384: Another treasure
As Yang Qi gently pushed the door open, the creatures in the corridor began scurrying wildly. Some ran inside, but more near the doorway ran outside.
Several sea fish, desperate for an escape, crashed into him. Fortunately, the fish weren't very large, so he wasn't injured.
The first Rest Cabin usually belonged to the captain, and Yang Qi had some expectations for it. He took out his entrenching shovel, pried the door for a bit, and then kicked it twice before forcing it open.
Unexpectedly, the first sight upon entering made his heart pound faster.
He saw a skeleton lying on the bed. There was a hole in the skull, and faintly visible next to the hand bones was a heavily rusted pistol.
Having watched films about the War of Resistance Against japanese Aggression, Yang Qi immediately recognized it as a Nambu Pistol. Confirmed: this was a japanese person.
This was the ship's captain, and it looked like he had shot himself when the ship sank.
"Damn, it really is a japanese ship! Then I won't hold back!"
Yang Qi's mood instantly brightened.
There was a desk nearby, perhaps the captain's office desk previously, but due to the passage of time and seawater erosion, nothing remained on it.
Yang Qi opened a drawer on the desk and found several small black boxes inside. When he grabbed them, he realized they were probably rubber. Opening one, it revealed something glittering gold inside.
It turned out to be a Gold Watch, looking as good as new. Yang Qi immediately understood: these rubber boxes must have been military supplies used during World War II to store valuables for high-ranking officers.
There was no need to open the other boxes now; they were likely similar.
Next, Yang Qi found a chest next to the wardrobe containing over a dozen Gold Bars and two gold bricks, but most of the contents were a paste-like substance.
Yang Qi guessed that it must have been banknotes or some kind of paper documents.
Inside the large leather chest was a small wooden box, about the size of A4 Paper, and quite heavy.
Next to the leather chest was a stick-like object, heavily rusted. Yang Qi looked closely and determined it was likely a japanese Officer's Sword.
Yang Qi wasn't interested in this thing and didn't look at it again. Perhaps if taken back, it might reveal the captain's identity and background.
But who cares! He wasn't interested! He wasn't an Archaeologist!
Yang Qi moved the small box, the Gold Watch, the gold bricks, and the Gold Bars to the Cockpit in two trips, preparing to take them when he left.
Next, he roughly checked the dozen or so rooms but found no major gains, only some gold and silver jewelry and Gold Bars.
Finally, he found a jar and put all these miscellaneous small items inside. Then he took it to the Cockpit.
In fact, he also found some rifles, but he hadn't specially studied firearms, and they were too badly rusted to tell what kind of guns they were.
Since it was confirmed to be a japanese vessel, he didn't linger in the Rest Cabin and went straight to the Cargo Hold.
If there were truly large quantities of goods, they should be there!
Perhaps the ship was already leaking then, and the captain, in a hurry, ordered the crew to throw gold bricks into the sea, attempting to reduce the load and speed up or for some other reason.
In any case, when Yang Qi arrived at the Cargo Hold, the door was also ajar. This time, he was prepared. After he heavily knocked on the door frame several times with his entrenching shovel, sure enough, many fish darted out.
Many fish also escaped through the hole.
"Holy crap! What the hell?"
Yang Qi suddenly noticed a large Grouper charging towards him with its mouth wide open, about to reach him.
He made a quick decision, put down the entrenching shovel, swiftly pulled out his Speargun, instinctively stepped aside, and fired a shot.
The Speargun rapidly fired, leaving a stream of bubbles, and with a "swoosh," it pierced the fish, immediately shooting through its head.
Looking at the Grouper, whose head was thicker than his waist, he estimated it weighed at least 150 catty. After being shot, it struggled and thrashed for more than two minutes before finally lying still.
Yang Qi touched his chest, feeling a wave of fear; if that thing had hit him, he would have suffered a fracture at best, or death at worst.
"Son of a bitch! Luckily, I reacted fast. Otherwise, if I, a professional Angler, died by a fish's mouth, it wouldn't sound good when word got out! Damn!"
After cursing the dead fish, Yang Qi began surveying the cabin situation, noticing that most of the area near the door of the cabin was currently empty.
"That shouldn't be right! Why would they throw away gold when the cabin is so empty?"
Thinking and observing, he quickly realized this area must have stored grain. He found some fibrous material, like sacks, in the corner of the floor.
"The grain must have rotted or been eaten by fish, especially since the japanese homeland was also short on food in the later stages of World War II."
"You know, most men had gone out to invade other countries, so domestic food supplies must have been scarce. This grain was probably stolen from other countries and prepared for shipment back to the homeland."
"Those damn japanese! You actually threw away gold just to transport grain! Are you sick in the head?! You made me happy for nothing! Damn!"
Looking at the empty space, Yang Qi cursed vehemently in his heart.
So he walked toward the back of the cabin to see if he could find anything else. They couldn't have been so brain-dead as to throw all the valuable things into the ocean, right?
Sure enough, when he reached the back half of the cabin, he found a pile of boxes. Before, they were too far away, and the boxes were covered with a thick layer of buildup—perhaps algae, silt, or residue from those rotten sacks.
Yang Qi felt that none of that mattered; what mattered was that he had finally discovered the boxes.
He walked over and randomly opened one box; it contained gold bricks. Immediately after, he randomly opened three more boxes in different spots.
He found that one box contained gold and silver jewelry, one box contained Gems, and the last box was surprisingly empty.
Yang Qi paused, looked at the residue at the bottom of the box, and immediately realized. This box must have originally contained paper or silk Treasures.
These Treasures were originally safe in their home country, but they were looted by robbers, sank to the bottom of the sea, and were completely eroded by the seawater.
Yang Qi roughly counted, estimating there were still over sixty boxes.
Holy crap, you really don't know until you count—and when you count, you get a shock!
Yang Qi really wanted to smoke a cigarette to calm his nerves right now, but unfortunately, he was currently underwater, and conditions didn't allow it.
It took about two or three minutes for his wildly pounding heart to slowly calm down. Damn, his heart rate must have exceeded 180 just now; it almost killed him.
Yang Qi swallowed, realizing he had been underwater for too long and needed to return, or Bai Xue would be terribly worried.
