47: Chapter 47 The Tribe's Crisis

The devastating volcanic eruption had almost wiped out the nearby Corpse Trees and Corpse Beasts, leaving only a scattered few wandering slowly—these were the Corpse Beasts formed from humanoid life.

Looking closer, the Corpse Beast's skin was cracked and dry, clinging tightly to its body.

Long ages had stripped away almost every trace of the intelligence it once possessed, and only the tattered, fragmented animal skins could barely attest to the fact that it had originally been an intelligent creature.

Its withered eye sockets no longer held the lively, triple vertical pupils, but rather some shriveled black flesh. In a sudden instant, a wisp of ghostly red flame appeared within its dried-up eye sockets.

"Roar!" It roared at the sky. Although its shriveled vocal cords could no longer produce any sound, it needed to vent its excitement!

The surrounding Corpse Beasts were in a commotion; that there... seemed to be... a leader?

The volcanic ash falling from the sky had thinned out a bit, but Zhao Feng dared not wait any longer.

Wolfmen had already appeared in the vicinity. If he were to be surrounded by the main force of Wolfmen, although he would not be in mortal danger due to the Taichu Star, he would inevitably end up in a sorry state.

Zhao Feng carefully observed his surroundings first, then led the Cloud-Soaring Sparrow to sneak forward, choosing a direction opposite to the Wolfman siblings.

The volcanic ash on the ground was thick; the wind would sweep away one layer, only for another to arrive, leaving everything gray and hazy. The man and the bird trudged forward with difficulty. Zhao Feng intended to make a detour before returning to the tribe, trying his best to avoid conflict with the main force of Wolfmen.

Suddenly, the Cloud-Soaring Sparrow stopped, its beautiful head looking around in confusion.

It suddenly stared toward the front left, the feathers on its neck bristling up, and its eyes flashing with a sharp light—it had made a discovery!

Zhao Feng also stopped, crouching slightly, his Great Dragon Fist ready to strike.

From within the snow-like dust, a lithe and massive body leaped out—it was indeed a Wolf Cavalry.

Bam! Zhao Feng stepped forward, his body closing in like a nimble monkey, and one punch already slammed into the Wolfman's head.

Crack! Like a shattered watermelon, the Wolfman's head exploded, splashing red and white all over the ground.

Its body twitched a few times before falling off the wolf's back like a log.

Under Zhao Feng's deliberate sneak attack, the lone Wolfman was utterly powerless, unable to even sound an alarm.

The giant wolf was clearly stunned. Although it quickly regained its senses, Zhao Feng had already completed his breath cycle by then and delivered another punch capable of splitting stone monuments!

The giant wolf was sent flying to the side with a bang. The Cloud-Soaring Sparrow nearby seized the opportunity and delivered a lightning-fast peck directly at the giant wolf's hardest point—its head.

The Cloud-Soaring Sparrow was truly worthy of being a super creature; the giant wolf died on the spot without even having time to let out a groan.

"Well done!" Zhao Feng whispered in praise.

One after another, Zhao Feng encountered several more Wolfmen, all of whom he killed instantly with lightning speed, nipping the danger in the bud.

Zhao Feng felt somewhat smug.

Compared to himself in his previous life on Earth, he could now be considered highly skilled in martial arts.

Not to mention the increasingly miraculous effects of his Qi, the several Martial Skills he practiced had benefited him immensely. He had become stronger, more agile, and every movement he made carried immense power!

Just as he was feeling smug, Zhao Feng suddenly heard a soft "click" and felt his footing give way.

Oh no! Before Zhao Feng could react, his body plummeted downward. The Cloud-Soaring Sparrow let out a clear cry and jumped down after him.

After receiving Zhao Feng's warning, the Shaman quickly summoned Meng to arrange defensive matters.

The villagers working outside had already been persuaded to return. Fortunately, with the volcanic eruption and earthquakes occurring, everyone was already hiding within the tribe, so the tribe's transition to a state of alert was completed after only a few moments of commotion.

Given that the giant wolves were generally 1.6 meters tall, the three-meter-high city walls offered zero obstruction to them.

