38: Chapter 38 The Prosperous Qin Tribe

"Heave-ho, heave-ho!" Two strong Farmers dragged a stone roller, shouting chants and working until they were drenched in sweat.

"Thump, thump..." Women with slightly less strength held roughly processed wooden poles, tamping down the road surface.

This was the road construction team. Zhao Feng planned to connect the quarry to the tribe; this dirt road was about 10 kilometers long and 1 meter wide.

After roughly leveling the road with stone shovels, they used stone rollers to flatten it, and finally, wooden poles to tamp it down, creating a simple road.

The matching wheelbarrows were already in development. Once the research was complete, large amounts of stone, wood, and food could be quickly transported via the road, greatly accelerating the speed of resource collection.

The tribe's Farmers were increasing rapidly, and houses were being built one after another. Besides the 20 Farmers sent to build the road, the remaining Farmers gradually began constructing various functional buildings in the tribe.

At this moment, the tribe already had 50 Farmers: 20 were building the road, 5 were planting trees, 15 were gathering food and logging, and the remaining 10 Farmers were concentrated on constructing buildings.

The first to be built was the granary, a cylindrical building with a pointed roof.

The granary's outer walls were of an earth-and-wood structure, made by pounding earth mixed with straw, making them both sturdy and moisture-proof. The roof was woven from wheat straw and emitted a faint, fresh fragrance.

Two Farmers walked into the main entrance of the granary, and when they came out, they were carrying hoes, wearing straw hats, and holding small straw baskets.

They walked to a low-lying area and started digging; it looked like they had truly become real Farmers.

They first dug ditches and then tilled the land. Their movements sounded slow but were actually very fast; in just a short while, they had prepared two plots of dry land, each about a hundred square meters. It seemed the mysterious power of the System had changed everything around the Farmers.

In the blink of an eye, they were sowing seeds, and soon after, tender green sprouts could be seen stretching their soft bodies as they emerged.

The remaining Farmers continued to build the Daoist temple and the shrine. After consuming 200 wood and 200 stone, both were quickly constructed one after the other.

The structure of the Daoist temple was very simple, divided into a front hall and a back hall.

The front hall was for worship, and the back hall was for living.

Zhao Feng walked in with great interest. Upon entering, he found the Hall of Morality. Above, there were no deities worshipped, but rather a black and white Yin and Yang symbol.

In front of the Yin and Yang symbol, a censer emitted curling wisps of smoke. An old Daoist with disheveled hair sat cross-legged on a prayer mat, his back to the two who had entered.

The old Daoist heard the footsteps, pressed his right hand to the ground, and stood up. He bowed to Zhao Feng with a traditional Daoist salute, "Immeasurable Longevity, this old Daoist, Daoist Master Xuan Kong, greets the Chief."

The old Daoist had graying hair, loosely tied at his forehead with a rattan vine.

He had a lean appearance, with three strands of long beard hanging down his chest.

His cheeks were rosy, and his eyes were bright and spirited.

His not-so-tall frame was draped in a deep blue linen robe, making him look very clean and refreshing.

In his right hand, he held a bamboo staff worn yellow from handling. The bamboo staff looked smooth and crystalline, seeming to possess a strange power.

"Greetings, Daoist Master Xuan Kong." Zhao Feng hurriedly bowed, and Xiao Luo, standing beside him, quickly tried to mimic him with an awkward bow.

"Chief, there is no need for such formalities. I am the leader of the Sorcerers. Would you like me to introduce them?"

Zhao Feng was very puzzled; the way this age of empires opened was wrong! Not only were the buildings different, but Daoists had appeared as well. What kind of heavily modified version was this!

"I will trouble you, Daoist Master!"

"Sorcerers are people who control the mysterious forces of heaven and earth. We can be divided into five categories based on the powers we master: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. We can serve as warriors, and we can also promote favorable weather, cure illnesses, and bring peace to the people," the old Daoist said with some pride.

Zhao Feng was very happy; he had actually obtained such powerful forces!

"Then can you move mountains and fill seas, and achieve immortality?"

The old Daoist was stunned for a moment, "Chief, where did you get such an idea? Our abilities as Sorcerers are merely to shatter boulders within twenty paces and to summon clouds and rain based on the weather. As for lifespan, we only live a few years longer than ordinary people."

Zhao Feng was also stunned, then immediately relieved, "That's true. If one could easily obtain the power of an Immortal, then what would be the point of those military camps and such?"

"Then I will trouble you for your assistance, Daoist Master."

"It is my pleasure."

The two took their leave. Zhao Feng took a moment to check the recruitment interface. The recruitment of Sorcerers was quite peculiar; it required the Elemental Pool in the Daoist temple to be full to recruit one Sorcerer, and it also required 100 food and 10 wood.

By the time Zhao Feng and the other came out, the shrine was almost finished. The appearance of the shrine was similar to the Daoist temple, and both were currently very rudimentary.

After waiting a while longer, it was finally completed. The two walked in with great interest, and sure enough, there was an old monk in the front hall. The old monk was about 50 years old and looked kind and benevolent. The old monk worshipped a cluster of Buddha light, and he called himself Wugou.

The shrine could recruit Monks. These Monks knew martial arts and also possessed special abilities like persuasion and healing. Additionally, they had a strong ability to purify evil forces. Recruiting Monks also required the Buddha Power Pool to be full of Buddha Power, as well as 100 food and 10 wood.

The Blacksmith Shop, archery range, and stables were finally completed before dusk. Besides military equipment, the Blacksmith Shop could also supply civilian equipment. Zhao Feng and the other changed into new linen clothes, which looked much better than the previous off-the-shoulder style.

The Shaman researching the wheelbarrows also moved in. With the tools, the progress was much faster.

After the archery range was finished, Zhao Feng recruited 10 Javelin Throwers and 10 Slingers. In this way, the defense of the wooden wall was strengthened, and it was no longer just a paper tiger.

The stables could currently only recruit Scout Cavalry; this unit type was not strong in combat, but it was very useful.

The next step was to collect metal. Looking at the terrifying number of 2000 metal required for the age upgrade, he knew that exploring for mineral deposits could not be delayed, and the threat of the werewolves was also imminent!

Lady Luo Ha and a few other Kelo People were looking around the tribe when they were sent by Zhao Feng to join the gathering. The few Kelo People climbing the tall fruit trees to pick fruit were so willing, bursting with energy that far exceeded what they had shown in their original tribe. Of course, looking at their round bellies, one could tell that many of the fruits had ended up in their own pockets.

Zhao Feng knew what they were doing and considered this as truly accepting them. Just as he was modifying the Bodhi Spirit Tree, Meng came looking for him.

"Chief, seeing that the tribe is growing bigger day by day, I wonder what name you plan to give our tribe, so that all the tribes will hear of our prestige?"

As the military leader appointed by Zhao Feng, Meng was very competent. However, while training the warriors, he discovered that the flag was completely blank. When the warriors spoke of the tribe, they could only call it 'our tribe,' and it was very troublesome to discuss things with the few Kelo People. That was when he remembered that the tribe did not actually have a name.

"This is the first tribe of our descendants of Yan and Huang on an alien planet, and also the first nation. Since it is the beginning, let us borrow the prestige of the First Emperor and call it Qin! Let the prestige of Great Qin shine forever in this world."
