40: Chapter 40 Burning the Beast Taming Pass

"Lady Luo Ha, we must escape quickly."

In front of a residential house, several furtive figures gathered together; one of the shorter figures looked at the dark, oppressive sky in the distance and said in a low voice.

"That's right, my Lady. The Qin Tribe looks strong, but they will never be a match for the Corpse Beast. If we don't leave now, it will be too late." Another figure whispered.

Lady Luo Ha's eyes flashed with an unusual light. "Is that what you all think?"

The several Kelo men looked at each other, not speaking; their silence was the answer.

"I do not think so. In these few days here, have you not noticed? This is a land of miracles."

Lady Luo Ha's voice was filled with a strange emotion.

"Have you ever seen trees and crops grow this fast? Have you ever lived in such good caves? Have you ever eaten such delicious food? Can you defeat any single one of their warriors?"

Lady Luo Ha waved her hand and said, "Those who want to leave are free to do so. I need to go see what I can do." She turned and walked toward the distance without looking back.

Although the several Kelo men were warriors, they had never been the ones to make decisions. After struggling for less than half a minute, they still followed. "Wait for us, Lady Luo Ha."

Zhao Feng stood on the city tower, gazing into the distance. The pitch-black world resembled a prehistoric beast, causing one to tremble and feel uneasy.

The white light emitted by the Bodhi Spirit Tree was the most reassuring thing in the dark night; of course, there was also the light of the torches on the city tower now—this was the power of civilization.

If there were a choice, Zhao Feng would not want to fight at night, but he had no other way.

The Rocky Pass was the best choice for blocking the Corpse Beast; by the time dawn arrived, the Corpse Beast would already be able to mass its troops under the city walls.

"The north wind is cold, the rain and snow are falling. The north wind is whistling, the rain and snow are thick..."

Amidst the desolate, ancient language, streams of mysterious energy swirled around Taoist Xuan Kong, and specks of clear light flickered like shining stars.

Taoist Xuan Kong stood on the ritual altar, his hands forming finger incantations, his feet stepping on the Seven Stars. A bamboo staff emitted a bright, translucent light, pointing straight at the firmament. A strange wind suddenly blew on the flat ground, drifting and floating straight into the black clouds in the distance.

The clear light, carrying the strange wind, shot into the clouds like a flying arrow. The cloud layer churned like hot oil dropped into cold water.

Whoosh...

The strong wind howled, rolling the dark, dense clouds and moving south at an even faster speed. In the blink of an eye, it blew away the impending heavy rain, scattering the clouds and dispersing the rain.

Watching the large flags flapping loudly in the wind, Zhao Feng laughed heartily; this battle was already half won. The System's resources were still accumulating, and warriors from the barracks were still appearing, slowly building up even stronger power.

"Giddyap, giddyap!"

Five knights whipped their horses into a gallop, racing swiftly through the desolate valley. The crisp sound of hooves echoed in the valley like a sudden downpour.

The valley had only been simply cleared and had no proper roads, so the horses' speed was not very fast; the knights still needed to carefully observe the path ahead in the night.

Fortunately, the torches that had been inserted onto the cliffs earlier had not yet gone out, so they did not have to advance in total darkness.

The knights, crouching low on their horses' backs, only focused on riding fast, ignoring the Corpse Beast chasing behind them. As long as they rushed to the predetermined location, they could escape with their lives.

At a distance of about one hundred meters, the herd of Corpse Beast rumbled toward them. The thunderous footsteps sounded like peals of thunder, and some scarlet eyes looked like small light bulbs, appearing especially ferocious!

Some of the faster Corpse Beast had already closed in to twenty meters! The knights could even vaguely smell the nauseating stench of corpses!

The intersection was already visible ahead; the torches in the hands of the warriors of the Second Platoon of Huben were as bright as the stars, and two huge bonfires illuminated the vicinity as bright as day.

"Ready!" Platoon Leader Xu Feng of the First Platoon of Huben had fine beads of sweat on his palms; his eyes were wide like copper bells, staring intently at the herd of beasts below.

"Faster! Faster!" The five galloping horses exerted all their strength, rushing out of the valley.

"Release!" Xu Feng let out a loud roar, and the huge boulders piled on both sides of the cliff rumbled down like a waterfall from the Milky Way.

