193: Bonus Chapter: Zhou Wanyi's Ten Minutes
Yu Heng just looked at her without saying a word, his eyes as calm as if he were waiting for a result he already knew.
And indeed, he knew that Zhou Wanyi would definitely compromise.
Intuition sounds like something metaphysical, but in reality, it's just a judgment made based on experience and wisdom.
When Yu Heng spoke or acted toward women, he never said anything or did anything unless he was certain of their reaction.
As long as he spoke or acted, even if it pushed boundaries, the other person's reaction would be within his predictions and under his control.
Zhou Wanyi pursed her lips, knowing she couldn't escape this.
"I'm going to the bedroom..." Her voice was so low it was almost inaudible. "You... don't come in."
Yu Heng nodded and said nothing.
Zhou Wanyi stood up, walked into the bedroom, and closed the door.
She opened the second drawer of the nightstand; the item was lying right there.
Lowering her pajama pants to the back of her knees, she sat on the edge of the bed.
βββ
Just as she sat down, her phone rang; it was a call from her best friend.
She stared at the screen, hesitating for a few seconds before finally pressing answer, her voice kept low: "Hello?"
"Wanyi! What are you doing?" Liu Hui's background was a bit noisy. "Are you free this afternoon? I'm taking Lele to the children's playground and thought I'd invite you and Xiao Hui. We can grab dinner together tonight while we're at it."
Zhou Wanyi's breathing was a bit unsteady: "I... I can't today."
"What's wrong?" Liu Hui asked. "Aren't you off duty today?"
"No..." Zhou Wanyi pursed her lips. "My brother-in-law is back, and my mother-in-law isn't home, so I have to... cook."
The other end of the line went silent for a second, then Liu Hui laughed: "So what if your brother-in-law is back? He's a college-aged young man; surely he won't let himself starve?"
"Wanyi," Liu Hui's voice carried a hint of teasing, "you couldn't possibly... have other intentions, could you?"
Liu Hui stood holding her daughter in her arms, a grin spreading across her face.
She used to tease Zhou Wanyi often, saying that her man had been gone for so long that the period of mourning should be over, and asking if she missed having a man.
The girl would always scold her for having a dirty mouth.
Has she finally seen the light now?
"What nonsense are you talking about!" Zhou Wanyi quickly lowered her voice, afraid to even move for fear of making a sound. "He's my brother-in-law..."
"What's wrong with a brother-in-law?" Liu Hui said with a smile. "No food is better than dumplings, and no fun is better than playing withβ"
"Huihui!" Zhou Wanyi quickly interrupted her. "Don't talk nonsense!"
Besides, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to hold back anymore.
"Oh my, oh my," Liu Hui continued, "it's true, though. I actually envy you for having a brother-in-law. Since my divorce, I've had to rely on fake ones to get by."
"Huihui!" Zhou Wanyi chided. "You're not allowed to talk like that anymore, I'm getting angry!"
"Why such a big reaction?" Liu Hui curled her lip. "Fine, fine, I'll stop. I'll just take Lele by myself then."
After the call hung up, Zhou Wanyi stared at the screen in a daze for a moment.
Her legs felt a bit numb. She shifted slightly. If she stayed in the room for too long, would Yu Heng get suspicious?
But right now, she really couldn't hold back.
ββ
Yu Heng sat on the sofa, listening intently to the sounds from the bedroom.
The voice was very low and muffled, but he could tell someone was talking.
On the phone?
Didn't he tell her to go in and take measurements?
He frowned. Just as he was about to stand up and listen at the door, his phone screen lit up.
Zhou Mengqi sent a WeChat message saying that after the second video was posted on the Soul Pawnshop account, it had gained another million followers.
Just as Yu Heng was about to reply, she called him directly.
He picked up: "What's up?"
"Nothing," Zhou Mengqi's voice was full of smiles, "I just missed you."
"Are you at the Villa?"
"Yeah, just finished dance practice," Zhou Mengqi clicked her tongue. "That dance teacher's attitude is a bit poor."
"Oh?" Yu Heng raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong with her?"
"As soon as she arrived, she asked if you were here. When I said no, her face immediately dropped." Zhou Mengqi lowered her voice. "She had a cold face the whole time and was incredibly nitpicky with the movements. I'm exhausted."
Yu Heng couldn't help but chuckle. He Mengyao was clearly having a mood.
However, Yu Heng didn't think much of it.
He hired her to teach dance; he never said he had to be present.
"Isn't it good that she teaches seriously?" Yu Heng said. "Don't you guys want to improve quickly?"
"But she's too serious..." Zhou Mengqi grumbled, her tone softening. "When are you coming back to Tang City?"
"Tomorrow afternoon, probably around four or five o'clock."
"Then tomorrow night... can I go see you?" she asked.
"Tomorrow night... we'll see." Yu Heng narrowed his eyes. "Wait until I get back."
The other end of the line was silent for a second, then Zhou Mengqi obediently replied, "Alright then."
After hanging up, Yu Heng placed his phone on the coffee table.
He checked the time. About ten minutes had passed since Zhou Wanyi went inside.
Does it really take this long?
The talking in the bedroom had already stopped.
Another ten minutes passed before Zhou Wanyi finally came out.
When she opened the door and stepped out, her legs were truly weak, like she was walking on cotton.
Yu Heng was still sitting on the sofa. He looked up at her: "Finished measuring?"
"Fifteen..." Zhou Wanyi's voice was dry.
"Why did it take so long?" Yu Heng asked.
"My best friend called me," Zhou Wanyi murmured. "She wanted to hang out, but I told her I wasn't free today."
Yu Heng gave an 'en' in response and didn't press further.
Then he tapped on the tablet and filled in the numbers.
"Okay." He put the tablet back. "Continue filling it out."
