251: Seaside fishing village
Listening to these people's conversation, Piao Jun couldn't help but feel both amused and sad.
However, he was ultimately just a passerby here. Once he repaid this favor, he could leave without any worries.
After resolving the most important matter, the Village Chief finally looked at Piao Jun and Meina and asked, "Hello, I am the Village Chief of the fishing village nearby. May I ask who you two are?"
Piao Jun showed a friendly smile and said, "Ah, us? We were swept here by the waves and luckily rescued by Uncle Haisheng."
The Village Chief nodded, hesitated for a moment, and then continued to ask,
"Haisheng is coming to the village with us later, so why don't you two stay?"
"Mainly, the village is no longer under my control, and that person might cause some trouble if he sees this girl."
The girl he was referring to was, of course, Meina by the bed. Although she looked a bit disheveled now, the still-damp seawater outlined her figure perfectly.
Piao Jun thought about it but decided not to stay here.
To be honest, he was not entirely comfortable with Yang Haisheng returning to the fishing village alone.
The 'that person' they spoke of made Piao Jun vaguely feel it would be a threat.
"Village Chief, may I ask what the strength of the person you mentioned is?"
"It would be best if you could mention both his Class and level. I'm a bit curious."
It was clear that the Village Chief had a good relationship with Yang Haisheng, as could be seen from their previous conversation.
However, due to his unshakeable sense of responsibility, or perhaps some other reason, the other party could only remain in that fishing village.
The old Village Chief took a deep look at Piao Jun and then said,
"That person is a Professional of over level twenty. His Class seems to be some kind of Earth Warrior, and it's said to be an Outstanding Class."
"Moreover, some restless people in the village have already defected to him. If it weren't for many people still supporting me, this old Village Chief, I'm afraid the village would already be theirs."
Upon hearing these words, Piao Jun was immediately stunned.
Over level twenty?
He thought he had misheard and only confirmed he hadn't after asking again.
Yang Haisheng looked at him with some curiosity and asked,
"What's wrong? Why do you look so disappointed?"
"He's probably the highest level in the village because we didn't have many monsters here before; mainly, those Mutated Creatures were quite troublesome."
Piao Jun shook his head and said, "It's nothing, I just feel that I'm level twenty-one, and I can actually be considered a master in this village."
He lied; he understated his level by ten.
The Village Chief glanced at him but still said nothing.
It wasn't that no one had been washed ashore here before, but the outcome was usually only one of two.
One was to join that person's command and become his lackey.
The other was to be too weak and be directly used as bait.
There was no other way; almost everyone who could be swept here lived by the sea.
Monsters were few, and Mutated Creatures were many but difficult to deal with, causing their levels to be generally low.
It's not possible for someone to specifically level up in monster-dense areas, then dive into the sea, and then be washed ashore by the waves, right?
Yang Haisheng and his daughter tidied up their belongings slightly, then prepared to set off with the Village Chief.
However, looking at his expression, it was clear that his heart was filled with complex emotions.
As for Piao Jun, he wanted Meina to change into looser clothes before leaving, but then he discovered that her storage ring was also empty.
"Where are your things?" Piao Jun asked helplessly.
"I also gave them to Boss Gu Qinghan..." Meina said, a little aggrieved.
Piao Jun's expression changed, and he immediately corrected her, "What do you mean 'also gave'? I temporarily left them with him, understand?"
Meina nodded obediently. She knew that this important figure in front of her was also a powerful individual.
Even if he wasn't as strong as Gu Qinghan, he could definitely protect her from being harmed by these Villagers.
Piao Jun sighed and scratched his hair, finally just telling Meina to smudge her face a bit before following these people away.
The group walked along the beach for over half an hour, then turned a corner and saw a simple village in the distance.
The Village Chief motioned for everyone to stop, then looked at Yang Haisheng and said,
"I know you must be feeling very upset right now, but for Xiaoyu, you must not act impulsively."
"You are currently the only Earth Elementalist in the village; that person won't easily touch you."
The old Village Chief had actually said this many times on the way, but at this moment, he emphasized it again.
After all, the hatred of having one's wife stolen was irreconcilable; almost no man could control himself.
Yang Haisheng, however, looked at Xiaoyu, who was following behind him, and stroked her head, saying,
"Don't worry, I'll just consider her dead. For Xiaoyu and for myself, I won't be impulsive."
The Village Chief sighed but had no better solution, so he could only continue walking ahead, leading everyone back to the village.
Upon entering the village, Piao Jun noticed that every household here showed signs of being inhabited.
The number of monsters was small, and many people survived, but their levels lagged behind the average. It was hard to tell if this was a blessing or a curse.
It wasn't until they arrived at a huge pit that the Village Chief signaled everyone to stop.
Piao Jun looked forward and saw that the pool these people spoke of was at least the size of a basketball court.
The pool's depth was unknown, and the water inside was somewhat murky and even smelled foul.
But judging from the ripples that occasionally appeared on the water's surface, there must be something swimming in it.
The Village Chief looked at Yang Haisheng and said,
"Haisheng, it's up to you. It would be best if you could expand this place to twice its size today."
"I've already told the Villagers that if you complete it, each family will give you some food or supplies."
"Xiaoyu is growing; do a good job."
Yang Haisheng nodded and had Xiaoyu stand with the Village Chief.
However, when he turned around, he saw Piao Jun looking around, left and right, at something.
"Oh, by the way, young man, I don't even know your names."
"Also, you can tell the Village Chief about that friend you mentioned; perhaps someone here has seen him, you never know."
Piao Jun snapped back to reality and quickly said with a smile, "Ah, my name is Piao Jun, and her name is Meina."
Then, he turned to the Village Chief and roughly described Gu Qinghan's name and appearance.
The Village Chief spread the news to the people around and then said to Piao Jun, "Your friend's surname is Gu, just like that person in the village."
Piao Jun raised an eyebrow and asked, "That person is also surnamed Gu? What's his name then?"
"Gu Song, but he doesn't allow others to call him by his name directly, saying it's disrespectful."
"Over time, we just got used to calling him 'that person,'" the Village Chief said softly to Piao Jun, looking at a noticeably more luxurious residence in the distance that was clearly built not long ago.
Piao Jun nodded, then continued to cast his gaze to every corner of the village.
Some Villagers here looked curious, also sizing up the crowd gathered there.
Some Villagers had gloomy eyes, hiding in their rooms, watching everything happening outside.
But no matter what, this was a backward little fishing village, both before and after the game began.
Just as he had withdrawn his gaze, a voice suddenly sounded behind him.
This voice carried a clear sense of authority, yet it made Piao Jun feel a sense of resistance from his heart.
"You said the person you're looking for is named Gu Qinghan?"
