166: Yang Qi, the son of destiny
Without any cargo, the setting sail returned to port very quickly. Along the way, he encountered several good fishing spots, all of which were marked on the map.
About three hours later, he saw the coastline in the distance. Yang Qi took out his phone and called Chen Tianming.
“Hello, A Ming, I’ll be at the dock in half an hour,” Yang Qi said.
“Ah! So fast? Did something happen?” However, he couldn't say this out loud and could only think it to himself.
Chen Tianming felt a bit strange when he heard Yang Qi was coming back. He knew that the setting sail was primarily for fishing.
Normally, the return trip would be quite late, as it takes a lot of time to catch several tons of fish.
“Oh! Yang Qi is back so quickly this time! He must have encountered a large school of fish! He filled the hold so fast!”
Chen Tianming, of course, had high emotional intelligence. Although he was grumbling inwardly, the words he spoke were very pleasant.
Yang Qi also laughed heartily upon hearing this:
“Hahahaha, I really did encounter a school of fish, but the hold isn’t full. There are only a little over four hundred fish in total.”
“This… well, that’s good. I’ll drive over to pick them up.”
Chen Tianming didn't know what else to say and replied very politely, as Yang Qi often caught premium seafood.
“Hehehe, you should call a few workers to come with a live fish truck. You can’t handle this alone!” Yang Qi said with a playful smile.
“Oh! Alright, I understand. I’ll call people to come over right away. Can you tell me what kind of premium goods they are?”
Chen Tianming knew immediately that it must be something good. A sense of anticipation rose in his heart.
“Hehehe, there’s nothing particularly premium, just over four hundred Large Yellow Croakers!”
Yang Qi’s laughter carried a playful and show-off tone. Anyone could hear it.
“Holy cow, what did you say? Say that again, I didn’t hear you clearly!”
Chen Tianming’s voice rose by an octave. He couldn’t quite believe his ears, thinking he had misheard and wanting to confirm.
“Hehehe, just over four hundred Large Yellow Croakers! What’s the big deal?!”
Yang Qi said unhurriedly, his full Versailles-like tone perfectly transmitted to Chen Tianming’s ears through the phone signal.
“Holy cow, holy cow, you… this… this is too damn amazing…”
“I’ve never seen such an awesome fisherman, Yang Qi, please accept my deepest respect…”
Chen Tianming was utterly stunned by Yang Qi’s words, completely incoherent and babbling.
Yang Qi was still preparing to play a few more “word games,” but he didn’t expect Chen Tianming to have already hung up. He was probably gathering workers to head to the dock to pick up the goods.
“Hello, Brother Jun.”
Yang Qi felt he hadn't shown off enough, that something was still missing, so he started looking for a second person to brag to.
“Hello, Yang Qi! Weren’t you out fishing? I thought you wouldn’t be back until evening.”
Zhang Jun asked, a little surprised.
“Yep, went out at dawn, and I’m back now. Only caught a little over four hundred fish in total.”
Yang Qi replied.
“Ah! Only a little over four hundred fish! No worries, tomorrow, you and I, brothers, will go deep-sea fishing and make up for today’s losses.”
Zhang Jun was a bit surprised when he heard that Yang Qi had only caught a little over four hundred fish:
“He used to fill the hold every time. Why so few this time? Did he mess up?”
“No, that’s not right. With his personality, if he lost money, he wouldn’t even mention it. There must be another reason.”
He thought about it carefully and realized something was off, so he said:
“Four hundred fish is four hundred fish. It’s better than coming back empty-handed. At worst, we can keep them all for ourselves to eat. We could eat them for half a year.”
“Keep them for ourselves for half a year? I’ve been asking for a long time, and Bai Xue only made one for me.”
Yang Qi said, feeling a bit down.
Now Zhang Jun was even more curious, thinking to himself: “What does he mean? Bai Xue isn’t stingy. Is the fish too big? Or too expensive?”
“This… so what kind of fish is it? Bai Xue wouldn’t even want to give it to you to eat!” Zhang Jun asked.
“Right away, I’ll send you a photo, and you’ll know. Hehehe.” Yang Qi let out another sly laugh.
He then turned off his phone and sent Zhang Jun a video, which Bai Xue had taken for him during the second net haul, along with a few photos of the catch.
Zhang Jun had gone out to answer the phone and had just returned to his seat at the tea table. He saw that Yang Qi had indeed sent him a message, and when he opened it, his eyes went wide.
“Holy cow, holy cow, …”
“A Jun, what’s wrong with you? So jumpy. I usually see you as quite steady.”
Zhang Jun’s voice startled the old man who was drinking tea. It turned out he had come to visit his parents that afternoon and had eaten there. Now, the two father and son were drinking tea and chatting.
“Dad, look at this!”
Zhang Jun handed his phone to his father, signaling him to watch the video.
“Oh! This is Yang Qi, isn’t it? Quite interesting! So many Large Yellow Croakers, and they look quite large. There are almost over a hundred of them. These days, such things are hard to come by. Truly good luck.”
Chairman Zhang, being well-traveled and knowledgeable, couldn't help but be a little moved.
“Yang Qi was showing off to me, saying there are over four hundred of them!”
Zhang Jun also said, his face full of envy.
“Over four hundred? That’s truly impressive. This young man is someone with great fortune. If you interact with him more, you might also be able to pick up some of that fortune. Fortune is something that’s hard to explain, but you have to acknowledge its existence.”
Old Man Zhang said to his son.
“Dad, we became friends because we clicked and got along well. I wasn’t thinking of anything else,” Zhang Jun explained.
“I know, and I’m not asking you to do anything. I’m saying that Yang Qi is a person with great fortune and will achieve great things in the future.”
“If you interact with him more, you might also be able to pick up some of that fortune, making things smoother for you in the future. I’m not asking you to do anything to him.”
“You go! He definitely wants to show off in front of you, his big brother. Tell him I really liked the Chinese Spiny Lobster he sent, and thank him for me!”
By the time Zhang Jun arrived at the dock, the setting sail was just about to pull alongside.
Chen Tianming, along with his workers, was already waiting there. He was chatting with Mother Yang, Zheng Jin, and Chen Lanying.
“Hello, Aunts. You’re all here!” Zhang Jun quickened his pace and greeted them.
“A Jun, you’re here!”
“Cousin, you’re here!”
After exchanging greetings, they all walked towards the setting sail.
Once the setting sail was docked, Yang Qi and Bai Xue welcomed everyone aboard for a tour. Bai Xue helped the two mothers first to see the twenty-odd chilled Large Yellow Croakers in the freezer hold.
Yang Qi, on the other hand, led the remaining people towards the live fish holds. He opened the large and small live fish holds, pointed to the fish inside, and began to show off.
“I’m telling you! I was smoking on the deck when I suddenly saw movement on the distant sea surface, so I…”
“You didn’t see it, so you don’t understand how I felt at the time…”
“Have you ever seen thousands of Large Yellow Croakers swim under your feet? I saw it then…”
