250: Coral Reef Fishing
Yang Qi used his Golden Finger to find a suitable spot for fishing.
The water depth at this location was about 20 meters, surrounded by seaweed and coral reefs, with a small basin-like area in the middle, making it a very secluded and natural shelter.
There were many fish, but their individual sizes were not very large.
The largest was no more than seven or eight jin, with most being various fish species weighing one to three jin, and quite a few small fry.
The two switched to smaller rods and reels. Yang Qi took out a fish lure cage, filled it with antarctic shrimp, and lowered it to chum the spot. He also lowered a waterproof spotlight.
One was to attract fish, and the other was so Bai Xue could also see the situation underwater.
After all, it was rare to fish in such shallow waters.
As far as Yang Qi's eyes could see, fish hiding in the crevices of the surrounding coral reefs slowly swam out.
Two sabiki rigs were tied to the fishing rod. Although the small rod offered good feel, it was too soft, so two hooks were just right. Too heavy would feel like a mouse pulling a shovel.
If he used a boat rod, these fish would be too small, offering no feel.
The two baited their hooks with Shrimp. As soon as the hooks sank among the fish school at the bottom, several small fish immediately came to snatch the bait.
Yang Qi's first cast brought up two white-tailed Groupers, each weighing about two jin, which were very beautiful.
Also known as the Tail-Stripe Nine-Spine Grouper, Neon Grouper, Passing Fish, Pearl Grouper, etc., its body color is variable, with the front half often bright red and the tail having two white "V" shaped stripes.
Its body length can reach over 20 centimeters, with a large head and wide mouth.
Overall, the white-tailed Grouper's appearance was still very striking.
By the time Yang Qi carefully removed the fish, placed them in the live fish tank, and prepared for his second cast,
the situation at the bottom of the sea startled him. In just a few minutes of catching and removing fish, many species had been attracted out of the coral reef area by the light and antarctic shrimp.
There were Four-Stripe Snappers, Many-Banded Goatfish, Clownfish, and other brightly colored coral ornamental fish species.
There were also some very strikingly colored Groupers.
The two caught fish with every cast. Because the light was on underwater, combined with the clear water and shallow depth,
not to mention Yang Qi with his Golden Finger, even Bai Xue could clearly see the fish biting the hooks on the seabed.
As soon as they saw a fish bite, they would raise their rods to set the hook and quickly reel in, basically pulling the fish out of the water in less than a minute.
"These fish are so beautiful!"
Even though many fish were duplicates of those they had caught while diving, neither of them showed any dislike.
Yang Qi tried to present his bait near the mouths of Groupers, so most of his catches were Groupers.
Among them were some very valuable species, usually rare in the East Sea, which they also caught quite a few of, such as East Star Grouper, Mouse Grouper, Red Grouper, Black Grouper, Yellow Grouper, and Swallowtail Grouper.
They also caught many other more common Groupers, such as Sesame Grouper, Money Spot Grouper, Strawberry Grouper, Green Grouper, and Tiger Grouper.
These were all small Groupers, mostly weighing less than two jin, and some even only a few liang.
The total number should exceed two hundred, and it was fortunate that the fish were small and they often caught two at a time, allowing them to catch so many.
Some inexpensive small snappers, clownfish, and butterflyfish, as long as they looked good, were thrown into his live fish tank.
It was also fortunate that the water depth here did not exceed 20 meters, and even the later fishing spots were less than 10 meters deep, so these small Groupers were still very lively after being caught.
At this point, the advantage of the soft rod and small hook became apparent; basically, none of the fish were torn at the mouth, perfectly preserving their appearance.
The ornamental fish caught would certainly be placed with the ornamental fish collected by diving. If they were placed with the Groupers, it would be like throwing meat buns to dogs.
The two tidied up and prepared to rest, but while showering, sparks flew again.
Seeing no other boats anchored around, the two turned off the boat's lights and began their passionate struggle.
Since there was no one around, the two young people cast aside their physical and mental restraints, unwilling to return to the cramped rest cabin.
At that moment, the entire world was theirs.
Thus, the bow, deck, stairs, and flybridge became battlegrounds everywhere.
Cheers and shouts rose and fell, leaving the scent of youth everywhere.
That night, Yang Qi repeatedly failed and repeatedly fought, until he truly had no more fighting strength. The two finally shook hands in reconciliation and returned to the rest cabin to sleep soundly.
The next morning at ten o'clock, as the weary Yang Qi looked at the vibrant Bai Xue preparing food for him, he secretly sighed:
"The story of the ox and the field is indeed true!"
Bai Xue piloted the setting sail back to the deep water area, preparing to fish for large species.
They hadn't caught any proper big fish on this outing yet, which left them both a bit disappointed. However, there was nothing they could do; catching big fish still required a lot of luck.
At this moment, in the cockpit of the setting sail, Bai Xue was piloting the fishing boat and pointed at a boat ahead, asking:
"Husband, did the people on that boat catch a big fish?"
Yang Qi picked up his binoculars to check and happened to see an Anglers on that boat pulling up a Yellowfin Tuna weighing seventy or eighty jin.
"Hmm, they caught a Yellowfin Tuna!"
Yang Qi said while watching,
"Let's get closer, maintaining a safe distance. See if we can pick up any scraps."
"Okay."
Bai Xue immediately turned the rudder and headed in that direction.
Yang Qi ran to the gunwale and began assembling a heavy-duty boat rod with a large drum reel. Then he ran to the freezer to move out the miscellaneous fish and started chopping them into pieces.
He called Bai Xue to stop when they were two nautical miles from the fishing boat.
He had already seen some mackerel schools fleeing in their direction.
The two tacitly threw fish chunks into the sea, and two bait trails quickly formed.
They picked up palm-sized fish hooks, baited them with Skipjack Tuna weighing four or five jin, and cast them into the sea, hoping for a fated fish.
Yang Qi thought for a moment, then took out a newly bought fishing line, baited it with a Mahi-Mahi about sixty centimeters long, and threw it into the sea.
Before long, several Tuna appeared in the supernatural vision, chasing and feeding on the mackerel school.
Someone on the opposite fishing boat hooked a fish and was shouting loudly, which could be vaguely heard even from two nautical miles away.
Soon, more and more Tuna appeared in the vision. The first to hook a fish was Bai Xue's heavy-duty boat fishing rod.
As the rod bent, Bai Xue gripped it tightly with both hands, lifting it to set the hook. After ten seconds, Bai Xue couldn't withstand the Tuna's charge.
She quickly lowered the rod and loosened the drag a bit, letting the fish run with the line for a while. This was definitely not the time to fight it head-on.
It must be said that Bai Xue was now very experienced in catching big fish, able to make the most correct choices at the most appropriate times.
While Bai Xue hadn't yet relieved the Tuna's first burst of power, Yang Qi also hooked a fish.
