288: Rumors of the Blasphemous Land

Gu Qinghan frowned slightly. The opponent's behavior was nothing like someone on the verge of death.

Torres looked at Gu Qinghan, seeming to understand his apprehension, and laughed heartily:

"Alright, I won't tease you anymore.

To be honest, I only came here to see if there were any formidable individuals, and I didn't expect to actually find one.

Your ability to resist the Blood Tide shows that your position as the top ranker is well-deserved.

If you ever come to my kingdom, I will surely entertain you well."

Piao Jun couldn't stand it anymore. He stepped forward and cursed:

"What are you putting on? 'Come to your kingdom later.'

You're going to die today, you know that?"

Torres just continued to smile, offering no further explanation.

Gu Qinghan condensed a Bone Spear and pinned him to the ground.

But strangely, no blood flowed from Torres's body.

Gu Qinghan ordered his subordinates to swarm him and utterly destroy Torres.

Yet, bizarrely, after he 'died,' he merely dissolved into a foul-smelling, black, viscous pool of blood, leaving no corpse behind.

There wasn't even any Necromantic Power released.

Gu Qinghan checked his quest progress and ultimately confirmed one fact:

This Torres truly wasn't dead.

But then, who was it that he had just fought?

With this question in mind, Gu Qinghan killed the groaning Demon Contractor nearby.

A surge of Necromantic Power poured into Gu Qinghan's body, directly pushing him to the threshold of Level 40!

But this time, the trial quest Gu Qinghan received was different from all the previous ones:

Trial Quest: Become the Last Necromancer. Current remaining Necromancer count: 2.

There weren't two choices like before, only this one trial quest.

"Become the Last Necromancer?"

Gu Qinghan looked at the hint in this trial quest and confirmed that there should only be two Necromancers left: himself and Torres.

But where was Torres?

Gu Qinghan's wealth was already approaching seven hundred thousand, but no one dared to challenge him anymore.

No one knew if Gu Qinghan could still summon that Giant Whale.

Even if he couldn't, players' vitality would be restored to peak condition after each battle.

After the previous battle, everyone realized that Gu Qinghan was in a different league than them.

When Gu Qinghan returned to the stands, the Witch walked straight over.

She glanced at the unfazed Gu Qinghan, and couldn't help but shiver internally.

This guy had killed thousands of people, all of them experts, in three battles, yet he appeared so calm.

Although those people deserved their deaths, their greed had killed them.

The challenges below continued, but Gu Qinghan knew he probably wouldn't need to participate again.

He looked at the Witch walking directly towards him and couldn't help but ask:

"What's wrong? Do you need something from me?"

The Witch quickly nodded, organized her thoughts, and said:

"I actually know the person you just fought.

His name should be Torres, and his profession is Necromancer..."

The Witch first described the Torres she remembered to Gu Qinghan, then asked:

"If I'm not mistaken, did he turn into a pool of foul-smelling blood after he 'died' just now?"

Gu Qinghan raised an eyebrow. From the stands, one shouldn't be able to see the details of what happened below, unless someone had special professional abilities.

And judging from her description just now, she clearly knew this Torres long ago.

"You know this Torres, don't you?"

Under Gu Qinghan's gaze, the Witch suddenly felt a bit afraid to meet his eyes.

But she forced herself to meet Gu Qinghan's gaze, nodded, and said:

"That's right. My faction actually had conflicts with him and had even killed him before.

However, his name has never disappeared from the rankings.

This means that although he has died many times, he has never truly and completely died."

Gu Qinghan became interested upon hearing all this.

In this global game, there was one most fair aspect:

Everyone only had one life, unlike in games where one could revive infinitely.

But this Torres, with some unknown ability, could truly have multiple chances.

He was really playing this game like an MMORPG!

Thinking of this, Gu Qinghan looked at the rankings again.

Level Rank seventh, Combat Power Rank third, Kill Rank second... Torres's name was still there, and Gu Qinghan was sure this Torres was the same one he had just encountered!

Gu Qinghan stroked his chin, thought for a few seconds, then suddenly looked at the red-haired Witch again:

"You came to me, are you trying to use my ability to kill Torres for you?"

The Witch's mouth opened, but her alluring red lips uttered no words.

After a long pause, she said somewhat dejectedly:

"Never mind. Since we're going to cooperate, I should show my greatest sincerity.

You're right, I want to use your hand to completely kill Torres.

This person is quite famous in the West; he founded a faction called the Place of Blasphemy."

"And your faction? What's its name?" Gu Qinghan asked.

The Witch showed no intention of hiding anything and replied directly:

"My faction is called Phoenix, and we've had several clashes with the Place of Blasphemy.

The reason for cooperating with you is also this; if we don't eliminate him, our future losses will only grow larger."

Gu Qinghan didn't immediately agree to her request but thought for a moment and asked:

"I heard Torres say he welcomed me to his kingdom. Has he already unified a country?"

This was something Gu Qinghan absolutely needed to know. If the opponent truly had such a powerful faction, then killing him would be very difficult.

The Witch looked at the people around them who were watching, led Gu Qinghan to a corner, and whispered:

"He indeed has that goal, but currently, he is only entrenched in one city.

We suspect that all those bodies of his that 'died' before were clones, and his true body is hidden in that city.

But if you call that place a kingdom, at most it could only be considered a kingdom of the undead.

Because in that city, besides him and a few men and women he occasionally uses for release, everyone else is the kind of undead you've seen!

Of course, you don't need to worry too much. Most of the undead aren't as powerful as the ones you've seen, otherwise he would have already launched an attack."

Gu Qinghan directly interrupted the Witch and asked with a frown:

"Wait a moment, there's a question I don't understand.

If that place only has him, you could completely gather your forces and gradually chip away at it.

Even if the city is large, you could slowly clear it out and force him to come out, right?"

The Witch sighed, then said:

"This is also why I want to cooperate with you. Do you know why that place is called the Place of Blasphemy?"

Gu Qinghan shook his head, waiting for the Witch's explanation.

The Witch sighed and slowly explained:

"Because as long as anyone steps into that city, their vitality and mana will slowly decrease.

Furthermore, if they stay for too long, the lost vitality and mana cannot even be recovered.

Some say it's a cursed place, and thus the rumor of the Place of Blasphemy gradually spread."

Hearing this news, Gu Qinghan couldn't help but fall into deep thought again.

Necromancers could indeed use the power of curses, but it should be impossible to encompass an entire city.

At least, it was highly unlikely at the moment.

Or, was this the power of a Demon, which he had never used before?
