205: Missed the fish bite

“Boss, haven't you had lunch yet?”

A voice came from beside Yang Qi. He turned his head and saw that it was the chef, dressed in a white chef’s uniform.

“Oh no! I overslept and missed lunch.”

Yang Qi said, a little embarrassed.

“Hahahaha, this is quite normal when we’re out at sea. Most of the bosses don’t get up to eat lunch.”

The chef said with a smile,

“There’s still a lot of food left from lunch. Would you like to pick a few dishes and I’ll warm them up for you?”

On fishing boats, lunch and dinner are usually served buffet style.

Because anglers never keep to a schedule when they’re fishing. Sometimes, when the fish are biting well, it’s normal for them to fish for an extra hour or two.

So sometimes, when they come late, the food is already cold, and they can only ask the chef to warm it up.

Who knows how anglers usually are? But when they’re fishing, they really aren't particular at all and are extremely hardworking and able to endure hardship.

If they get thirsty, they’ll scoop up some river water to quench it. If they’re really hungry, they’ll even gnaw on some bait.

As long as the fish are biting well, two loaves of bread lasting them a day and a night is considered normal.

“Then thank you, Master. I’ll pick some dishes, and you can warm them up for me.”

Yang Qi said gratefully.

I have to say, the service on this fishing boat is really good.

Not to mention Wang Jinxi and his crewmen, who work tirelessly to serve every angler as best they can.

Just looking at this middle-aged chef, even though lunch was already prepared, and the anglers themselves missed the mealtime,

he still actively helps every angler who missed the meal by reheating their food. That’s truly commendable!

It invisibly increased his own workload several times over.

Doesn't he know how to rest? Can’t he go fishing in his spare time to earn a little extra income?

Therefore, anyone who is dedicated to their work deserves respect, no matter what their position.

“Thank you for your trouble, Master!”

Yang Qi picked some of his favorite dishes and said to the chef.

“You’re too kind. Please have a seat for a moment; I’ll be right with you!”

After Yang Qi finished his meal, he saw Zhang Jun chatting animatedly with a group of people. He didn't go over to disturb his bragging.

Indeed, at this moment, Zhang Jun had the capital to brag to all the anglers on the entire boat.

Because, besides Yang Qi, he was the only one who had caught over five hundred catties of Bluefin Tuna, and two of them at that.

That was enough for him to brag about for a lifetime.

Yang Qi went out to the deck. The sun was scorching, and even with the sea breeze, it was enough to make a person dizzy.

He knew of a place where the sun shouldn't be shining at this time.

When he arrived at the aft deck, sure enough, it was blocked by the cabin, creating a large shaded area. With gusts of sea breeze, it didn't feel very hot.

“A Xi, Ding Kuan, you guys are here after all!”

Yang Qi saw Wang Jinxi, Ding Kuan, and another Ship worker whose name he didn’t know, all sitting in the shade fishing.

“Hey! Yang Qi, you’re here!”

Wang Jinxi greeted Yang Qi while taking a cigarette.

“Yeah, I just woke up, finished eating, and came for a stroll.”

Yang Qi offered cigarettes to the other two and lit one himself.

“Until what time did these guys work last night? Why are so many people still sleeping?”

Yang Qi was a little curious.

“From last night until 8 AM today, the entire boat had a bite explosion. Didn’t you go back around 3:30? A not-so-small school of Sea Bass came after that.”

Wang Jinxi said,

“After 4:30, everyone on the boat went crazy; almost everyone filled their boxes.”

Ding Kuan added: “Several professional anglers with good skills caught about ten boxes each.”

“After the Sea Bass school dispersed, a large number of Skipjack Tuna and Barracuda arrived.”

“Basically, three-quarters of the anglers stayed until past 8 AM. They had breakfast before going to sleep. They probably won’t be able to fish before the first half of tonight.”

“Although they aren’t considered very valuable fish, the sheer quantity is enough to fill them up. Hahahaha.”

Wang Jinxi said with a laugh.

“Hmm, that’s really good. I guess they’re all dreaming sweet dreams now? Hahahaha.”

Yang Qi also laughed.

“So, did you guys fish this morning?”

“How could we have time to fish? We were too busy.”

Another Ship worker said with some regret.

“That’s a bit of a shame, indeed.”

Yang Qi understood that this was their job, and there was nothing they could do about it.

“It’s our turn to be on duty today, the three of us, so we came to see if we could still catch some fish. The situation is pretty good.”

Ding Kuan said, pointing to the fish basket placed at the very edge.

Yang Qi leaned over and saw that there was more than half a basket of fish. They were all Yellowfin Seabream weighing three to four catties, and a few Barracuda weighing seven to eight catties.

At this moment, Yang Qi suddenly noticed some unusual movement on the sea surface ahead and to the side.

It turned out to be a large school of Balang Fish fleeing ahead, followed by about ten Tuna preying on them.

Yang Qi immediately stood up, watching the direction the fish school was fleeing; it would inevitably pass in front of his fishing spot.

This was an opportunity not to be missed, as time would not return.

“There’s a fish school passing by over there; there might be giant creatures chasing them!”

Yang Qi pointed to the side and ahead, and immediately ran towards his fishing spot.

He had made it so obvious; if they didn't believe him, then he wouldn't bother with them.

Yang Qi quickly ran to his fishing spot, put a large Squid on the giant rod, and then cast it forcefully towards the path the fish school was bound to take.

Just as Yang Qi finished speaking and turned to leave, Wang Jinxi, out of trust in Yang Qi, hurriedly began to reel in his fishing line.

Ding Kuan and the other Ship worker, whether they believed Yang Qi's words or trusted Wang Jinxi, also sped up their reeling.

The three of them reeled in their lines while looking in the direction Yang Qi had just pointed, and indeed saw a slight difference in the sea surface there.

It looked a bit like water boiling. The amplitude wasn't very large, but if one observed carefully, it could still be seen.

The three of them secretly admired Yang Qi’s observation skills.

“No wonder he can catch what others can’t.”

Because Wang Jinxi was the first to reel in, he quickly finished reeling in his line, swiftly scooped up a six to seven-catty Skipjack Tuna from the fish basket, and ran towards Yang Qi’s vicinity.

Yang Qi had already put Squid on his fishing rig, forcefully cast it out, and first attached two buoys.

He then ran to Zhang Jun’s fishing spot, also put Squid on his fishing rig, threw it out, and likewise attached two buoys.

After thinking for a moment, he also put Squid on Zhang Jun’s giant rod and cast it towards the fish school.

The three of them ran over one after another, then each went to find a spot and cast their rods towards the fish school.

First to get a bite was Yang Qi’s fishing rig; the two buoys were instantly pulled underwater and disappeared. Yang Qi immediately attached two more buoys.

Then it was his giant rod. Yang Qi gripped the fishing rod with both hands and pulled back forcefully. In the scene, the hook fiercely pierced the fish’s mouth.

He loosened the drag a little; he couldn't manage it for now and could only let the rod and reel automatically absorb the Tuna’s momentum.
