43: Chapter 43 The Sudden Summoning, The Onslaught of the Werewolves
The all-night battle left the people of the Qin Tribe exhausted to the point of death. After enduring the fatigue to send off the fallen warriors, the Qin Tribe entered a day of rest.
Only the Shaman continued in idle mode, taking a few Farmers and warriors who had not participated in the battle to continue building the tribe.
After enduring the drowsiness to finish his daily session of Cultivate, Zhao Feng entered dreamland.
In a daze, Zhao Feng suddenly seemed to arrive at a certain space.
This space was bizarre and motley, filled with countless strange lines and radiance. It seemed infinitely large, yet felt infinitely small, filled with a peculiar sense of contradiction.
Within the Void Realm were three enormous bubbles, one large and two small.
Besides these, there were countless heavy bubbles that seemed to overlap with these three, yet were also distant.
The three bubbles were of different colors.
The topmost one was white, the middle one was multicolored, and the bottommost one was black.
Each bubble possessed a different aura, but all were filled with a sense of decay. A rotting stench that seemed to pierce the Soul made one want to retch.
Chains of indescribable color were coiled between the three bubbles. These chains were constantly winding like spirit snakes, emitting dazzling light.
The spirit snakes seemed somewhat listless, looking very weak.
From time to time, some spots of light would fall off the chains and enter the dark caves that were ubiquitous all around.
They seemed to be right around the bubbles, yet also not.
Two incomparably majestic figures, who also looked like ordinary people, were playing a game of chess.
They were two old men, one with hair as white as snow, and one with a kind face.
The two sat right there in the Void Realm, with infinite brilliance shining around them.
They played chess quietly. Every time a piece was placed, the Void Realm would shake, emitting thunderous sounds.
"Xu, although countless Reincarnation cycles have made you weary, this time the result may not be the same as before. Let him try."
The kind-faced old man picked up a chess piece and pressed it onto the board.
The piece emitted ten thousand rays of white light, causing the distant chains to shudder violently, appearing much more spirited.
The white-haired old man was actually a sinister-looking old man with thin eyebrows. He sneered, "Taichu, does a mere few eras of slumber make you afraid?"
The kind old man smiled slightly, completely ignoring another ray of white light entering Xu's body, and played another piece.
"Xu, I am tired. The world outside might be even more wonderful. I want to go out and see, but if you return completely, I can only slumber. I want to change."
"Although this world is gradually decaying, with my power of creation, it may not be impossible to solve completely."
"Just with the power of such ants?" Xu said expressionlessly.
"You cannot feel their wonder at all. I believe in them."
"But your power is decaying. I do not believe in your little tricks."
Xu's speech began to speed up. He suddenly turned his head and seemed to see Zhao Feng.
Xu waved his large sleeve, and an invisible ripple swept over.
"What are you plotting?"
"Boom!" Taichu pressed with his left hand, and a stream of light hit Zhao Feng. Zhao Feng felt as if he had suddenly entered a colorful tunnel, moving faster and faster...
"Ah!" Zhao Feng woke up with a start. It seemed like a dream, yet it was so real. Outside the window, it was already dusk.
Zhao Feng sat dazed for a while. He already had some guesses in his heart, but regardless, these were still very far from him. Let's live through the present first. At least he roughly knew the final goal and had hope.
"Collect resources, let's get the buildings done first." Zhao Feng walked out the door with large strides, looking at the busy residents, his heart filled with hope.
"Here, little sister, eat quickly."
Yan Shi grabbed a few brown grass seeds from the grass pouch he kept close to his body and carefully placed them in his little sister's withered little palm.
"I'm not hungry, brother, you eat." The little wolf girl shook her head and tried to return the grass seeds. "Brother still has to go hunting; you can't stand it if you're hungry."
Yan Shi tilted his head and thought, then said, "Alright, let's eat together." He rubbed the fine fur on his sister's forehead, roughly divided the grass seeds into two portions, took the smaller one, and carefully put one in his mouth.
The coarse hairs on the rough grass seed skin were no match for the werewolf's mouth. A sour taste made Yan Shi feel energized. "Next time, I must fight bravely and strive to add the word 'Wolf' to my name. Then I can enjoy meat!"
Thinking of the deliciousness of meat, saliva couldn't help but secrete in Yan Shi's mouth. He swallowed the grass seeds in two or three bites. "I must make sure my sister and I live a good life."
"Awoo!" A sky-shaking wolf howl sounded. Yan Shi's face changed. He pulled his sister up, and the two thin, withered bodies leaped up. It was the gathering howl.
The ravine was chaotic. The sudden attack of the Corpse Beast drove the werewolves into this ravine. They lacked food. If they couldn't find food, they would face the danger of starving to death.
Yan Shi belonged to the infantry. Their mounts, the wolves, had starved to death and were eaten when they were young due to lack of food. In the combat sequence of the werewolves, these infantry belonged to cannon fodder. They had no meat to eat, their bodies were weak, and they were often used as the vanguard to charge enemy formations.