The giant wolves' jumping ability was not weak; even with a Wolfman on their backs, they could easily leap over the city walls.

The watchtowers were about nine meters high. Originally, the spear-throwers inside the watchtowers could see quite far, but the volcanic eruption had reduced visibility in the vicinity, which added a great deal of danger to what was originally a safe tribe.

Wolfmen were not mindless Corpse Beasts; ordinary traps were useless, and they had to rely on genuine strength.

At this moment, the Qin Tribe's military strength was not weak; compared to the tribe's population, it could even be considered militaristic.

Fewer than 300 Farmers were supporting a massive military force.

There were already two cohorts of Tiger Warriors. A "cohort" was a unit in the Qin Tribe's military system; three platoons made one cohort, plus 6 personal guards, making a total of 130 people per cohort, including the cohort commander.

There was also one cohort of Archer Warriors, one platoon of Scout Cavalry, one squad of Sorcerers, one squad of Monks, and 100 allied tribal soldiers, bringing the total number of warriors to 557. This did not even include irregular forces like the Leopard Dogs.

If the Wolfmen underestimated the enemy, it was hard to say who would emerge victorious.

Among these warriors, except for those who participated in the Great War at Beast Control Pass last time, all were of Mortal-rank Low-tier strength.

Of course, Sorcerers and Monks were Mortal-rank Mid-tier as soon as they were recruited; these were elite units and were not included in that count.

Regarding the situation where nothing could be seen, the Shaman and Meng had no good solution.

Although Taoist Xuan Kong could temporarily disperse the dust, it could not be sustained for long, so it was better not to use it at all.

Therefore, after discussing it, they decided to station one platoon of Tiger Warriors and one platoon of Archer Warriors on each side of the city walls, while the rest of the troops would prepare for battle in the barracks, ready to provide support at any time.

The sky quickly darkened, and nearby, only the white light of the Bodhi Spirit Tree continued to emit a faint glow.

The villagers had long since hidden in their houses. The entire tribe was deathly silent; even the insects were not chirping, and the surroundings were filled with a murderous aura.

Not far from the northern wall of the Qin Tribe, the Wolf Chief stood quietly behind a tall tree, looking from afar at where the Qin Tribe was located.

"This truly is a precious land bestowed by the gods; from now on, it will be ours." The Wolf Chief thought of how he would one day sire some wolf cubs here with a strong female wolfman, and he couldn't help but smile.

"Wolf Chief, Lang Yan is missing!" A Wolf Cavalryman ran over quickly and whispered.

The Wolf Chief frowned. In his eyes, this Lang Yan was a promising talent; how could he go missing at such a crucial moment?

However, as the saying went, the arrow was on the string and had to be fired. The Wolf Chief did not wait foolishly but continued to issue orders: "Have the rest of the infantry prepare; we will attack in a little while."

"Yes!"

Where was Lang Yan, who was on the Wolf Chief's mind, at this moment?

At this time, he was carefully scurrying about in a winding cave with his younger sister.

Ever since they entered this cave a short while ago, they had wandered further and further away and had actually gotten lost. After scurrying around for so long, they didn't even know where they had run to.

It was very dark in the cave; even with the Wolfmen's naturally good eyesight, they could only barely make out rough shapes.

This cave was very large, about three meters high, and the cave walls were covered with jagged stalactites, looking exceptionally hideous.

Lang Yan was not nervous. As an old hunter and a battle-hardened warrior, no difficulty could stump him; he was only a little worried about his younger sister.

Ye was only half a year old; when facing other fierce beasts, Ye was merely a tender meal.

The dark cave was very damp, and one could hear the sound of water droplets falling into a pool.

Lang Yan suddenly became somewhat restless. He uneasily wagged his tail, and the hairs all over his body bristled slightly. A warrior's instinct told him that danger was approaching!

What could it be? Lang Yan's ears twitched, his body tensed up, and he leaned against a stalactite pillar, listening intently.

He was so vigilant, yet even so, he did not know that the danger had already arrived!
