133: test
The completion of the Anvil Base was like a giant stone thrown into a calm lake.
Its massive size, cold materials, and efficient, almost barbaric construction methods were all out of place with the native environment of the Constructed Vitality plane.
The five-hundred-meter-high majestic city walls cast a huge, oppressive shadow under the orange-yellow sky, announcing the forceful intervention of an external will.
Inside the base, Spirit Eye efficiently executed Brian's commands.
Millions of robot guards quickly took over various sections of the city walls, defense towers, and key nodes, fitting into this war machine like precise gears.
One thousand Doomsday Judgment Squads were dispersed throughout the base's core area and several strategic strongpoints, their cold muzzles pointing into the distance, forming the ultimate deterrent force of the base.
Subsequent engineering units and supplies continued to pour in through the still-stable giant teleportation gate, making the base visibly more complete and dangerous.
Two days later.
Approximately six standard hours after the base began stable operation, the early warning arrived as expected.
"Alert! Large-scale, organized high-speed units are approaching!" Spirit Eye's clear voice echoed in the command center where Brian and Eric were located.
At the same time, on the giant tactical sandbox, about eight hundred kilometers east of the base, a dense cluster of red light dots began to appear and spread rapidly towards the base.
"They've arrived," Brian's eyes narrowed, unsurprised.
"Spirit Eye, deploy reconnaissance units and acquire real-time imagery. All defensive units are to elevate to Level Two combat readiness."
"Understood! sky patrollers are moving out for reconnaissance, optical camouflage activated, high-precision image transmission link being established..."
Next to the tactical sandbox, a huge light screen lit up, displaying high-altitude Overlooking imagery transmitted back by the forward sky patrollers.
The scene in the image, even for Brian and Eric who were mentally prepared, still caused a strange impact.
It was not a traditional military formation, but rather a surging, living tide of mixed metal and flesh!
Leading the charge were tens of thousands of creatures resembling enlarged armored hounds combined with praying mantises.
They had metallic exoskeletons, strong muscle fibers at their joints, and compound eyes that glowed crimson. Their speed was astonishing as they ran and leaped.
Saliva dripping from their mouths was clearly corrosive, scorching the ground with hissing white smoke—these were typical biomass reconnaissance/assault units.
Following closely were even larger behemoths, like moving fortresses.
They resembled rhinos or mammoths covered in thick biological armor, with organic cannon barrels growing on their backs like coral clusters, and unstable energy glowing at their muzzles.
They clearly possessed both ramming and long-range fire support capabilities.
Their heavy footsteps caused the ground to tremble slightly.
At low altitude, numerous units resembling a hybrid of bats and drones flew.
They emitted piercing high-frequency sonic waves, their wings composed of translucent biological membranes and metallic skeletons, with some kind of spore sac or energy emitter suspended from their abdomens.
Above this mixed army, several exceptionally conspicuous giant figures circled—these were flying units over a hundred meters long, shaped like Western dragons, but their wings were metal skeletons covered in skin, and the end of their long tail vertebrae was a huge, living, opening and closing, writhing energy aggregation organ.
Powerful energy fields emanated from their bodies.
They were clearly elite units with command or strategic strike capabilities.
"The Constructed Vitality Alliance... truly lives up to its name," Eric clicked his tongue, stroking his chin with interest.
"Look at those cannon barrels and energy organs, perfectly integrated with nerve bundles and muscles. This technology... it's both crazy and fascinating!"
"All units identified as hostile targets. Threat level: Medium. Estimated quantity: approximately two hundred and fifty thousand. Estimated contact time: 17 minutes," Spirit Eye calmly reported.
"Execute according to the predetermined defense plan," Brian ordered, his tone steady.
"Let them enter optimal range. It's time to test the hardness of our Anvil."
The Anvil Base stood like a silent behemoth, quietly awaiting the approach of its prey.
Weapon platforms on the city walls silently rose, energy gathering within the cannon barrels, emitting a low charging hum.
breakers deployed behind the city walls adjusted their firing angles.