Hungry werewolves were everywhere. Yan Shi originally intended to take his sister and hide in the back, but he was squeezed out by some strong werewolves and ended up at the very front.
The chaotic werewolf infantry had no formation; they were noisy. A few guys who were shouting the loudest were dragged out by the leader and beaten violently, screaming like ghosts.
The infantry were starving, while the cavalry, who were the backbone, had good food.
"Don't... don't!" One creature after another was dragged out, including Kelo People, beasts, and various intelligent creatures. At this moment, they all had the same expression—that was the final attachment to life.
"Awoo!" The cavalry became restless. A delicious feast was about to happen. That sweet fresh blood and delicious meat were about to enter their mouths!
The Wolf Chief wiped his dirty underbelly, kicked the Kelo woman beside him, and howled loudly: "Eat, we are going to eat them all!"
He lunged at the Kelo woman, opened his big mouth, and his sharp fangs viciously pierced through the woman's delicate skin.
While enjoying the sweet fresh blood, the woman's struggle beneath him grew weaker and weaker. Finally, with a sudden twitch, the beautiful big eyes of the woman lost their luster.
Awoo...
Excited wolf howls rose one after another.
The leader had finished eating, and next was the gluttonous feast of the wolf riders. After eating this meal, their morale would be restored, and they would take down that village full of delicious meat!
Miserable and powerless figures were fleeing in panic, but they could not escape the clutches of those demons.
Blood splashed, blood flowed like a river, and everywhere were werewolves chewing on severed limbs and arms. Even the sun could not bear to see this bloody scene and hid behind the dark clouds.
As cannon fodder, the wolf infantry had no meat. They wailed from hunger. Hunger made them lose their fear, and green light emerged in their eyes.
The various strange-looking wolf infantry were restless, like a dance of demons.
The wolf infantry was a very chaotic team.
It was filled with various mixed-blood werewolves; they were the offspring of werewolves and various creatures.
Various werewolf hybrids could only enter the cavalry team and become a member of the werewolves by making great military achievements, adding the word 'Wolf' before their names.
As a descendant of a werewolf and a Kelo person, Yan Shi was not strong, but he was very smart. Every time they fought, he dragged his sister to hide in the back.
Although he hadn't made much military achievement, his life was safe, while those tall and strong ones had already been replaced many times over.
Because of avoiding the Corpse Beast herd, the Wolf Tribe had left very far away. They needed to return to that place; there was meat there!
Zhao Feng, who had already become meat in the eyes of others, had no premonition of the impending attack.
The Warrior Altar had been built. This was a building that was not too big.
Zhao Feng carefully admired the primitive building in front of him. It was completely open-air, and the entire building was circular.
In the center was a tall statue of a warrior. The warrior had a solemn expression, looking up at the sky, kneeling on one knee, with the spear in his hand resting on the ground. The bronze-colored armor on his body shone brightly in the sun.
Around the warrior statue were nine small circular platforms with strange textures on them.
These textures had been emitting a faint, weak light since they were built, as if something was gathering within them.
The entire altar was about one meter off the ground. Except for the entrance steps, the altar was surrounded by gray-white stone railings, looking quite beautiful.
At this time, the altar could not be upgraded yet, but many of Zhao Feng's warriors had reached the level for advancement.
Leaders like Meng, Platoon Leader Xu Feng, Bone, and Phoenix had all reached the peak of the mortal stage. If the path of evolution had not been opened, their highest achievements would just be like this.
The fatigue of the great battle had passed, and the residents in the village had started working again.
As people produced by the System, diligence was the most basic quality.
They wore blue linen clothes, some carrying stone axes or stone shovels, walking out of the village in groups of three or five. With the protection of the tall wooden wall, people felt much more at ease, chatting and laughing.
Soldiers were guarding the walls. They still had the fatigue of the great battle on their faces, but they were still faithfully performing their duties.
"What a miraculous village!"
Several strange-looking bumpkins were clicking their tongues in wonder. They rubbed their round bellies and strolled around the village accompanied by the Shaman and Meng.
The bellies that had never been full were like bottomless pits, leaving the people of the Qin Tribe dumbfounded.
"Look, what a clean cave!"
A short person with a rabbit head touched the wall of a residential house infatuatedly. Through the simple wooden window, some simple furniture could still be seen.
"Great Shaman, I wonder if your tribe can build such caves for us?"
"This is no problem, but what can your tribe provide for us?" The Shaman stroked his beard and smiled, speaking unhurriedly.
The rabbit head was instantly stunned. "That's right, the Qin Tribe is so rich, what can we provide?"
"No rush, Clan Chief, think about it first. After eating later, please come to the center of the village for a while." The Shaman gave Meng a wink, then let the arriving Xiao Luo continue the translation work, and left on his own to find Zhao Feng.
