59: Chapter 59 The Expansion of Qin City

The expansion war of Qin City began with raging flames.

In a windless environment, the White-robed Warlock's ability to control the power of wind became very important.

Driven by the wind, the fire swept through the weeds and quickly rolled toward the Corpse Tree.

A large number of transformation points were absorbed by Zhao Feng through the citizens of the Empire.

The baring and clawing Corpse Trees could not move and perished one after another under the burning fire.

Although their long-dehydrated branches could sway like spirit snakes due to the magical Corpse Qi, this could not change the fact that they were highly flammable.

"Maintain vigilance and prevent the Corpse Beast from charging," a guard commander shouted loudly.

On the Planet of the Dead, the most dangerous things were never the stationary Corpse Trees, but the Corpse Beasts.

It was said that good things were not reliable, but bad things were.

There was a commotion in the flames, and a creature burning with fire dashed out rapidly.

At first, it might have just been instinctively avoiding the fire, but as it approached the crowd, it immediately turned and charged toward them.

"Halberdiers, defend!" the platoon leader ordered loudly.

"Hah!" The platoon of Halberdiers shouted in unison and turned to face the Corpse Beast.

The front row crouched down, bracing one end of their long halberds on the ground while holding the other end diagonally upward.

Their expressions did not change; they were completely unaware of what fear was.

Just as they were ready, the Corpse Beast crashed into them.

The gleaming bronze halberds pierced effortlessly into the Corpse Beast's abdomen, and the small branches of the halberds firmly stuck into the beast, preventing it from advancing.

Several halberds thrust forward, pinning it firmly in place until it was burned to death by the flames.

This was just a minor interlude. One after another, Corpse Beasts rushed out, but they were all successfully defended against, causing no losses.

In the rear, the Farmers were rapidly building warehouses and markets, and once finished, they immediately began constructing the city walls.

Protected by the army in front, a small fortress of about five hundred square meters was slowly taking shape. Thanks to the Farmers' superior construction ability, it would take about half a day for this fortress to be fully operational.

The fire continued to burn into the distance, and after losing the assistance of the Warlock's wind, it finally extinguished in a rocky area far away.

Everywhere was scorched earth.

Inside the fortress, a small tree emitting a glowing white light was carefully planted by the Planter; this was a Bodhi Spirit Tree.

Because the main System had been sealed, Bodhi Spirit Trees could no longer be obtained, making every single one extremely important.

However, the purification ability of the Bodhi Spirit Tree was exceptionally important for this expansion, so through the efforts of the Planter and Zhao Feng, one Bodhi Spirit Tree was transplanted.

The center of the fortress was the safest place and would not hinder the purification. The order received by the army was that even if the entire army perished, they must protect the Bodhi Spirit Tree.

After Corpse Beasts scratched humans, it would cause infection, but the purification light of the Spirit Tree could purify the corpse poison. Therefore, this was also a safeguard, as relying entirely on monks would be too overwhelming.

"Corpse Beasts are attacking! About two hundred medium-sized Corpse Beasts!" The sentry standing on the first high wall that had been built struck a bronze gong and shouted loudly.

Dusk was approaching. On the dark, distant earth, dust filled the sky, and one could vaguely see a large number of Corpse Beasts galloping over.

"Halberdiers First Platoon, Swordsmen First Platoon, protect the right-wing gap of the city wall."

"Halberdiers Second Platoon, Swordsmen Second Platoon, protect the left-wing gap."

As the command flags waved, the troops near the two gaps moved to defend their respective areas.

"Archers First Platoon, Giant Wood Archers First Squad, and Warlocks First Squad, provide long-range defense on the city wall."

"Monks Squad, prepare for rescue."

"All other units, stand by."

Meng's commands were executed methodically.

Qin City currently had only over three hundred troops, so naturally, they would not split their forces everywhere. The combat power here included not only a powerful army but also even more formidable experts, so it could be said that this operation had no suspense.

However, Zhao Feng intended to train the army's capabilities, so he let the powerful experts prepare only for rescue in critical moments and did not intend for them to join the battle.

"Archers, ready!"