Rumble!

Countless boulders struck the ground like hail, kicking up dust that filled the sky. Whether it was a giant beast five or six meters tall or the dense swarm of small beasts, all had their bones shattered and tendons broken in this catastrophic impact, turning into mush.

"Release the straw!"

A large number of System notification sounds rang out, and in an instant, an unknown amount of transformation points were credited to his account.

Zhao Feng, riding on the back of a Hammerhead Rhino, did not have time to look closely. His expression turned solemn. "It has begun! Daoist Master Xuan Kong, let us hurry and prepare as well!"

"Immeasurable Daoist Venerable! Leader, rest assured, we will definitely be victorious!" Daoist Master Xuan Kong said solemnly. The Hammerhead Rhino beneath him neighed loudly, speeding up its run.

On the cliff, two teams of blue-robed sorcerers had one hand forming a sword finger and the other holding a bamboo staff. Their large sleeves fluttered, and their footwork was uniform. They shouted, "Heaven and Earth Infinite, Bing Fire Spell, Command!"

Where their sword fingers pointed, beautiful magic arrays shining with fiery red light appeared out of thin air. As those arrays flashed with red light, dense fireballs appeared abruptly and fell downward.

No sooner said than done. Those fireballs landed on the Corpse Beast and the straw, emitting violent explosions.

"Boom! Boom!"

There were explosions everywhere, and the entire valley was being consumed by a violent blaze!

The dry straw ignited upon contact with fire, gradually forming a prairie fire! Even standing on the cliff, one could feel the monstrous heat!

The bodies of the Corpse Beast had already undergone changes; dry grease hung on their bodies, making them even easier to ignite.

The valley was full of running balls of fire; they had no sense of pain, only moving silently toward places with a large number of living beings.

The people on the cliff were discovered by the Corpse Beast!

Some Corpse Beast intended to rush up the cliff, but having no path, they paced around at the bottom of the mountain. The Corpse Beast from behind continued to pour into the valley, maximizing the power of the fire.

"Wooden barriers! Deploy the wooden barriers!"

The Second Platoon of Huben blocked the outside of the valley. Although it was blocked by a large number of boulders and completely sealed off, it was still possible for Corpse Beast to rush out. Platoon Leader Deng Mao loudly ordered his warriors to place the wooden barriers made of logs at the valley entrance as a screen.

"Ready!"

Borrowing the residual light from the torches on the cliff, the warriors of the First Platoon of Huben saw some Corpse Beast struggling to climb up. The number was not large, but it still put great pressure on the warriors. Gu, the squad leader of the first squad, whispered to his warriors to prepare, tightening his grip on the sharp stone axe in his hand.

The grinding craftsmanship of the Blacksmith Shop was very exquisite; Gu even felt that he could chop off the head of a Hammerhead Rhino with one axe.

The First Squad of Archers was stationed here in cooperation with the First Squad of Huben. The squad leader, Phoenix, was a formidable female warrior. The spearmen under her command were already gripping their stone spears tightly, bodies slightly crouched, ready to throw their stone spears at any moment.

More than ten ape-like Corpse Beast were climbing up quickly, using both hands and feet.

Among the jagged rocks, their shriveled and ferocious bodies could be seen.

The cliff, which did not have a very steep incline, could not stop them.

The warriors hid behind the boulders, watching the hillside in front of them; as soon as they showed their heads, they would receive a violent blow!

"Shoot!" Phoenix gave a loud order, and at the same time, the stone spear in her hand shot out like lightning. Thirteen stone spears were densely fired, shooting the three Corpse Beast that had just poked their heads out into honeycombs.

Four Corpse Beast crossed the bodies of their companions and lunged fiercely; the twenty-meter distance was covered in the blink of an eye.

"Roar!" Gu let out a roar, his stone axe fiercely hacking into the head of a Corpse Beast with a bang. That Corpse Beast's head instantly burst, and it fell to the ground. The warriors beside him took large strides, roaring repeatedly, and engaged in a melee with the Corpse Beast.

"Charge!" Phoenix gave a crisp shout and rushed up with her spearmen. In close-quarters combat, throwing spears was likely to cause friendly fire, and since their melee ability was not bad, forming a formation could also help.
