204: Chapter 198 Value
After He Mengyao finished speaking, she walked ahead. Yu Heng stubbed out his cigarette and followed her.
Shen Yueling grabbed his arm. "Are you really going?"
"It doesn't cost anything to look," Yu Heng said.
"What does she mean?" Shen Yueling lowered her voice. "Is she going to buy you a car?"
"I don't know," Yu Heng told the truth. "Let's see what she says."
Zhou Mengqi took Bai Xinran's arm and whispered, "A BMW!"
Bai Xinran gave a soft hum of acknowledgment. She didn't know much about cars; her father's car belonged to his workplace and didn't seem particularly high-end.
If Master could drive a nice car, she would be happy for him too.
He Mengyao had already reached the entrance of the BMW 4S dealership and glanced back at them.
As Yu Heng approached, she pushed open the door.
The interior decor was clearly more upscale than the previous shop. The salesman, a middle-aged man in a suit, quickly scanned the group as he approached, his eyes narrowing slightly.
"Looking for a car, sir?" the salesman asked Yu Heng.
"Just looking around," Yu Heng said.
"This way, please." The salesman led them toward the showroom floor.
He Mengyao walked over to a white X3 and ran her finger along the hood. "How about this one?"
Yu Heng looked at the price tag: over four hundred thousand.
"It's over the budget," he said.
"I didn't say you were the one paying." He Mengyao pulled open the door, sat in the driver's seat, and adjusted the steering wheel.
Seeing this, the salesman immediately stepped forward to introduce the specifications.
Shen Yueling stood outside the car, watching He Mengyao's profile through the window.
Where did this woman get so much money?
A rich second-generation?
"Do you like this one?" Yu Heng leaned down with his hand on the roof and asked.
"It's okay," He Mengyao said as she got out of the car. "But SUVs are cumbersome to drive. A sedan is better."
She walked over to a 3 Series nearby and tapped on the window. "What about this one? Want to try it?"
"Can we take it for a test drive?" Yu Heng asked the salesman.
"Of course," the salesman said.
Yu Heng handed over his driver's license. The salesman took it and looked it over. "Please wait a moment while I make the arrangements."
Once the salesman walked away, Yu Heng looked at He Mengyao. "Are you really going to buy it?"
"Why not? It's just a few hundred thousand," He Mengyao whispered to him. "Your wife is a little wealthy woman now."
Shen Yueling walked over. "Teacher He's family must be very well-off."
"It's alright." He Mengyao didn't want to explain further.
"Being able to buy a car as a student is quite impressive." Shen Yueling's tone was ambiguous, making it hard to tell if it was praise or sarcasm.
He Mengyao twitched the corner of her mouth but didn't respond.
The salesman returned with the keys. "The test drive vehicle is ready. This way, please."
Yu Heng sat in the driver's seat and adjusted the seat and mirrors.
He Mengyao opened the back door, sat inside, and buckled her seatbelt.
The salesman sat in the passenger seat with a tablet in hand. "We'll take a lap around the park first to get a feel for the handling at low speeds."
The car slowly drove out of the 4S dealership and onto the internal roads of the Automobile City.
—
The car circled back to the 4S dealership, and Yu Heng brought it to a steady stop.
The salesman got out to get some documents, leaving only the two of them in the car.
"You really want to buy it?" Yu Heng turned to look at her.
"I'm buying it." He Mengyao looked back at him. "Do you like it?"
"It's okay."
"Then this is the one." He Mengyao unbuckled her seatbelt. "You pick the color, I'll pay. But I have one condition."
"I knew it," Yu Heng chuckled. "What condition?"
He Mengyao narrowed her eyes. "Spend at least one day a week with me."
"Just one day a week?" Yu Heng smiled. "Deal."
The two got out and returned to the showroom. Shen Yueling walked over. "How was it?"
"It's decided," Yu Heng said.
Shen Yueling looked at He Mengyao. "She's paying?"
"Yes." He Mengyao took her wallet out of her bag, pulled out a bank card, and handed it to the salesman. "Full payment."
The salesman's eyes lit up as he took the card. "Alright, please wait a moment."
Zhou Mengqi leaned into Bai Xinran's ear. "She actually bought it."
Shen Yueling pursed her lips tightly and only said after a few seconds, "Suit yourself."
After the payment, processing the paperwork would take some time.
The salesman said they could handle the registration for them, so they should head back first and come pick up the car in a couple of days.
—
On the way back to University Town after buying the car, Shen Yueling remained silent the whole time, not saying a word even after they returned to the Villa.
He Mengyao dropped them off at the entrance of the residential area and drove away.
Zhou Mengqi went back to her own place, while Bai Xinran followed Yu Heng and Shen Yueling into the house.
After entering, Yu Heng tossed the car keys onto the entryway cabinet and glanced at Shen Yueling, who walked straight to the sofa and sat down.
"A Ling, go back to your room first," Yu Heng said.
Bai Xinran gave a soft response, lowered her head to change into her slippers, walked to her room, and closed the door.
Yu Heng walked over to the sofa, sat down, and pulled Shen Yueling into his arms.
"What's wrong?" Yu Heng placed his hand on her waist. "Are you unhappy?"
Shen Yueling didn't speak.
"Is it because He Mengyao bought me a car?" Yu Heng asked again.
The person in his arms remained silent for a long while before finally speaking in a muffled voice, "I just feel like... I'm the only one who's useless to you."
Yu Heng's fingers absentmindedly caressed her waist. "Why do you say that?"
"A Ling can help you manage the business; she handles everything inside and out quite well. Zhou Mengqi is an artist you signed; her short videos are doing great now, and she can make money." Shen Yueling paused. "Now this newcomer, He Mengyao... she spends hundreds of thousands to buy you a car without hesitation."
She turned her head to look at Yu Heng. "I feel like I can't help you with anything, except..."
She didn't finish the sentence.
Yu Heng knew what she wanted to say.
Except for sleeping with him, she seemed to have no other value by his side.
"You think you're useless?" Yu Heng pulled her a little closer, his palm resting against her lower back. "Shen Yueling, you're my childhood friend, the person I'm closest to here. Isn't that enough?"
"What's the use of being close?" Shen Yueling's voice dropped. "Being close doesn't put food on the table. I can't help at all with the things you're doing now."
Yu Heng narrowed his eyes. He knew that right now, simply telling her she was valuable or useful—or even saying that just sleeping with him was enough—would be futile.
He had to solve the problem.
"Then what do you want to do? You can help me too," Yu Heng said, holding her. "Look, there are many things I'm doing that you can help with. You can make short videos if you want, or get involved in design. Your drawing skills are good; you could design products with A Ling, or even draw skins for the Streamers."
"But I've never done any of that..."
"No one's asking you to be perfect right away. Just take it slow. These things need to be done anyway, and it's better to have one of our own do it than an outsider."
