170: Meeting Wang Jinxi again
Yang Qi and Zhang Jun boarded their final target fishing vessel for this voyage via a transfer boat.
It was a large 75-meter-long fishing vessel. The two of them, carrying their fishing gear and luggage, followed the other fishing enthusiasts who came on the same boat towards the rest cabin.
Yang Qi noticed that the outermost rooms must be the 'king-size bed rooms' Zhang Jun mentioned, as the doorplates only had two numbers.
They walked further in and found their room, which was a six-person bunk bed room. Each person had a locker with a corresponding number, and there was also a bathroom with a shower. The space was a little larger than the previous boat.
As soon as they finished stowing their luggage, Liu Yao's voice came from outside.
"Hey, Brother Jun, Yang Qi, we're here!"
It seemed he and Lu Hua had finally managed to switch their tickets. Following them were Wang Hu and Chang Jianqiang.
Great, all familiar faces!
"This guy is price gouging," Wang Hu said, pointing at Liu Yao and Zhang Jun as soon as he entered the door.
"Hehehe, oh! What's going on?" Zhang Jun was immediately interested.
"Those two guys kept refusing to switch, right? I gave them each a pack of Huazi cigarettes, and they agreed to switch."
Liu Yao said shamelessly.
In reality, not all people who go sea fishing are as wealthy as them. A considerable portion are professional fishing enthusiasts who come to earn money.
If switching a spot could earn them an extra pack of Huazi, why wouldn't they do it?
Indeed, money paves the way, invincible!
The six quickly put away their fishing gear and luggage, chatted for a few moments, and decided to go to the lounge to play cards. After all, the rooms here were very close to each other, and if they weren't sleeping, what if others wanted to?
They were all people of status; it wouldn't be good to disturb others' rest for playing cards, it wasn't worth it.
Yang Qi wasn't interested in playing cards and initially didn't want to go, but after thinking about it, a tour to familiarize himself with the place wouldn't hurt. So he leisurely followed the group towards the lounge.
The entrance led into what should be the dining area, with four or five tables. To the right was a kitchen, and on the door were eight large characters: "Kitchen is a vital area, no unauthorized entry."
Further inside, there was a row of sofas with a monitor in front, which should be for watching movies, as Yang Qi saw a player and a computer host.
Behind the sofas was a pool table, and in the innermost section, a room was partitioned off, from which came wailing sounds. Although not very loud, it was definitely disturbing.
Next to it was a counter selling drinks; there weren't many types of alcohol, mainly beverages. Thinking about it, it made sense, after all, it was on a boat, and if one got drunk and went fishing, it would be too dangerous.
Yang Qi guessed that the speakers of these low-quality audio systems must be facing outwards, otherwise the sound would be even louder. Even with such a design, he felt that the movie-watching experience here would be very poor.
There are always some people, especially some high-level leaders, who have a mysterious confidence in their singing. Even if they are tone-deaf and off-key by eight hundred miles, they fall deeper and deeper into it, unable to extricate themselves, thanks to the insincere flattery of certain individuals.
Yang Qi listened for a while, and based on the degree of off-key singing, he estimated that the person inside was at least a division-level cadre or department head.
He might as well go watch Zhang Jun play cards.
Zhang Jun, Liu Yao, Wang Hu, and Chang Jianqiang sat around a table, cigarettes dangling from their lips. Their hands gripped the mahjong tiles, occasionally spouting a few playful remarks, looking every bit like gambling gods.
Lu Hua sat nearby, observing the game, occasionally interjecting a few words, and pouring tea and water for the others, adopting the demeanor of a junior.
Seeing Yang Qi approach, he even made him a cup of tea.
"Thank you, A Hua, I'll do it myself, I'll do it myself!"
Yang Qi hastily took the cup, thanking him repeatedly.
The two sat nearby and exchanged a few quiet words. Yang Qi learned that Lu Hua had just returned from out of town last year and had only recently started fishing. Since Liu Yao and the others enjoyed fishing, he also wanted to integrate into the circle, so he had to learn how to fish.
After sitting for a while, Yang Qi bid farewell to everyone and went back to sleep. If the boat hadn't still been sailing in coastal waters, he would have gone fishing.
This trip out to sea was a bit rushed; he had forgotten to download some movies and novels. He could only watch the previously downloaded 'Man vs. Wild'.
He had watched it several times, and Yang Qi felt that even if he were thrown into the wilderness now, he could survive several episodes alone.
Lost in thought, he didn't know when he fell asleep.
When he woke up, he found it was almost nine o'clock. He didn't know when those guys had gone to sleep, but now snores were rising and falling.
Yang Qi got up, washed, and quietly walked out of the rest cabin into the lounge, where he found breakfast already prepared: seafood congee, plain congee, fried noodles, fried rice, steamed buns, and baozi.
It was all self-service; help yourself, and you'll have plenty.
Yang Qi had two bowls of seafood congee, three steamed buns, and one baozi before finishing breakfast. He then went to the deck to walk around and find his fishing spot.
As he turned to the stern deck, he unexpectedly ran into a familiar face, "Hey, Jinxi, it really is you!"
Meeting an old acquaintance again, Yang Qi was also very happy and greeted Wang Jinxi loudly.
Wang Jinxi was trolling on the stern deck with several crewmen when he suddenly heard someone call his name. He turned his head and saw it was Yang Qi.
Although a long time had passed since they last met, Wang Jinxi still had a deep impression of Yang Qi, whose fishing skills were outstanding.
"Hey, Boss Yang Qi, you're also out at sea this time!"
It was clear that Wang Jinxi was also very happy to see Yang Qi. He quickly stood up to greet him.
Yang Qi took out a cigarette, offered one to everyone, and then asked, "A Xi, how did you end up on this boat?"
"The previous boat changed captains, and the new captain has his own crew, so I came to this boat," Wang Jinxi said with a sigh, puffing on his cigarette.
In fact, the crewmen on these fishing boats are all temporary workers; the boss can dismiss them at will, with no security.
They were taking advantage of the bosses resting to fish. These catches were their own extra earnings.
Yang Qi saw that there were already three or four Barracuda, each weighing over ten catties, in the fish boxes behind these crewmen.
"Boss Yang Qi, would you like to cast a few lines too?" Wang Jinxi felt awkward letting Yang Qi sit idly.
Yang Qi waved his hand, refusing, "No need, I won't fish, you guys fish."
He genuinely had no interest in these Barracuda now. Besides their large size and strong fight, they had no other advantages; their meat was tough and not tasty, and most importantly, the price was too cheap.
How could I, a cheater, bend for Barracuda? It would be embarrassing to even say it!
Besides, if he were to cast a line, these crewmen definitely couldn't fish, as he had paid for his spot.
Yang Qi knew the hardships of these crewmen; their time to earn extra money was not abundant. He no longer cared for these fish, unlike his last trip out to sea, when he would fish for anything he could catch, to sell as much as possible... PS: Fellow readers, please help boost the data!
