14: Chapter 14 The Little Shed: Let's Learn to Write First
The Human Race had no way to deal with the giant fern trees. Given their slender, sharp claws and teeth that were not particularly long, even if they all gathered to gnaw on a single trunk, they would not be able to fell a tree in half a day.
Helpless, Zhao Feng realized he had forgotten just how massive the plants were at this time, so he had no choice but to send the Human Race to collect stones while he took the Flying Flood Dragon to fell trees.
The Flying Flood Dragon was a true behemoth. It only needed to use its massive body to ram into the trees like a bulldozer, and it could easily snap the fern trees, which were incredibly thick compared to the Human Race.
It also used its slender claws to grasp the broken fern trees and, relying on its ability to fly, continuously transported the Materials to the clearing at the cave entrance.
Soon, the clearing at the cave entrance was piled high with wood still full of branches and leaves. Seeing that it was enough, Zhao Feng stopped the Flying Flood Dragon.
Wood can only be used for construction after it has been air-dried, but it was obvious that this was still just a pile of broken trees. Fortunately, this could not stump Zhao Feng.
On Taichu Star, Zhao Feng was a god, albeit a conditional one.
Zhao Feng held a ball of golden light in his hand. Within the sphere of light, a long river seemed to faintly appear. If magnified infinitely, one could see that it was made of golden threads, seemingly possessing infinite power.
That was the power of time, the power to regulate time.
The golden ball of light slowly grew larger until it enveloped the entire pile of trees.
Zhao Feng silently recited the rate of time in his heart. He saw the pile of trees gradually change from green to yellow; the leaves withered and fell off.
Withdrawing the power to regulate time, Zhao Feng smiled with satisfaction. Next was processing the Materials.
There were no saws, no axes, and at the start, not even a dog.
What to do? Fortunately, Zhao Feng had plenty of minions. Although these minions had almost zero intelligence, that made them easier for him to control. The power of the Planet Mother allowed him to use mental manipulation on these low-intelligence creatures.
A mass of green light swirled around Zhao Feng's body, and small specks of light of various colors from all directions continuously flowed into the green.
Zhao Feng touched the ground, and countless pieces of information flowed rapidly.
There were a few Sawtooth Crabs nearby—hmm, they could saw through the wood. There were two Burrowing Earthworms that could be used to drill holes, and a Giant Hammer Mantis, which would be good for laying the foundation.
However, they were so slow that it might take a long time for them to get here. Hmm! That is it, there was also a Wind Cloud Mother nearby that could serve as a transport plane.
Under Zhao Feng's conscious control, the Sawtooth Crabs, Burrowing Earthworms, and Giant Hammer Mantis—creatures that usually preyed on each other—actually gathered together, stood on the broad back of the Wind Cloud Mother, and headed toward the same destination.
The Wind Cloud Mother was a massive sky creature. It had a ray-like appearance, and its light green body with bright yellow stripes was very light. Each undulatory stroke of its wings could propel its body a great distance forward.
The Wind Cloud Mother was a close relative of the Balloon Algae, possessing both plant and animal characteristics. It could float in the sky indefinitely and absorb a certain amount of light energy as fuel.
Of course, as a characteristic of sky creatures, it was very light. With a back area the size of a football field, it weighed only a little over two hundred kilograms, which could be considered very light.
Because it had some plant characteristics, its temperament was very gentle, and it did not mind having a few little guys on its back at all.
The Human Race was still happily picking up stones. Compared to boring studying, this activity was clearly more suited to their lazy personalities.
Relying on their numbers, they quickly gathered a large pile of stones, and then, they were frightened for the second time.
Without a doubt, the Wind Cloud Mother was countless times larger than the Flying Flood Dragon.
When a giant shadow loomed overhead, any creature would feel fear from the bottom of its heart—except, of course, for the Thunder Flying Flood Dragon.
The Thunder Flying Flood Dragon was a mythical creature; it could sense that this big guy had no malicious intent, so it just looked up once and then continued to doze.
The pitiful Human Race whimpered and lay on the ground; what they had seen and heard over the past few days was about to crush their fragile nerves.
Zhao Feng could not be bothered with this bunch of oddballs. He ordered these creatures to start processing the wood according to his requirements.
Although there were bumps and stumbles, and quite a few Materials were ruined, hard work pays off. By the time the beautiful figure of the sister star was fully revealed in the sky again, the basic frame of the wooden house was finished.
Zhao Feng borrowed the ability of a Sticky Bug to produce a lot of mucus.
The Sticky Bug was a very magical insect. It had a round, plump body, and its withered yellow body was covered with many pairs of short little legs.
It had no powerful mouthparts or mandibles, nor did it have sharp eyes; instead, it relied on spinning sticky webs in the fern thickets to hunt.
There were male and female Sticky Bugs. The males could spit out transparent, tough threads, and the females could coat the threads with mucus.
This mucus had very strong adhesiveness and could solidify in about twelve hours.
