144: relay

"I... I..."

The man struggled to speak, feeling his flesh and blood melting away.

The next moment, he collapsed to the ground, his vision gradually blurring.

His companion wiped the blood from his face, then saw the man dissolve into a pool of blood.

"Damn it! What is that thing!"

Similar situations were happening all around. The meticulously clean square suddenly turned into a living hell.

People fled while attacking the surrounding blood-red glows, trying to carve out a chance for survival.

But still, people fell, their bodies turning into puddles of flesh and blood, spreading across the ground.

Kong Yan was now surrounded by several wind blades, which severed the incoming blood-red glows without him needing to act.

He didn't directly attack Cui Rang and the others; instead, he protected the known military undercover agents behind him.

Kong Yan's unusual actions immediately caught everyone's attention. Cui Rang glanced at Kong Yan and said with interest,

"When did such a master appear in our Gathering Place?"

Captain Huang immediately recognized Kong Yan. He frowned in thought and said,

"This guy joined the Patrol Team a few days ago. He must have been hiding his strength."

Cui Rang nodded, his narrowed eyes showing no discernible emotion, and chuckled,

"He must be from the Shicheng Military. They probably found out about our plan.

But it's fine. If the military loses such a strong Professional, they'll probably be heartbroken, won't they?"

They watched the people outside like spectators at a cricket fight.

And those blood-red glows didn't attack them at all, as if that area was separate.

"Should we go out and kill him?"

Liu Song stepped forward, a blazing flame rising from his staff.

Cui Rang, however, shook his head, patted Liu Song's shoulder, and said,

"No need. You'll have your chance to shine later."

Liu Song didn't ask further, just nodded and retreated, watching everything outside vigilantly.

Kong Yan, meanwhile, covered these Professionals, quickly heading towards the outer perimeter.

"The teleportation anchor is offline! You guys hurry back and call for reinforcements!

This Cui Rang has gone mad. If he's not stopped, everyone in this Gathering Place might die!

I'll go back first to evacuate the crowd. Every person saved is one saved!"

Kong Yan was no longer holding back his strength. Visible trails of wind appeared beneath his feet, increasing his speed by more than a little.

In just a few minutes, he led these few people to a wall near the residential area.

One Professional leaped up, scaled the wall in a few movements, and then gave an OK gesture to those behind him.

But before his smile could fully form, a large amount of blood began to seep from his seven orifices.

He knelt softly on the ground, saying to Kong Yan,

"Brother Kong... I..."

Before he finished speaking, his body, like a candle under a flame, melted directly into a mass of flesh and blood.

This flesh and blood did not spread outwards but, as if attracted, crept towards the inside of the courtyard wall.

"Brother Kong, look! Is there a light screen on this wall!"

Kong Yan looked up and indeed saw a thin, blood-red light screen seeming to emerge on the courtyard wall under the bright moonlight.

In other words, the Professional just now had directly walked into the blood-red glow himself!

Kong Yan's expression instantly became complicated. He glanced behind him, then at the freedom just a step away, and suddenly fell silent.

No wonder Cui Rang and his group had no intention of pursuing them; they had already prepared to prevent anyone from escaping.

A few seconds later, he looked at the remaining few and instructed,

"You guys stay here and don't move. There are no blood-red glows here for now. I'll go back and think of a solution."

"Okay, Brother Kong, please be careful."

Kong Yan nodded and immediately rushed back in the direction he came from.

However, after he left, these few people suddenly exchanged glances.

The disheveled man among them looked at the gradually bustling residential area and said to the person next to him,

"Do you think we can still escape?"

"It's very difficult."

"What a jinx, though I feel the same way, hahaha."

Their expressions showed no fear, only a hint of regret.

"This item fails at critical moments, and phones and computers are useless now."

"Yes, I agree. At critical moments, only humans themselves can survive."

"You thought of it too?"

"Of course, do you think I'm a rookie like Kong Yan?

That kid is just lucky, otherwise he'd still be calling me 'Brother' now!"

The Professionals spoke back and forth, seemingly hiding something from Kong Yan.

A few seconds later, one of the Professionals pointed at the blood-red light screen and said,

"When Old Xing went out just now, he only lasted less than three seconds. We only have five people now, it's a bit urgent."

"Hmm, but it should be fine. When the last person goes out and spits blood, the next person can just take over."

"Okay, I'll go first. You guys line up."

"I'll be second..."

"I guess I'll be third."

The leading man took out the scroll again. He weighed it in his hand and said,

"We've never tried this before. If we guess wrong, we'll have died for nothing."

"That's still better than dying stifled inside, I don't want to be chased around like a rat."

All of them nodded, then lined up, first using their skills to blast a large hole in the wall.

When the opening was large enough, the first person grabbed the scroll and charged outside.

The moment he ran out, he immediately chose to use the scroll.

This time, a faint white light instantly emanated from the scroll.

The light was brighter than the moonlight.

But in just two seconds, blood began to flow from the man's nose and mouth.

He quickly waved at the people inside, and another Professional ran out.

That Professional took the scroll from his hand, and as his mana drained, his eyes lit up:

"It's working... cough..."

Something seemed to be churning in his throat, and after a little over a second, he suddenly spat out a large mouthful of blood.

By this time, the first person who came out had already begun to melt, but he was still grinning as he watched the scene.

He heard it; the effect was working.

"Kong Yan... this... kid... is still... too... green..."

He wanted to laugh but couldn't, only producing some indistinct syllables.

The third Professional had already rushed out. Beneath his feet was his companion's flesh and blood, and tears streamed from his eyes.

But he only lasted less than a second before he became unsteady on his feet.

The fourth and fifth people rushed out consecutively, providing the mana needed for the scroll.

The scroll was passed from hand to hand, eventually becoming covered in blood.

Only its silvery-white light, reflected by the blood, appeared even more brilliant.

Less than a second after the fifth person received the scroll, a silvery-white magic circle immediately appeared beside them.

The magic circle seemed to still be forming, but an extremely profound fluctuation emanated from it.

However, these five fallen people did not notice that in the night sky near them, there was a completely black crow.
