441: Gradual corrosion
In the quiet wilderness, a squad of Phoenix Legion soldiers were patrolling idly.
“Why doesn’t our Legion station itself in the Blazing Wilds? Most of us are fire-attributed. Wouldn’t that give us a home-field advantage?” one soldier asked.
“Are you stupid? What kind of things enter the Blazing Wilds? Those with off-the-charts fire resistance. The beasts living there also have off-the-charts fire resistance. If we go, the damage we deal would be too low.”
“Oh, right. I was thinking too narrowly. Coming here to the Ten Thousand Mountain Ridges, everything is Life-attributed. Only the mining areas have more Earth-attributed things. Against these Life-attributed creatures, our fire-attribute damage is off-the-charts.”
“Exactly. Otherwise, why do you think everyone gathered from thousands of miles away?”
The two were chatting idly. They called themselves a squad, but they weren’t really, as the rest of the members hadn’t arrived yet.
After all, the Battlefield of the Gods is so vast, and after being randomly teleported, it’s quite difficult to gather everyone.
“Huh, why is there a red light over there?” one demon asked curiously.
“It must be some kind of treasure. I don’t sense any Life aura. Let’s go check it out,” another demon said after a brief scan.
After the two demons reached a consensus, they went together to investigate.
It would naturally be good to get a treasure; it would be an unexpected bonus.
Upon arrival.
“Excellent, it truly is a treasure!”
One demon said in surprise.
“Uda, look quickly.” He looked at his companion.
But he saw his companion freeze for a moment.
“What’s wrong with you?”
“Nothing, just a bit surprised. I didn’t expect this to work,” Uda said, his expression returning to normal, smiling.
“Hahaha, I’m quite surprised too. We’ll split it fifty-fifty, good brothers for Life.” He put his arm around Uda and walked back.
After they left, a red figure appeared.
“A Soul Reaper is truly effective against low-level targets.”
Then, he disappeared into the night.
Uda returned to his patrol until the shift change.
“Uda, why aren’t you in form?”
His companion asked.
“Nothing, I’m just thinking about some things.”
“What are you hiding from me?”
“Hahaha, things about the Undying Phoenix paradise.”
“Alright, you just made a fortune, and you’re already thinking about spending it.”
Uda smiled.
.........
“Uda, what do you have to report?”
“Officer, I’ve discovered a secret resource point. Based on my judgment, there are probably many treasures inside. My companion and I only found a valuable magic crystal in the outer layer.”
“Oh? Then why didn’t you report it to the Legion?”
“Officer, you understand. If I report it, how much money will be left after all the deductions? Of course, reporting it to you is the most cost-effective,” Uda said with a fawning smile.
“Hahaha, interesting, interesting. You have awareness, well done. If I eat meat, I’ll at least give you soup. Those bloodsuckers eat meat and don’t even share the soup. Take me there.”
“Yes, sir.”
The demon officer quietly left with a few trusted subordinates.
........
“Hmm, what…?”
“Officer, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Dig it up for me. We’ll go back as soon as you’re done digging.”
“Alright, there really are a lot of treasures here. That kid Uda has good awareness.”
.........
“Steward Simback, I recently…”
“Oh? Is that true?” Simback became interested.
He had just been thinking about the Undying Phoenix paradise.
That thing, while enjoyable, was too expensive.
There were nine levels, each one more ecstatic than the last.
But the higher the level, the more expensive it was.
He was just thinking about how to upgrade his level when someone brought him money.
Bringing a pillow when one is sleepy, how wonderful.
“I can’t let Whisson know. That guy is too greedy. He’ll take a lot of the profits by relying on his military power,” Simback instantly thought of this.
He and Whisson were on the same level, having come out together, but the other party held real power. Once he learned the news, there would be no share of the meat left for him.
“Well done. I will put in a good word for you with Steward Sophia,” Simback said, appreciating him.
This kid has vision. If he wants to be promoted, it’s just a matter of us putting in a few good words.
“Thank you, Steward.”
Simback quietly arrived at the treasure hiding spot.
“Good, you have awareness. This treasure is up to par, and it’s still warm, so it must have just been placed there,” he, being experienced, immediately noticed signs of human intervention.
His evaluation of that demon grew even higher.
Sensible, generous, and smooth in his actions. If this matter were exposed, who would dare say it wasn’t? This treasure was just an accidental discovery by him, absolutely not a bribe.
“Then I’ll help you out. How it ultimately turns out depends on your luck, kid.”
He ordered his subordinates to collect the treasures, already thinking about how to promote that demon.
Suddenly, an unusual mental fluctuation appeared. As a Dominator Five-star, he instantly sensed something was wrong.
His mental defense equipment activated.
“Enemy attack!”
He roared.
But his voice didn’t carry out. Unbeknownst to them, this place had already been sealed by a forbidden power.
Lin Ye slowly appeared.
The few Demon God Four-star guards instantly lost their ability to resist, leaving only Simback struggling desperately.
“Who are you?” Simback struggled fiercely, but a more powerful oppressive force emerged.
He looked closely and saw eight figures around him casting a spell formation.
“The Soul Reaper’s level is still not high enough. He’s only Demon God Five-star, and he can be resisted,” Lin Ye appeared before Simback.
“A slave Contract isn’t that easy to sign. If a Dominator Five-star could be easily dealt with by you, then the path of slavery would be invincible,” Hu said.
Lin Ye grabbed Simback’s head with one hand, and a larger energy poured into his mind.
That energy continuously disintegrated Simback’s defenses, intending to plant a seed deep within his Soul.
“Ah ah ah ah ah.”
The pain from his Soul made Simback suffer immensely, but his voice couldn’t be heard at all.
The wailing gradually subsided.
“Master.”
Simback slowly knelt.
“Mm, take your subordinates and go back.”
“Yes.”
Simback’s subordinates, who were also enslaved, also woke up one after another.
The few demons quietly returned to the military camp.
“Now I’ve finally driven a nail into the Phoenix Legion, but the same method won’t work on Sophia,” Lin Ye looked at the departing Simback, pondering his next move.
“Your current Soul Reaper cultivation is indeed too strained against a Demon God Six-star target. To enslave them, you need to use other methods: training, suggestion, loosening defenses, drug assistance, etc. But those take too much time.” Hu followed Lin Ye, and even if he didn’t understand much about enslavement before, he understood now.
Moreover, he had some understanding before.
“Sophia will definitely not leave for too long. Those long-term methods won’t work. Now, let’s see if we can find a way. There’s only one chance. Once we fail, the entire Phoenix Legion will be on alert, and all our efforts will be in vain,” Lin Ye said.
Now, it’s time to discuss how to deal with Sophia.
