345: I heard that the mullet feeding season has arrived.

The next morning, Yang Qi received a call from Zhang Jun, saying that the river at the estuary was overflowing with Mullet, and someone had caught over a hundred jin last night.

They were already heading over there and told Yang Qi to hurry up.

Mullet, also known as "Black Head," has a spindle-shaped body with a wide, flat top of the head that looks V-shaped when viewed from the front.

The body color is silvery-white or milky-white, with a blue-brown back.

The entire body is slightly cylindrical and somewhat resembles a Grass Carp or a freshwater chub.

Due to its high yield, it is an important coastal economic fish in subtropical and tropical regions.

They are migratory fish that usually appear in schools, making them common small fish in estuaries, mangroves, and shallow bay areas.

The technology for farming Mullet in China's coastal areas is quite mature, and it is widely farmed. Its meat is delicious; the female ovaries can be made into Mullet roe, and the male testes, called Mullet milt, have medicinal value.

Depending on the size, the market price ranges between 20 and 80 yuan. It can be considered a relatively affordable fish for the common people.

Actually, none of this matters to the Anglers. To them, the most attractive thing about Mullet is its incredible pulling power.

A one-jin Mullet has even more pulling power than a five-jin Carp.

Plus, during the Mullet feeding frenzy, they appear in schools in the estuary rivers—that is, the rivers where saltwater and freshwater meet.

And in these places, you don't even need a boat; you can fish at any time.

Just ask yourself, as an Angler, are you interested or not!

After finishing breakfast, Yang Qi greeted Bai Xue and the others, explaining that he wouldn't be going out to sea with them today.

He loaded his platform fishing gear into the bed of his dodge ram and sped off, following the location Zhang Jun sent.

"Holy crap, there are so many people!"

When he drove his pickup onto the sea embankment dam, he saw that from the estuary sluice gate onwards, both sides of the river were densely packed with Anglers.

From the sluice gate to Zhang Jun's location was about 3 kilometers. The embankment was filled with parked cars. Yang Qi drove around and discovered that the Anglers were sitting along the river for up to five kilometers.

The Anglers on the riverbank were right next to each other, with only a meter or so, less than two meters, between each fishing spot.

Yang Qi's head was spinning. How the hell was he supposed to fish like this!

There was no other way, and he really couldn't find a parking space nearby. He had to call Zhang Jun. Fortunately, Zhang Jun said he had already saved a spot for him; otherwise, he might not have wanted to fish at all.

In the end, Zhang Jun and Liu Yao had to come over to help him move his gear, while he had to park his car 4 kilometers away and walk back.

Too difficult!

Once he got down to the fishing spot, he learned that even though Zhang Jun and the others had arrived early this morning, the fishing spots for the first three kilometers were already taken.

He only got this spot because Liu Yao had brought two fishing platforms, so he managed to save one for him.

After asking around, he found out that some people had come to claim their spots before dawn, and some hadn't even moved for two days.

They were a bunch of dedicated Anglers! Yang Qi felt a sense of respect and sighed at his own inferiority!

"Any luck?"

Yang Qi handed each of them a cigarette and asked.

"We've been preparing the whole time, just cast our lines!"

Liu Yao replied without turning his head, his eyes fixed on the float.

"This guy is acting like there's actually a bite!"

Yang Qi rolled his eyes and muttered to himself.

"What length rod, and how are you fishing?"

"Mullet will come to the shore, 3.9 meters is enough. Fish a bit sensitively."

Zhang Jun exhaled a puff of smoke and replied.

"Brother Jun, any bites?"

"Uh~ I think there was a bite just now, but I missed it."

As soon as Yang Qi heard that, he knew they had been fishing for over an hour and still hadn't had a bite.

"Well, since I'm here, I have to fish!"

He immediately assembled a 3.9-meter fishing rod. Just as he was preparing to mix some powdered bait, Zhang Jun spoke up:

"You don't need to mix bait; just use mine. I added a lot of shrimp powder and algae bait, which Mullet love. I consulted an expert on this recipe; it's bound to work."

Yang Qi nodded and took the bait basin he handed over.

"Whoa, did you mix this much? Are you planning to fish like crazy?"

He looked at the large lump of bait in his basin, and the large lump of bait in front of Zhang Jun, and muttered to himself.

"Throw in some seaweed pellets; I have some in that bag."

Zhang Jun pointed to a plastic bag behind him. Yang Qi went over to look and saw there were still a dozen or so packs left.

He didn't stand on ceremony, grabbed a bag, and "swish, swish, swish" dumped half of it in.

"That's all? Throw some more in."

"Uh... let's test the waters first, I'll add more later."

Yang Qi had already checked underwater and really couldn't bring himself to do it. Because in his Supernatural Ability vision, there wasn't a single fish nearby, just a few small Crabs that were barely larger than a coin, crawling around.

An hour later, everyone was still empty-handed. The fishing floats hadn't even moved once.

"Brother Jun, what time is best for fish bites here?"

"I asked around, and they said there's a wave in the morning and a wave in the evening."

Zhang Jun also said, staring intently at the float without blinking.

"Then has the morning wave already passed? Does that mean we have to sit here like idiots until the evening wave!"

Yang Qi stood up and looked at the endless line of Anglers.

"No other way, if we don't wait, we'll lose our spot. Maybe the fish will start biting soon? Isn't this normal?"

Liu Yao added from the side, matter-of-factly.

"Uh... alright then!"

Yang Qi had nothing to say.

Just when he was so bored he was about to scratch the skin off the back of his hands, he suddenly heard Liu Yao's excited voice.

"Fish on!"

Everyone's attention was immediately drawn to him. As he lifted his rod, a finger-length goby dangled from the hook, swaying on the fishing line.

"Uh... there was a sudden black float, I got excited!"

Liu Yao scratched his head and said, feeling a bit embarrassed.

"It's fine, at worst, you are currently the 'River Champion' among the dozen or so Anglers around us! We're all still empty-handed!"

Yang Qi teased.

"Yeah, Brother Yao, since you're the River Champion, you're treating us to lunch."

Lu Hua also laughed.

"Alright, no problem, I'll go buy food in a bit."

Time slipped away inadvertently amidst their chatter and laughter.

"It's ten-thirty, I'm going to buy lunch. Damn it, the fish aren't eating, but we have to eat!"

Liu Yao looked at the time, cursed, and got up to walk toward the embankment.

It wasn't until nearly twelve o'clock that Liu Yao returned carrying several large bags, complaining constantly that there wasn't a single restaurant nearby, forcing him to run a long way just to get some dishes stir-fried.

As it happened, Yang Qi's fishing platform wasn't in the water, so when assembled, it served as a dining table. The five of them gathered around the fishing platform to eat lunch.

While eating, they complained about whether they had been lied to. They had all heard that the Mullet feeding frenzy had arrived, yet the five of them had fished all morning and hadn't even seen a hair of one.

It wasn't just the five of them who hadn't caught anything; the dozen or so Anglers nearby had all "laid a goose egg," and the River Champion remained Liu Yao.
