79: Qin Lu, who is exceptionally sensitive
Over at the lecture hall, Ning Yutong, Hao Junran, and the others were getting things ready first.
Yu Heng checked his phone; the interviews were at five, so there was still enough time.
He had to go find Qin Lu.
She was the Supervising Teacher, and she needed to be present for the interviews tonight.
This was official business, of course, but he also wanted to see how she was doing while he was at it.
Yu Heng walked to the Counselor's office door and knocked twice.
"Come in," Qin Lu's voice came from inside.
Yu Heng pushed the door open and entered.
Qin Lu was alone in the office.
She was sitting behind her desk. When she saw it was him, she frowned and asked in a businesslike tone, "Is something the matter?"
"Counselor, the club interviews are tonight; you need to be there." Yu Heng walked up to the desk and just stood there, looking at her.
From this angle, Yu Heng's gaze naturally swept downward.
Sure enough, she was wearing them again.
Nude stockings, very thin.
"Mhm, I know. What time? Which classroom?" Qin Lu leaned back slightly, a defensive posture.
"Five o'clock, Lecture Hall 204 in Building One," Yu Heng said in a serious tone. "Forty people were shortlisted, divided into two groups. We'll interview twenty today, and it should wrap up in about an hour."
"I'll be there at five sharp," Qin Lu replied quickly.
She had to go; it was work.
"Alright." Yu Heng nodded but didn't leave, a knowing smile playing on his lips. "Still angry?"
Qin Lu looked up at him, her brow furrowing deeper. "What would I be angry about?"
"So you are still angry." Yu Heng raised an eyebrow and took a step forward.
"Didn't I say..." Qin Lu's voice carried a warning. "Don't ever mention that matter again!"
Yu Heng circled the desk and walked to her side.
She instinctively tried to move her chair to create some distance, but he held the back of it.
"Which matter?" Yu Heng leaned down slightly. "Counselor, you have to say it for me to know."
"Yu Heng!" She turned to glare at him. "I'm being serious! I'm not joking!"
"I'm not joking either." Yu Heng's tone became a bit more serious as he raised his other hand and naturally rested it on Qin Lu's shoulder.
"I just hope you're not angry," Yu Heng said, his fingers beginning to trace along her collarbone.
Qin Lu's body went numb, and she nearly let out a sound.
She raised her hand to push him away, but her wrist was caught by his other hand.
"Yu Heng!" Her voice trembled; she was truly panicked this time. "This is the office!"
He was being too bold!
"I know." Yu Heng chuckled. "So, isn't it true that I'm not doing anything?"
Not doing anything?
What else does he want to do?
Qin Lu cursed inwardly.
Do me?
"Did you take the medicine?" Yu Heng suddenly asked, the jump in topic catching Qin Lu off guard.
"I did..." she replied instinctively, then couldn't help but grit her teeth and curse, "You little bastard, are you scared now?"
"I'm not scared," Yu Heng's breath brushed against her ear. "I'm mostly worried about you; being an older mother is quite dangerous."
Qin Lu whipped her head around, nearly hitting Yu Heng's chin. "Shut up!"
Who wants to have his baby!
How could he even say such a thing! Qin Lu cursed in her head.
After cursing, she thought, An older mother? She was thirty-eight this year; if she really calculated... No! Why was she even calculating that!
Yu Heng looked at her, the corners of his mouth curling up.
She was angry, but she hadn't truly lost her temper.
That was enough.
"Alright, don't be angry anymore," Yu Heng said as he ran a hand over her stockings. "Today's stockings are very beautiful too; I like them a lot."
"Can't you just stop talking so much?" Qin Lu turned her head away, refusing to look at him.
"Fine, I'll say less." Yu Heng pulled his hand away. The sensation he had just stirred up in Qin Lu vanished abruptly, like an interrupted climax. "See you in a bit then. We'll talk after the interviews."
His tone was a bit more serious, but his eyes still held a hint of a smile.
Only then did Qin Lu turn back to meet his gaze.
Does this little bastard have me figured out, knowing I won't actually turn against him?
"I'll be on time for the interviews," Qin Lu tried to make her voice sound calm. "Now, please leave. I still have work to handle."
This was an order to leave.
But Yu Heng could tell there wasn't much conviction behind those words.
"Alright." Yu Heng stood up straight, took two steps toward the door, then stopped and looked back.
Qin Lu's heart tightened.
What now?
"The stockings," Yu Heng pointed at her legs. "Next time, I want to see you in black ones."
With that, he opened the door and left.
The door closed softly.
Silence returned to the office.
Qin Lu sat in her chair, not moving for a long while.
She looked down at her legs; the nude stockings had a faint sheen under the lights.
Black ones?
He likes black ones?
It seemed so.
Qin Lu bit her lip, actually considering what color to wear next time.
She glanced at the time in the bottom right corner of her computer screen.
4:20.
Forty minutes until the interviews.
She needed to prepare.
Qin Lu held the club's interview list.
Her eyes fell on the paper,
but her mind didn't seem to be listening.
Black stockings.
She did have a few black pairs in her wardrobe; the one she wore last time was black.
But the styles were all the same.
Should she buy a few different styles?
Qin Lu stood up irritably and walked to the window.
The office was on the third floor, overlooking the students passing by below.
Yu Heng should have been far away by now.
What did he mean by "talk after the interviews"?
What would happen when the interviews were over?
Her hand unconsciously tightened around the window frame.
She realized she was actually looking forward to it.
Qin Lu, you're really regressing as you get older.
She scolded herself in her head.
But despite the scolding, her body gave an honest reaction.
Since that night, it was as if her body had been replaced with another.
It had become exceptionally sensitive.
Qin Lu turned and went back to her desk, sitting down.
She needed to calm down.
There was still time before the interviews; she could go to the restroom and wash her face.
Qin Lu picked up her bag and walked out of the office.
It was about time.
She should head to the lecture hall.
She wondered if Yu Heng had arrived... In the lecture hall, Ning Yutong and the others had almost finished setting up.
She had pasted a label on a table in the first row: Interviewer's Seat.
The rows behind were reserved for the students waiting to be interviewed.
Hao Junran and the others were moving chairs, shifting the extra ones to the corner.
"Why isn't Yu Heng here yet?" Hao Junran wiped away some sweat. "It's almost five."
"He should be here soon." Ning Yutong glanced at the door. "He said he was going to notify the Counselor."
Just as she finished speaking, Yu Heng pushed the door open and walked in.
"Everything ready?" He scanned the classroom.
"Almost." Ning Yutong walked over and handed him a sheet of paper. "This is the list of the twenty people to be interviewed today, arranged alphabetically by name. But since people are arriving at different times, we'll interview whoever comes first."
Yu Heng took the list, looked it over, and nodded. "Alright, we only have an hour anyway. Latecomers won't be waited for."
Ning Yutong looked at him and suddenly asked, "Yu Heng?"
"Hmm?" Yu Heng raised an eyebrow and looked up at her. "What's up?"
"Haven't you edited the video we shot the other day yet?" Ning Yutong asked.
"Ah~" Yu Heng winced, embarrassed to say, "I was a bit busy this weekend! In the next couple of days, I'll definitely have it edited!"
