200: Giant manta ray
"A Xi, help me process the catch first! There aren't many anglers fishing right now, so go find a spot to fish."
"Sneak into the village, no shooting!"
Yang Qi said to Wang Jinxi.
He also hoped that Wang Jinxi could earn more money; as long as there weren't many people fishing, they could fish anywhere.
Give a rose, and your hand retains its fragrance.
Wang Jinxi nodded, indicating he understood. He wasn't a fool and knew it was best not to make a fuss.
He took the zip ties from behind Yang Qi and processed his catch, sending fish that needed to be alive to the live fish tank and those that needed to be frozen to the freezer.
Then he found an empty spot and started fishing. Based on his experience and the fish Yang Qi had caught, he immediately knew which water layer to target.
When there are valuable fish species to catch, who would want to catch cheap ones?
Sure enough, about ten minutes later, Wang Jinxi also started catching fish, beginning with a Sesame Grouper, which was a very good start.
Following that, his luck continued, and he kept catching fish. In just over an hour, he had caught more than half a box of fish.
He thought that Yang Qi shouldn't have caught less than him, and when he went to check, sure enough, Yang Qi's box was almost full again.
"A Xi, how's it going over there? How much have you caught?" Yang Qi asked.
"Very good, more than half a box! Thank you, Yang Qi!"
Wang Jinxi thanked him sincerely.
"Don't mention it with me!" Yang Qi said.
Wang Jinxi talked to Yang Qi while his hands kept working.
He needed to process Yang Qi's catch first before going back to make more money.
The water here was 300 meters deep, and Yang Qi wasn't constantly using his ability; he only activated it occasionally to observe.
Anyway, the fish species he had caught recently were all pretty good, so what more could he ask for?
Yang Qi continued fishing for another hour, during which Wang Jinxi came over and helped him move his catch again.
This time, just as he slowly pulled a Red Grouper to the surface, he saw the tip of another fishing rod twitch a few times.
He quickly removed the Red Grouper, placed it in the live fish tank, re-baited his hook, and cast it back into the sea.
He then saw the rod tip twitch a few more times. Judging by the movement, it shouldn't be a big one. He thought for a moment and decided to reel it in and replace the live bait.
He lifted the fishing rod and reeled the line, preparing to retrieve it. Unexpectedly, after only one turn, it wouldn't budge.
"Holy crap, did I get snagged?"
Yang Qi's face darkened. He took two steps to the side and pulled the rod up hard, trying to see if he could retrieve the fishing line. He pulled up and down several times.
Suddenly, a pulling force came from the fishing line, the rod was pulled down, and after about a meter of line, it stopped moving again.
"Hmm, I've caught a big fish, is it stuck?"
Yang Qi's heart leaped with joy. The fact that the line could move proved he had caught a fish, and its immense strength indicated it was a big one.
He hugged the fishing rod and pulled up again, feeling the sensation of the hook piercing the fish's flesh, distinct from the hook getting snagged on the seabed.
"It must be stuck. I hope the big fish doesn't run into a reef hole and snap the line."
Yang Qi decided to fight the big fish manually and pull it out of the seabed first.
He reinserted the fishing rod into the rod holder, turned around, and took out a fighting belt from his tackle bag, tying it around his waist.
Then he pulled the rod, sometimes to the left, sometimes to the right.
Just then, Wang Jinxi finished putting away his own catch and came over to help Yang Qi process his fish.
"Holy crap, Yang Qi, did you get snagged on the Earth, or is it stuck?"
Wang Jinxi asked curiously.
"A Xi, it's stuck. I clearly felt it come up a bit just now, but it might have pulled back down after feeling pain," Yang Qi said, turning to Wang Jinxi.
"You hold on for a bit. I'll process the fish you've caught first, then I'll come help you," Wang Jinxi said while organizing Yang Qi's catch.
Five or six minutes later, he returned with his own fishing rod, apparently not planning to fish anymore.
Perhaps he didn't know how long Yang Qi would need. What if the person at that fishing spot came out to fish and discovered his rod, causing unpleasantness?
"How's it going? Should I take over?"
Wang Jinxi asked.
"Still not moving an inch, you take it!"
Yang Qi didn't feel embarrassed at all and handed the fishing rod to Wang Jinxi, who had just put on his fighting belt.
He put the fishing rod into the fighting belt, pulled it up forcefully a few times, then moved it left and right a few times.
Finally, he tightened the fishing line and slapped the end of the rod three times with one hand.
The big fish at the bottom of the sea, in pain, left the seabed and started moving. About ten seconds later, it was slowly pulled away from the seabed along the fishing line.
Wang Jinxi bent down and lowered the fishing rod, turning the reel twice with his left hand. Each turn of this reel pulled in one meter of fishing line.
Immediately after, he straightened his back and lifted the rod, pulling with both hands. The moment the big fish at the bottom of the sea was pulled away from the seabed, Yang Qi clearly saw the fishing rod spring up a bit.
Wang Jinxi was caught off guard and stumbled backward a step.
After regaining his footing, he resumed his strong assault on the big fish, reeling in and pulling the rod, reeling in and pulling the rod, attacking rapidly several times.
"It's coming up, it's definitely a giant!"
Wang Jinxi said to Yang Qi, with a tone of having fulfilled his mission.
"The struggle isn't too strong, so it shouldn't be a big Grouper. It's hard to say what kind of fish it is, we'll know when it's reeled in," Wang Jinxi said, a little breathless, after the fishing line had been retrieved about ten meters.
When fishing for big fish, encountering a big fish that's stuck, the most difficult part is actually pulling the fish away from the seabed during that initial period.
Just having strength isn't enough; experience and technique are most important.
Now Wang Jinxi had helped Yang Qi solve this most crucial first step. The rest would be much simpler.
"I've never encountered this kind of struggle or strength before. I guess it's a fish species I've never caught."
"Here, Yang Qi, you take over."
Yang Qi naturally took the fishing rod from Wang Jinxi's hand.
In fact, Yang Qi already knew that underwater, it was a giant Devil Fish.
Devil Fish, scientifically known as Manta Ray, is a collective term for a dozen or so marine fish species of the Manta Ray family within the Myliobatiformes order. It is a close relative of sharks.
Its body is flat, its snout wide and horizontal, and its tail slender like a whip. In front of its head, there are two prominent cephalic fins that have differentiated from its pectoral fins, resembling the horns on a "devil's" head, which is why people also call it "Devil Fish."
Manta Ray gets its name because its swimming posture resembles that of bats flying at night.
Adult Manta Ray can reach up to 7 meters in length and weigh over 1,000 catties.
Manta Ray do not lay eggs; they are ovoviviparous, which is very rare among fish, and they only give birth to one offspring at a time.
The probability of twins is much lower than in humans.
A baby Manta Ray weighs over 40 catties and is about 1 meter long at birth. People unfamiliar with this fish might mistake it for a large fish upon first sight. In reality, it is just a newborn baby.
As Yang Qi reeled in the line, finally, a Devil Fish the size of a large round table was pulled out of the sea.
"Holy crap, what a huge Devil Fish!"
Wang Jinxi also exclaimed in surprise.
"Is this thing a protected animal? I don't seem to have seen anyone selling this fish!"
Yang Qi asked Wang Jinxi.
