138: Before killing the gods, let's watch a human comedy

Meanwhile, in the dining hall of the Natural Selection.

The atmosphere was in stark contrast to the gloomy skies outside.

The long dining table was laden with a dazzling array of culinary masterpieces, each a work of art.

“Dancing Golden Roasted Chicken”: Consuming it slightly boosts physical coordination and reaction speed for one hour.

“Starlight Truffle Emerald Soup”: The rich umami of mushrooms blended with the sweet freshness of vegetables. It rapidly restores mental energy and clears negative physical statuses.

“Dragon’s Tear Strawberry Jelly”: Made from the juice of the extremely rare “Dragon’s Tear Grass,” it is springy and smooth. It is said to allow one to perceive energy flows normally undetectable for a short period.

Gu Nianqiu had changed into a black and white Gothic Lolita dress today. Layers of lace trim swayed gently with her movements, making her look like a little duchess, innocent of the world, who had stepped out of a medieval castle.

She was looking at the two people who were feasting with anticipation, her large eyes sparkling with a desire for praise.

“Delicious.”

Lin Mo’s words were concise, yet his actions conveyed the highest praise. The crispy golden roasted chicken leg had already been completely devoured by him.

“Hehe!”

Gu Nianqiu immediately smiled, her eyes curving like a little squirrel who had found a pinecone.

Only Gu Zhixia remained silent.

She mechanically put food into her mouth.

Her delicate and pretty face, which always carried a hint of arrogance, was now shrouded in an impenetrable frost.

Even the top-tier dishes, capable of granting various buff effects, tasted like chewing wax in her mouth.

The God’s Game… the circus being watched… Lan Yue’s cold and cruel words were like venom-tipped ice shards, repeatedly piercing her heart.

Everything she was proud of, the power she gained by risking her life, all her struggles and glory… in the end, were they all just to entertain those high and mighty “Gods”?

Bang!

The silver knife and fork in her hand were slammed onto the plate, letting out a jarring, sharp clang.

“I refuse to accept this!”

Her voice was squeezed out, word by word, from between her teeth, carrying an uncontrollable anger and humiliation that threatened to burn her soul to ashes.

“Why?! Why should our fates be manipulated at will by those so-called ‘Gods’ as if it were a game?!”

“We are humans! Not playthings for others to watch!”

The girl’s unyielding pride was completely shattered at this moment, only to transform into the purest rage, burning fiercely amidst the ruins.

The atmosphere in the dining hall instantly became heavy.

Gu Nianqiu was also startled by her sister’s sudden outburst. She looked at her timidly, unsure how to comfort her.

Lin Mo put down his cutlery.

He didn’t preach any grandreason, but simply looked calmly at Gu Zhixia’s phoenix eyes, which were burning with fury.

“So,”

His voice was very soft, yet it was like a stone dropped into a rippling lake, instantly calming all the turmoil.

“We must jump out.”

Gu Zhixia suddenly looked up, staring intently at him.

“The chessboard is there, the rules are against us, and the opponents are the ones who made the rules.”

Lin Mo’s gaze was as profound as the star-filled sky outside the window.

“Complaints and anger change nothing.”

“They only make the ‘audience’ in the stands find the show more interesting.”

He spoke slowly and deliberately, his words cold and clear.

“The only thing we can do…”

“Is to use the pieces They bestowed upon us…”

“To overturn Their chessboard.”

There was no hint of passion in Lin Mo’s voice, only an extreme, undeniable cold resolve.

“We will reclaim our own destinies, slice by slice, from the hands of those so-called ‘Gods’.”

Gu Zhixia’s breathing hitched slightly.

She looked at Lin Mo’s calm, unruffled eyes, and the raging inferno in her heart seemed to find its only outlet, gradually settling, transforming into an even harder, sharper… killing intent.

That’s right.

If she couldn’t accept it, then she would change it.

If she refused to be a pawn, then she would become… a Godslayer!

“Alright, alright, Sister, Brother Mo, don’t be so serious!”

Seeing the atmosphere ease, Gu Nianqiu immediately scooted closer, like a warm kitten, rubbing her head against Gu Zhixia’s arm.

“No matter what the future holds, at least for now, the three of us are still together! And we can still eat my delicious roasted chicken!”

She held up the small fork in her hand, on which a translucent piece of Dragon’s Tear Jelly was impaled, and offered it to Gu Zhixia’s mouth.

“Sister, try this! It’s sweet! It’ll make you feel better!”

Looking at her sister’s innocent and pure smiling face, the last trace of gloom in Gu Zhixia’s heart also vanished.

She opened her mouth and ate the jelly.

The sweet and cool taste instantly slid down her throat, as if truly dispelling much of the irritation in her heart.

She glanced at Lin Mo, who was quietly watching them, with a hint of tenderness in his eyes that she had never seen before.

This was her whole world.

To protect this warmth, let alone the Leviathan.

Even if it was a God, she would kill it for them!

The meal ended in a strange atmosphere.

“Let’s go, relax a bit.”

Lin Mo stood up, breaking the silence.

“At a time like this, you still have the mood to relax?” Gu Zhixia grumbled, but her body honestly followed him.

“Precisely because it’s a time like this, it’s even more necessary.”

Lin Mo led them to the scenic entertainment lounge and, from the vast film library, found an old Earth comedy film.

“Before heading to hell, one must leave a little laughter in the human world.”

“A string that’s always taut will break.”

The giant holographic screen lit up, and the exaggerated plot and comical actors soon had Gu Nianqiu laughing uncontrollably.

Even Gu Zhixia, who was usually serious, couldn’t help but let her lips curve slightly.

Outside the window, was the dead, cold universe, and the possibly existing, indifferent “Divine Gazes.”

Inside the window, was the warm light, and the clear laughter of two girls being amused.

This scene quietly softened a corner of Lin Mo’s heart, which had become cold and hard due to the cruel truth.

This laughter was their battle flag.

The movie ended, and night had fallen deep.

They each returned to their rooms to rest.

However, Lin Mo lay in bed, but did not fall asleep.

He closed his eyes, but his consciousness spread out like an invisible tide, establishing the deepest spiritual connection with every corner of the entire Natural Selection.

The surging energy of the antimatter core made his senses sharper than ever before.

The entire ship was an extension of his body.

He could “hear” the steady heartbeat of the energy core.

He could “feel” the gentle flow of energy in the pipelines.

He could “touch” the lonely breath of every inch of armor in the cold universe.

Everything was calm as usual.

But just then.

An extremely faint, discordant “noise” suddenly appeared in his vast sensory network.

It wasn’t an alarm.

Nor was it an energy fluctuation.

It was a… wriggling sensation.

As if an invisible, sticky insect was clinging to the hull of the Natural Selection.

At a frequency completely undetectable by conventional means, it was silently secreting some corrosive acid, attempting to drill a tiny hole in his “skin”!

Lin Mo’s eyes suddenly snapped open!

His dark pupils were instantly filled with the bone-chilling coldness of a frozen world!

The enemy had arrived!

And, it had stealthily latched onto his throat, in a ghost-like manner he had never anticipated!
