161: Break into the cosmic graveyard! I have the final say on the rules here!
Safe Harbor—a name that conjured a sense of security.
However, the scene it presented was the antithesis of “safety,” filled with a brutal, post-apocalyptic desolation.
The Natural Selection shut down its main engines at a safe distance, far enough from that cosmic graveyard.
It hung silently in the darkness, like a colossal beast lurking in the abyss.
The biopower field emanating from the “World Tree” core perfectly disguised it as a massive, inconspicuous cosmic meteorite.
No conventional radar scan could detect the terrifying, star-destroying power concealed beneath this “meteorite.”
“This place is practically a city built from trash.”
On the Bridge, Gu Zhixia frowned slightly as she looked at the holographic screen, where the constantly magnified space station named “Safe Harbor” was displayed.
Its structure was filled with a chaotic, wild beauty.
The derelict hull of a heavy cruiser with a broken keel formed the main axis of the space station.
Scattered upon it, like metallic tumors, were haphazardly welded and riveted wreckage from different civilizations, various types of spacecraft, residential modules, and even gigantic cargo containers.
Countless thick pipes and cables, like exposed blood vessels and nerves of a giant beast, coiled aimlessly across the space station’s surface, occasionally flashing with dangerous electrical sparks.
Some signs, flickering with cheap neon lights, hung on the rusty bulkheads, adding a touch of cyberpunk decadence and grotesqueness to this steel jungle.
Innumerable small Scavenger ships and modified shuttles, like flies circling carrion, moved in and out of the space station’s numerous, crude docking berths in utter chaos.
“According to the scan, the space station has a resident population of about three thousand, with an extremely complex composition, a mix of interstellar pirates, wanted criminals, bankrupt mercenaries, and Scavengers,” Lin Mo said calmly, bringing up the base’s basic information.
“The management model here is the law of the jungle, jointly established by several of the largest Scavenger groups.”
“Whoever has the biggest fist makes the rules.”
“Then, if we just fly our ship, which is so large, directly over, won’t it be too conspicuous?” Gu Zhixia raised a very practical question.
Although the Natural Selection could be disguised, its massive size would still attract unnecessary attention once it got close.
“Indeed,” Lin Mo’s answer was vivid and brutal.
“We can’t alert the enemy; we don’t know if Leviathan has any informants inside.”
“So, we need to find a more low-key way to get in.”
He turned to look at Gu Zhixia, his gaze self-evident.
Ten minutes later.
Inside the Natural Selection’s massive Hangar.
Two war machines, emanating a terrifying sense of oppression, stood silently on the launch rails.
One was the “Yan Luo,” entirely black, with sharp lines and a destructive aesthetic. Every inch of its armor seemed forged from solidified abyss; its mere presence warped the surrounding light.
The other was the silver-blue “Thunder Dragon,” which, after seven days and 108 brutal defeats in devilish training, seemed to have acquired a hint of its master’s rebellious and sharp aura on its surface.
“Your ‘Yan Luo’ is a bit too exaggerated, isn’t it?” Gu Zhixia stood at the entrance of the “Thunder Dragon’s” cockpit, her mouth twitching slightly as she looked at the mech beside her, which resembled a descending demon god.
“Is this what you call low-key?”
“Its oppressive presence is too strong; it will become the focus of everyone’s attention the moment it appears.”
“No, this is true low-key,” Lin Mo’s voice came from inside the “Yan Luo’s” cockpit, calm and filled with absolute confidence.
“When your strength is so great that all those with ill intentions don’t even dare to make a move, then you are the most low-key one.”
“Because no one dares to provoke you.”
He paused, then added,
“Remember, our objective this time is to efficiently gather intelligence, not to get entangled in meaningless fights.”
“Find a reliable guide who is familiar with the internal situation of the Eye of the Storm as quickly as possible.”
“Understood.” Gu Zhixia said no more, executing a swift maneuver to enter the “Thunder Dragon’s” cockpit.
The hatch slowly closed.
“Sister! Brother Mo! Be careful!” Gu Nianqiu’s voice came through the comms.
She stood in the Gena Ku’s observation room, hugging her carrot pillow, waving her small hand vigorously at the two mechs.
“If you encounter bad guys, beat them down! Then I’ll make you a delicious celebration feast!”
This pre-battle pep talk, filled with her personal style, softened Gu Zhixia’s usually taut, pretty face a few degrees.
“Prepare for launch,” Lin Mo’s voice instantly pulled the atmosphere back to grim determination.
“Three.”
“Two.”
“One.”
“Launch!”
Whoosh—! Whoosh—!
Two streaks of light, one black and one blue, like two comets tearing through the darkness, instantly shot out from the Natural Selection’s hull!
At astonishing speed, they precisely navigated through that perilous cosmic graveyard.
Between countless wreckage of warships, they executed two dazzling, intricate maneuvers, racing towards the chaotic “Safe Harbor.”
“Safe Harbor,” Public Berth C-7.
This was a public area specifically for small ships making temporary stops for resupply or trade.
At this moment, several dilapidated Scavenger ships were docked in the berth.
A group of Scavengers, dressed in greasy work clothes and reeking of sweat and alcohol, were gathered, loudly boasting and playing a gambling game using rusty nuts as chips.
Just then,
A piercing, unauthorized docking alarm suddenly blared frantically throughout the entire berth hall!
“What the hell? Which clueless idiot doesn’t know to pay the docking fee outside first?!”