Once prey was stuck, the Sticky Bug would wait for the mucus to solidify, and then inject another type of digestive fluid into the prey's body through a slender mouthpart. The digestive fluid could digest the prey into a pile of nutrient solution, which then became a feast for the Sticky Bug.
Precisely because the Sticky Bug's mucus had such powerful properties and was impervious to water and fire, it could be used as cement, making sticking walls together incredibly simple.
Zhao Feng used wooden boards as molds, coated the stones with mucus, and stuck them together one by one; besides, these wooden boards did not need to be removed anyway.
Just like that, he quickly laid the foundation and built the ground beams and pillars. Next was building the walls according to the envisioned house design.
It was obvious that the Human Race could not help at all. Although a few were eager to try, after they made things worse, they were quickly shooed away by Zhao Feng.
Because the wooden boards were completely glued in place, the final structure became a stone shed encased in wood.
The roof was riveted with wooden boards and covered with a large amount of withered leaves. In this way, a small shed appeared. After making the windows tomorrow and crafting some furniture, he could completely say goodbye to the cave.
Of course, tonight Zhao Feng would obviously only stay in his own small shed; he would not have to suffer that kind of torture.
Estimating that it was about time, Zhao Feng called out the entire group of 42 Humans and cooked dinner over a huge bonfire.
The Human Race had no concept of breakfast or dinner. Originally, they would eat until full in one meal and could endure for a week or two.
But Zhao Feng could not possibly cater to this habit of theirs that seemed so unscientific.
A group of Humans gathered dejectedly around the bonfire, looking at the unknown beast meat on the huge wooden rack.
"How could meat of this color taste good? Without the sweet blood, without the pleasure of tearing into it, this powerhouse is just too boring."
Zhao Feng would never have guessed that his painstaking efforts were thought of this way by the Human Race; otherwise, he probably would have had these guys humanely destroyed on the spot.
But the evolution of human intelligence certainly had a lot to do with cooked food, so Zhao Feng naturally had to try it.
The original food distribution was carried out in the order of leader, warriors, women, children, and the elderly.
However, Zhao Feng gave the best parts to the children first. In his eyes, these Human children were still a blank slate, so they would certainly be less difficult to teach and would surely learn quickly.
As for the rest of the Human Race, it would depend on their own luck. In the long river of time, in the eyes of the Creator, they were unimportant.
Intimidated by the power of the strong, the leader certainly dared not resist. They quickly ate the roasted meat, preparing for the terrible torture that would follow.
"Hmm, this roasted meat tastes a bit strange, but it is not bad." In their simple minds, this was their only impression of roasted meat.
Outside the small shed was a flat piece of wasteland. A group of Humans, both big and small, were gathered here by Zhao Feng. They squatted on the ground, looking at this short powerhouse with awe.
They saw the powerhouse use a dry branch to draw a circle on the ground, and then add a few dots near the edge of the circle.
"What is this?"
At this moment, countless little question marks seemed to pop up above the Humans' heads.
Zhao Feng pointed his finger at the sun that was about to set in the west, and then pointed at the drawing on the ground.
The Human Race followed Zhao Feng's hand, looking at the sky and then at the ground, all in complete bewilderment.
Zhao Feng ignored them and drew a flame on the ground, then pointed to the bonfire, where the fire was burning fiercely.
Next, he drew a stick figure with four arms and then pointed at the Human Race.
At this moment, a glimmer of wisdom seemed to appear in the eyes of a few Humans.
"Ho, ho ho!"
Two large Humans jumped out, picked up a branch, and while shouting, began to draw on the ground.
Zhao Feng was overjoyed. Could they have finally had a breakthrough? But when he looked closely, he was so angry his nose almost went crooked. They were just drawing messy lines there, as if naughty children had found a toy.
After fiercely disciplining these two idiots, Zhao Feng began the arduous teaching process again. Until it was completely dark, not a single Human could understand these strange drawings.
"Take it slow!" Zhao Feng tried to encourage himself. "It is just teaching them to read, and it is only just begun. They are just not used to it yet. Tomorrow morning, I will chase these guys off to gather and hunt; they are simply too dull!"
Once again using the Wind Cloud Mother to send the helping animals home, Zhao Feng chased away the Human Race, had the Thunder Flying Flood Dragon lie down in front of the small shed, and walked into the house himself to prepare for meditation practice.
The newly built small shed still had a faint scent of wood and was finally free of the fishy stench inside the Human Race's cave, which made Zhao Feng incredibly happy.
Sitting on the withered leaves—hmm! It still pricked his butt a bit. When would there be cotton, silk quilts, and the like? It seemed he would have to find a time to create cotton to improve his quality of life.
Withdrawing his scattered thoughts, Zhao Feng continued his daily Qi practice. This was a long, drawn-out process, and he did not expect any sudden progress.
Life like this, although still a bit dull, was no longer lonely. One day, the Human Race would step into the starry sky and find that place hidden deep within their hearts.
