39: Cuttlefish fishing
Only Yang Qi looked at the time and saw it was still early. Although he was a bit tired, he was far from his limit.
Indeed, Yang Qi's body had been greatly enhanced after acquiring his ability.
Therefore, his current stamina was not something ordinary people could compare to.
Yang Qi and Wang Jinxi, along with a few crewmen, went back to the deck to continue fishing.
Yang Qi looked into the sea, went to scoop up some live shrimp, and began to bait the two electric reels with live shrimp for fishing.
He tightened the brakes on the electric reels and started automatic fishing again.
Before long, the fishing rod twitched twice, and the electric reel hummed as it reeled in the line.
"Hooked!"
Yang Qi had already clearly seen the fish on the hook and was looking forward to this new species.
As soon as it was pulled to the surface, the seawater was suddenly dyed black.
Yang Qi quickly grabbed the landing net and scooped up the two fish on the string of hooks.
"It really is a cuttlefish! And quite big!"
"Hiss~" The fish sprayed black ink in mid-air again, covering Yang Qi's head and face.
The two cuttlefish thrashed on the deck after Yang Qi threw them there, their body colors visibly changing.
One weighed 5 jin, the other 3 jin.
Yang Qi wiped his face and continued to bait his hook and fish.
Live cuttlefish would definitely fetch a higher price. Yang Qi calculated the time; there were still two days and one night before they returned.
"Forget it, keeping them alive is a bit too difficult! Fresh on ice will have to do!"
Just like that, Yang Qi caught about a dozen more, varying in size. The cuttlefish school also slowly dispersed.
Soon, more fish were hooked. This time, they were several sea bream. Pulled out of the water, their scales shimmered with colorful light under the lamps.
Yang Qi skillfully removed the fish and put them into the fish box. At this moment, Wang Jinxi came over, his face full of envy, and said,
"Yang Qi, your fishing skills are truly divine. You always have a full harvest."
Yang Qi smiled and waved his hand, "Just good luck. Everyone keep fishing, maybe we'll have an even bigger catch later."
Afterward, the few of them also gathered to smoke and chat.
If someone hooked a fish in between, he would go reel it in himself. If help was needed, everyone would go assist.
About an hour passed like this when suddenly one of Yang Qi's fishing rods shook violently. The line on the electric reel, with its brake slightly loosened, whizzed out rapidly.
"This fish has a lot of strength!" Yang Qi immediately stepped forward, gripped the fishing rod tightly, fiercely raised the rod to set the hook, and began to wrestle with the fish.
Yang Qi held the fishing rod tightly, letting the fish pull the line. Anyway, he had just checked the seabed and there were no large schools of fish. He wasn't in a hurry, so he operated slowly.
He slowly let out line while skillfully responding to the fish's struggles. When the fish's pull eased, he reeled in. When the fish started to pull hard, he let out line.
The surrounding crewmen gathered, all realizing that Yang Qi had hooked another big fish, and watched this "man-fish battle" nervously.
After a struggle, a huge Grouper was pulled out of the water, weighing at least ninety, if not a hundred, jin.
Everyone gasped in amazement, and Wang Jinxi excitedly shouted, "Yang Qi, you're going to catch all the treasures from the sea!"
Yang Qi wiped his sweat and said with a smile, "I'm just lucky!"
Wang Jinxi brought two buckets of water. Everyone washed their faces and hands together, then cleaned the ink from the deck.
Yang Qi looked into the sea. Indeed, there were no more schools of fish. He decided to leave the remaining few fish for the crewmen to catch!
By the time Yang Qi took a shower and lay in bed, it was almost 2 AM. Even with the thunderous snoring of the people next to him, he couldn't be stopped from falling asleep, and soon drifted off.
When Yang Qi woke up around 8:30 AM, he didn't even bother to wash up and rushed to the deck to check the fishing situation.
Reality was cruel; there weren't many fish.
In a situation with no fish biting, Yang Qi's ability was useless. He couldn't conjure schools of fish out of thin air.
And the boat wasn't his, so he couldn't go wherever he wanted to find fish.
"Buy a boat, I must buy a boat!"
Yang Qi's desire grew strong again.
The fishing was consistently poor during the day. All the fishermen on the boat combined didn't catch many fish.
Yang Qi didn't even cast his rod, only occasionally activating his ability to check the situation underwater.
Zhang Jun also didn't cast his rod, following Yang Qi. He occasionally roamed around the fishing boat with his hands behind his back, like a leader inspecting work.
He shouted, "Keep it up, brothers! Don't give up, victory belongs to you!"
Everyone responded with laughter and playful curses.
Yang Qi was really bored, so he lay on the sofa in the lounge and fell asleep without realizing it.
Yang Qi was woken up by Zhang Jun because it was time to eat.
The steamed Beltfish that night made Yang Qi praise it endlessly.
Indeed, the freshness of the ingredients was paramount!
The silvery, slightly shimmering skin was appetizing to look at, and a taste of the delicious and delicate fish meat brought a hint of sweetness.
It was perfect in color, aroma, and taste!
After eating, Yang Qi went to the deck again. It felt like they had moved to a new fishing spot.
The sea was exceptionally calm at night, with moonlight spilling over the sparkling water.
He activated his ability again, wanting to see if there were any schools of fish approaching. Suddenly, he sensed a large, dense school of fish moving rapidly in the distance.
"There's a chance!" Yang Qi became excited.
He quickly baited his hook and cast it into the sea, waiting for the fish to bite.
Everyone else also started baiting and fishing. At a new fishing spot, whether there were fish or not, they would cast three times first.
Before long, the fishing rods began to twitch. Everyone started reeling in, and plump fish were pulled onto the deck, one after another.
Yang Qi was even busier, his electric reel constantly turning, the fishing line rapidly retracting.
Suddenly, a red silhouette appeared on his screen. Yang Qi couldn't make out what kind of fish it was.
He started trying to cast towards that direction, but the first attempt had no effect, and several consecutive attempts failed.
Just as Yang Qi was about to give up, a strong tug made him reflexively raise his rod to set the hook.
"Here it comes! It's the one!" Yang Qi confirmed it was the red silhouette he had seen earlier.
Any red fish in the sea would not have a low price.
The fishing line on the electric reel kept paying out. Yang Qi just held the rod, keeping the line taut, without reeling it in.
Based on his feel, Yang Qi sensed it was about time, so he immediately locked the line release brake and began to exert force to fight the fish, slowly pulling it up.
Zhang Jun had been standing behind Yang Qi ever since he hooked the fish and was in a stalemate with it.
At this moment, he held a landing net and skillfully scooped up the large red fish.
The fish's body was too big; a section of its tail hung out of the net.
The two of them together lifted the large fish from the sea.
"What a big ruby! At least forty jin!" Zhang Jun said.
Actually, Yang Qi already knew the species of the fish, so there was no joy of an unboxing.
The joy in Yang Qi's heart was inexpressible. He became even more determined to buy a boat. With his own boat, he could more freely pursue schools of fish and harvest more wealth.