The silver rings of the Doomsday Judgment Squads rotated slightly, locking onto the most threatening giant flying units in the high sky.
When the vanguard of that mixed tide entered the hundred-kilometer range of the base, battle erupted instantly!
First to unleash their power were the surface-to-surface missile clusters and long-range magic energy cannons deployed in specific areas of the city walls.
Countless missiles trailing exhaust plumes and thick energy beams streaked across the sky, like a rain of death, precisely falling into the densest areas of the beast horde.
Boom!
Boom! Boom!
Boom—!!
Continuous explosions reverberated through the heavens and earth, fire, shockwaves, scattering metal fragments, and flesh instantly turned that area into a purgatory.
The charging hound-mantis units were torn to shreds in swathes, and the massive fortress beasts were violently blasted, stumbling to the ground, their biological cannon barrels twisting and breaking in the explosions.
Low-flying bat units attempting to approach were immediately intercepted by an anti-aircraft barrage formed by concentrated fire from basic robots, crashing down like swatted mosquitoes.
However, these native creatures displayed astonishing adaptability and tenacity.
They charged in a dispersed manner, utilizing terrain for cover, and some units even consumed the remains of their kin after being injured, repairing damage or undergoing temporary mutations at a visible rate!
Just as the ground battle raged intensely, the several dragon-like elite units in the high sky emitted sharp screeches, and the energy aggregation organs at their tails suddenly lit up.
Several thick breaths, mixed with bio-plasma and metallic jets, slammed towards the Anvil Base's city walls like spears of divine punishment!
"Intercept!" Brian calmly commanded.
The Doomsday Judgment Squads, already poised, instantly opened fire!
It wasn't a high-energy aggregation strike, but efficient, precise point-shooting!
Dozens of bright white plasma trails arrived first, precisely hitting those powerful breaths like surgical knives!
Rumble—!!
Huge energy fireballs erupted in the air, and violent shockwaves blew away nearby flying units.
The native dragons' breaths were detonated mid-air, failing to cause any damage to the city walls.
The dragons seemed enraged, or perhaps received new orders, as they began to climb higher, preparing to launch a second, possibly more powerful attack.
But Brian no longer intended to give them the opportunity.
"Lock on to high-value targets in the high sky. Doomsday Judgment Squad, use Divine Authority Judgment mode, one-tenth of units fire in a volley, completely eliminate the threat."
Upon command, one hundred Doomsday Judgment Squads deployed within the base instantly glowed brightly!
Their energy connected into a net, and an unbearable, ultimate brilliance erupted from the front of their muzzles!
The next second, a hundred ultimate energy beams, far thicker than any previous attack, internally flowing with dark purple and scorching white destructive energy, shot towards the several dragon units gathered in the high sky, like swords of divine punishment piercing heaven and earth, calmly, yet with an absolute will to crush everything!
There was no explosion sound.
Only the ultimate blossoming of light and the subsequent void that swallowed everything.
When the strong light dissipated, those powerful dragon units, which were the core of this invading force, along with the area they occupied, had completely vanished, as if directly erased from the world by an invisible giant hand.
Elite units were instantly annihilated!
This caused great deterrence and command-level chaos for the mixed army.
Their offensive clearly stalled, and even signs of localized rout appeared.
"Enemy command nodes cleared, morale shaken. Order ground forces, attack! Expand the gains, clear all remaining enemies within fifty kilometers of the base!"
Brian seized the opportunity and issued a counterattack order.
The huge gates of the Anvil Base slowly opened.
The robot legions, already waiting behind the gates, poured out of the sturdy fortifications for the first time like a steel flood, launching a merciless charge and clear-out against the confused enemy.
The first battle concluded with the absolute victory of the Anvil Base and the display of force by the external civilization.
But this was merely the beginning.
Brian and Eric both knew that they were facing a mature civilization with a unique technological path, and this contact was probably not even a test.
The real challenge still lay ahead.
