315: First fishing trip in Qiandao Lake
The three of them drove another five kilometers along the lakeside road, turned right through the roadside artificial forest, and the dodge ram easily reached the lakeshore.
This route seemed to be used by many people; the ruts on the bank were crisscrossed, likely left behind by Anglers.
As the saying goes, "There were no roads in the world, they only became roads after Anglers walked them enough!"
Sure enough, down by the lake, there were six or seven Anglers fishing by the water.
Yang Qi drove another few hundred meters along the shore, chose a flat, solid, and wooded clearing, and stopped the car.
The three of them got out of the car and carried their fishing platform, chairs, gear, and other supplies to the water's edge.
Yang Qi activated his Supernatural Ability to check the fish situation underwater; the scene included Carp, black Carp, Silver Carp, Crucian carp, Topmouth Culter, Grass Carp, flatfish, bighead Carp, and other freshwater fish.
Of course, there were also river shrimp, snails, mussels, and other river delicacies.
Yang Qi was startled as he looked at the rich resources underwater. This really far exceeded his expectations.
The three of them busily assembled the fishing platform and set up the fishing chairs.
Yang Qi took out a basin and poured in 'Speed Attack', '918', and 'Blue Crucian Youth Edition' bait, half a bag of each, with a one-to-one ratio of bait to water.
"Swish, swish, swish," he stirred it all up and let it sit for five minutes.
He took out a 6.3-meter hand rod, rigged the line, and started finding the bottom and adjusting the float.
For the past two nights, the three of them had been constantly watching videos, learning how to adjust floats for Taiwan-style fishing.
They finally got it right: adjusting for five, fishing at two—absolutely perfect!
Next was chumming the water; he mixed fermented five-grain bait with wine-soaked rice and threw it into the spot as if it cost nothing.
Yang Qi confidently cast his line into the water, waiting for a bite.
After helping Bai Xue and Yao Shanshan set their spots, he returned to his fishing position, lit a cigarette, crossed his legs, and sat waiting for the fish to bite.
Before Yao Shanshan could even cast her hook into the water, Yang Qi suddenly saw a big black float movement.
He hurriedly grabbed the rod and jerked it upward to hook the fish, nearly snapping the rod in the process.
It turned out to be a finger-length goby, which had just experienced the feeling of flight.
Yang Qi's face darkened; he turned to see Bai Xue and Yao Shanshan both watching him, so he helplessly held up the little fish to show them.
"Giggle, giggle, giggle!"
The loud laughter of the two women reached his ears.
"Mockery! This is naked mockery!"
Yang Qi rubbed his nose sheepishly.
"What should I do? It's the first fish of the day! Should I release it or not?"
This thing was just like catching a pufferfish while sea fishing; if you released it, it would come back to bite the hook in a few minutes.
Its memory definitely wasn't seven seconds; don't look at it still being on the hook now—it might be thinking about which angle to approach the bait from in a moment.
Yang Qi got up from the fishing platform, dug a small water pit by the shore, threw the thing into the pit, and thought he would release it later.
In the metaphysics of Anglers, you cannot let the first fish of the day escape or release it.
"Hubby, why are you keeping this thing?"
Bai Xue asked as she watched Yang Qi keeping the goby in the small water pit.
"My bait isn't that easy to eat; whatever fish it is, I'll imprison it for a few hours first."
Yang Qi joked.
Like that, Yang Qi fished for two hours, and the fish he caught were either gobies or small Sharpbelly.
He threw all the fish he caught into the small water pit; they had no qualifications to enter the fish keep-net.
At this moment, two more Anglers arrived and set up their spot not far from him.
"Brother, how is it? Any bites?"
The two men asked.
"Just arrived!"
After a few seconds, Yang Qi answered, baring his teeth without looking up.
Throughout the afternoon, Yang Qi didn't know if it was because he had chummed too much or if the fish here were bullying him, an outsider.
Aside from Sharpbelly and gobies, no other fish took the bait.
Bai Xue and Yao Shanshan, however, managed to catch four or five small Crucian carp weighing two or three taels.
"Nickname, it's time to go back, let's go!"
"Alright, one last cast, then we leave."
The two Anglers nearby were talking. The one who had greeted Yang Qi earlier replied.
"Okay, then I'll wait for you to finish this cast."
"Hmm."
After Nickname finished speaking, he pulled up the fishing line, re-baited it with a kernel of corn, and cast it toward the spot.
Yang Qi wasn't in a hurry anyway; they were staying here for the night, so he unhooked a goby and threw it into the small water pit.
By the time he caught two more small Sharpbelly and three more gobies, he noticed that the guy called Nickname was still motionless.
When he said one last cast, he meant it; ever since casting into the water, he really hadn't lifted his rod.
"Your 'one last cast' is really..."
The other Angler finally couldn't help himself and started nagging.
"Don't be impatient; I said one last cast, so it's one last cast. Look, the float is moving."
No sooner had he finished speaking than the float suddenly went black. Nickname gripped the rod with both hands and jerked it upward, and the "whoosh" sound of the line cutting through the water immediately rang out.
The rod was instantly bent into a deep arc. Yang Qi looked over; it was a large Carp weighing thirteen or fourteen jin.
"Holy crap, you really waited for a big fish. Do you have a Landing Net?"
"I didn't bring one, what about you?"
Nickname grinned, revealing a long-lost smile.
"I didn't bring one either! Who knew I'd catch a big fish? I'll go ask that brother to borrow one."
The other Angler walked toward Yang Qi:
"Brother, lend me your Landing Net for a second."
"Take it yourself!"
Yang Qi rubbed his nose, feeling a bit awkward. Damn it, he hadn't even caught a single decent fish.
There were clearly plenty of fish at the bottom, so why weren't they biting? Only this Nickname had such good luck.
The other Angler started assembling the Landing Net, while Nickname grinned and thought to himself:
"This is the biggest fish I've caught in my fishing career; I must treat it seriously. Once I land this fish, I'm definitely going to carry it and walk around the residential complex three times."
"Let you keep saying I can't catch big fish. I'll make you drool to death!"
"Oh ho!"
"Oh ho!"
The other Anglers started jeering.
Even Yang Qi couldn't help but secretly shout:
"Oh ho! Broken line, snapped rod, lost fish. Oh ho!"
"Crack! Snap!"
"Oh ho!"
The rod snapped! ...
"Smack!"
A crisp and loud sound of a thigh being slapped came over; Nickname's thigh swelled up at a speed visible to the naked eye!
"Holy crap, are you kidding me?"
Nickname looked at the butt section of the fishing rod in his hand,
"This cast doesn't count; I'll cast again. This time, I absolutely can't let it get away."
"You..."
"Forget it, you go home first; I'm not leaving. I'll stay up all night if I have to, but I'm going to land it. Damn it!"
After speaking, he ran to his gear bag, took out another fishing rod, and this time, he attached a safety tether immediately.
"You go home first!"
"I have things to do tonight and can't come; how can you be here alone? Let's just go together!"
The other Angler advised.
"How am I alone? Aren't these handsome guys and beauties all here?"
