, he'd prefer to capture me alive. As soon as he gets close, you shove him off. Below is all concrete and steel rebar; even if it doesn't kill him, he'll be severely injured."

Monkey nodded heavily. Hearing the footsteps getting very close, Brother Long quickly pushed Monkey behind the load-bearing pillar and kicked a large wooden plank next to him down.

The thick, meter-long wooden plank hit the concrete floor with a loud "Bang!", and without careful inspection, it sounded no different from a person falling.

Brother Long's timing was perfect; just at that moment, Yan Zheng had reached the third floor and couldn't possibly go down to check the situation.

Seeing Yan Zheng appear, Brother Long raised his hands, took two steps back, and said: "Officer, let's make a deal. You let me go, and I'll give you ten million. How about that? I've already taken care of my brother; you can use his corpse to fulfill your duty later. You'll have the money, and you'll have the credit. Why not do it?"

Yan Zheng didn't answer immediately but vigilantly scanned the surroundings with his peripheral vision. "Yu Chenglong, you don't need to tempt me. Standing trial before the people is your only destination. If I held your money in my hands, I'd be afraid of having nightmares at night."

Yu Chenglong continued to step back, his heels already on the edge. Yan Zheng couldn't help but take two steps forward and shouted: "Yu Chenglong, don't be a fool. You know that if you cooperate with us and tell us about the people behind you, there's a high chance you'll be sentenced to life imprisonment. If you die here, you're really dead."

Yu Chenglong showed no reaction to Yan Zheng's words and said loudly: "Officer, I'm not a three-year-old child, don't lie to me. I'm more familiar with the law than you are; anything over fifty grams is punishable by death. I have a full twenty kilograms—shooting me a hundred times would still be enough. You just want to know about the company behind me, right? You won't get that chance."

Having said that, Yu Chenglong turned around, preparing to jump. Although Yan Zheng felt something was wrong, his instinctive reaction as a police officer was to rush toward Yu Chenglong, wanting to save him.

Just as Yan Zheng passed a load-bearing pillar, a black shadow suddenly darted out from the left and slammed straight into him.

Alarm bells rang in Yan Zheng's mind, and his face turned slightly pale. He had just come up from below; how could he not know what the situation was down there? It was all steel rebar and concrete. If he were shoved off, could he survive? There were protruding bars and chunks of debris everywhere.

But at this moment, Yan Zheng's body didn't allow him to make any significant evasive maneuvers. Countless faces flashed before his eyes—his former partners, his wife, and his child.

"Bang!" Yan Zheng felt a massive force slam into his waist, and his entire body went flying. He couldn't help but close his eyes. From the first day he became a police officer, he had been prepared to sacrifice himself, but it was just a pity that his daughter was only five years old...