On the city wall, the Archers and Giant Wood Archers raised their horn bows and nocked sharp arrows.

"Fire!"

"Twang!"

Amidst the uniform sound of bowstrings, 82 sharp arrows traced neat parabolas and quickly fell into the horde of Corpse Beasts.

Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh...

Medium-sized Corpse Beasts referred to those similar in size to cattle or horses. The arrows hit them, turning them into hedgehogs, but caused little damage. Only one or two fell to the ground as their Souls dissipated after being shot through the skull.

Small Corpse Beasts, similar to rats, were pinned to the ground in large numbers; although they struggled fiercely, they could not break free from the restraint of the arrow shafts.

Standing on the city wall, Zhao Feng's gaze was sharp. He saw quite a few small Corpse Beasts; compared to the large Corpse Beasts, they were the biggest threat!

"Watch out for the small Corpse Beasts!" He immediately warned Meng.

Meng nodded and shouted the order, "White-robed Warlocks, prepare Ice Storm!"

The White-robed Warlocks standing on the city wall began to emit a blue-white light from their bamboo staves. They formed hand seals, and streams of Spiritual Qi passed through the staves, like laser cannons charging up.

When recruited, Warlocks only knew six Spells: Wind Curse, Fire Curse, Metal Wheel, Green Vine Curse, Earth Spike, and Water Summoning.

After advancing to White-robed Warlocks, two new Spells were added: Ice Storm and Lightning Strike.

Among the eight Spells, the first six had a shorter range, about twenty meters, while the latter two were definitely long-range Spells, with a range exceeding two hundred meters.

Thirteen streaks of blue-white light shot out and exploded in the distant horde of Corpse Beasts, forming a fan-shaped Ice Storm that swept across the Corpse Beast horde.

Zhao Feng's eyes grew dazed. What a familiar scene; it was as if he had returned to Earth, where the Aliens' freezing beams used to surround and attack him just like this.

"Just wait, I will definitely come back to find you, definitely!"

The Ice Storm not only contained freezing cold air but also a large number of ice shards flying wildly in the wind. The powerful Spell raged through the horde of Corpse Beasts, and the small and micro Corpse Beasts were directly frozen into ice blocks, dying one after another.

The medium and large Corpse Beasts also saw their speed greatly reduced due to the freezing, and their momentum of attack was instantly weakened.

As a powerful Spell, it naturally consumed a lot of Spiritual Qi. The White-robed Warlocks silently recovered their Spiritual Qi, while on the other side, the Archers, under the command of the guard commander, raised their horn bows again.

"Fire!"

Another dense volley of arrows!

A few more unlucky Corpse Beasts died.

"Fire at will!" After two rounds, even though the Ice Storm had slowed down the enemy, the Corpse Beasts were now close to the melee troops, making it impossible to continue using dense volleys.

The Giant Wood Archers, with their superior marksmanship, began to fire with precision, and they also had quite a few successes.

"Defend!" The Halberdier platoon leader stood on the right side of the formation, raised his short bronze sword high, and shouted the order.

"Hah!" The Halberdiers shouted in unison, stepped forward with their left foot, and stomped hard on the ground. Then, the first row crouched down and braced their long halberds.

The second row held their long halberds horizontally, with the tips slightly behind. The third and fourth rows prepared to provide support at any time.

The Halberdiers' movements were uniform, filled with a sense of orderly beauty.

The Swordsmen in the rear also drew their short swords, ready to step forward and fight at any moment!

The rushing Corpse Beasts surged forward, and the Halberdiers could even feel the cold air and corpse stench hitting their faces.

Their palms began to sweat, their faces felt hot, and their hearts began to beat wildly. Halberdiers were human too; although they were fearless of death, they still possessed human emotions.

The golden halberd tips were like a hot knife cutting through butter. The Halberdiers could feel the violent impact, and then the Corpse Beast in front was caught by the side prong, the wooden shaft of the long halberd began to bend, and then snapped!

"Kill!" The Halberdiers threw away their broken halberds, drew their short swords, and thrust forward with force.

The surging horde of beasts charged in, and shrill screams could be heard everywhere.
