66: Chapter 66 A formidable defense system, the long-awaited sunshine

Early the next morning, Zhao Feng went outside to check the progress of the city walls.

As expected, after working through the night, the city walls surrounding the small base were fully completed.

The tall city walls still smelled of raw earth. Zhao Feng couldn't help but marvel that even if modern excavators and other construction machinery were all deployed, they likely wouldn't match the speed of the Farmers.

A Farmer appeared every fifteen minutes, totaling four per hour. From last night until now, about twelve hours had passed, and a total of forty-eight Farmers had been produced. With a current total of one hundred and sixty-eight Farmers, the construction speed was absolutely blistering.

The city walls formed a rectangle, approximately four hundred meters long and two hundred meters wide. Given the current garrison, the defense was still quite thin. Fortunately, the barracks were constantly recruiting soldiers, and squads of troops were continuously assembling, bolstering the war strength of the Qin Army.

Of course, this situation came at the cost of consuming countless resources. Fortunately, the small bases built along the march had already begun production and were slowly turning from loss to profit.

If it weren't for the backing of the ever-growing Qin City, Zhao Feng wouldn't be able to afford such a construction-heavy strategy.

The city walls could defend against most Corpse Beasts, but for Epic-tier Corpse Beasts capable of attacking the walls, they were not an impenetrable barrier.

To deal with massive Corpse Beasts, tall arrow towers were built behind the city walls. These arrow towers were not like the previous watchtowers; they were equipped with massive ballistae. These ballistae could launch arm-thick, three-meter-long javelins up to two hundred meters away, posing a huge threat even to Epic-tier Corpse Beasts.

In addition, a siege equipment factory was under construction. Once completed, ballistae and catapults would be added to the arsenal, delivering devastating blows to the Corpse Beasts.

Fire arrow technology had also been researched and completed, allowing Archers to play a decisive role. The effectiveness of a sea of fire had been perfectly demonstrated at Beast Control Pass, and this was an important part of Zhao Feng's combat strategy.

The Duerte People and the Kilian Tribe, who had set up their camps next to the Qin Army's garrison, were stunned early that morning.

Last night, it had still been a chaotic construction site, but in just one night's work, it had turned into towering structures.

The tall, dark city walls were lined with dense battlements, with a tower every certain distance. Behind the walls were even taller arrow towers, and the black flags flying on these structures reminded the people of these primitive tribes that this place belonged to Qin.

The Qin Tribe had a habit of eating breakfast. The newly joined Farmers became chefs, transporting cartloads of meat, flour, apples, and other food from the warehouse to cook for everyone on simple stoves.

The steam from the steamers made the area behind the city walls look shrouded in white mist. A gust of wind blew, and the mist, carrying the aroma of meat buns, wafted into the noses of the Duerte People and the Kilian Tribe, instantly making them feel like they were in heaven, their cravings stirred in an instant.

People from both tribes were restless, and their respective leaders and captains were trying to suppress the commotion.

When the aroma of meat soup wafted over, they were drooling all over the ground.

Pairs of eyes stared fixedly at Chieftain Lie Dao and the army, making them feel too embarrassed to even wipe away their drool.

"What exactly is Qin City cooking that smells so good? Eating so early, isn't that too wasteful?"

The resentment of the two reached the skies, but there was no help for it; who told them the other side had such delicious food?

Typical primitive tribes only ate one meal a day, and that was only when food was plentiful. If food was scarce, only the warriors could eat, so one could imagine how intense their craving for food was.

Unable to bear the resentful gazes of their subordinates, the two issued orders one after another.

"Eat! We're eating too."

The tribesmen, who were nearly going mad with hunger, hurriedly took out shriveled dried mushrooms from the large packs on their backs and gnawed on them viciously. But no matter how they ate, the dry, raw taste in their mouths couldn't compare to the meaty fragrance from across the way.

"Master, they must be dying of hunger, right? Tee-hee." Xiao Luo took a bite of a bun, the delicious meat juices from the filling entering her mouth, fragrant and tasty, making her eyes crinkle with a smile.

"That's for sure. Without a comparison, how would they know the benefits of Qin City? Let's keep this up for a few days before proceeding to the next step. I don't believe I won't be able to subdue them." Zhao Feng leaned on the battlement, looking down at the two tribal camps not far away, and said with a smile.

Besides those military technologies, the best progress of the Bronze Age was also an important part of diet. This place was different from history; foods like buns appeared very early. Although the flour couldn't compare to that of his previous life, it was irresistible to primitive people who had only ever eaten chunks of meat.

"Let's go, keep practicing with the blade. In such a dangerous place, you can't survive without the ability to protect yourself."

"Okay, Master."

"Chirp chirp!" The Cloud-Soaring Sparrow circling in the sky let out a crisp cry and landed on the ground. Zhao Feng, carrying his blade aura on his back, mounted the Cloud-Soaring Sparrow, waved at Xiao Luo and Meng, and soared into the sky.

The Cloud-Soaring Sparrow flew higher and higher. As a super creature, it could reach places that ordinary creatures could never reach, such as the stratosphere. The planetary atmosphere is generally divided from the inside out into the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, ionosphere, and exosphere.

Common phenomena like wind, rain, thunder, and lightning basically occur in the troposphere, where airflow is intense. Zhao Feng had never been to such a high place before, and watching the ground get further and further away, he felt dizzy.

The Cloud-Soaring Sparrow flew straight up and dove into the thick cloud layer.

Inside the clouds, the wind howled, and visibility was zero. Zhao Feng squeezed his eyes shut and just held onto the Cloud-Soaring Sparrow tightly.

I don't know how much time had passed before the howling wind stopped. The Cloud-Soaring Sparrow let out a crisp cry, and the flight smoothed out. Zhao Feng opened his eyes; below him was a thick layer of gray clouds, while before him and even further away, it was all bright.

His cells were cheering happily!

Sure enough, one could receive sunlight in the stratosphere. The golden sunlight emitted a dazzling brilliance, breaking through all darkness, and shone warmly on his body—it was truly a long-lost feeling.

The gloom accumulated in his heart was released at this moment. He greedily looked at the beautiful scenery of the stratosphere before stopping to conduct his own research.

He closed his eyes and activated microscope mode. Strands of bright yellow light entered his skin tissue, and his skin emitted a faint halo, seemingly storing this long-lost energy.

The experience points for Steel Body began to rise slowly!

0.501%, 0.502%...

After about five minutes, the halo on his body tissue stabilized. Zhao Feng had a feeling of being full, and the experience points for Steel Body could no longer increase.

His recharged body was full of energy; he felt like he could kill a cow with one punch.

Since he could absorb sunlight in the stratosphere, he would just make time to come up here to train every day. There was still something more important coming up: the decapitation operation!
