147: Chapter 147 My brother isn't very bright.
Iron Demon immediately straightened up and strode off in the direction from which his underling had run.
Wang Lin stood up, intending to follow, but Chu Tian grabbed him.
"Wang Lin, what are you doing? Are you looking for death? There are two LV6s on the other side; you can't beat them!"
Wang Lin looked down at Chu Tian. "You stay here. I'm going over to take a look."
Chu Tian wanted to grab him again, but Wang Lin had already turned and walked away. After a moment's thought, Chu Tian stood up and chased after him.
Wang Lin followed behind Iron Demon, running through carriage after carriage.
Suddenly, the train seemed to slow down.
The scenery outside the window shifted from rushing past to drifting slowly by, and the sound of the train wheels against the tracks grew quieter.
A flash of unease crossed Iron Demon's eyes, and he quickened his pace.
When Iron Demon rushed into the foremost carriage, the door was open, and the wind whipped inside, making his clothes snap loudly.
In the distance, the front half of the train was speeding away.
On the tracks, the gap between the two sections of the train was widening.
It was as if the train had been sliced in half; the front portion was speeding away, while the half he was in could only watch helplessly as the distance grew.
The others from the Red Snake Gang caught up. Green Python stood beside Iron Demon, his face deathly pale. "The track has been severed. What do we do?"
Iron Demon's eyes narrowed. "Pursue."
He activated his Superpower, [Metal Throne].
The section of the train Iron Demon was in began to resonate...
The wheels, the tracks, the carriages—all the metal trembled, responding to his call.
Iron Demon took control of the rear section of the train, forcing it to accelerate once more.
The grinding of the wheels against the tracks produced a piercing screech, sparks showered everywhere, and the carriage shook violently, the floor undulating like waves.
The rear section of the train surged forward, chasing after the speeding front half.
Wang Lin hid in a corner, watching Iron Demon's back, the corners of his mouth curling up slightly.
Very good. This was exactly what he wanted...
To be able to make a powerless train run again.
This was [Metal Throne]: it could control all metal within a fifty-meter radius. The higher the level, the greater the range of control.
The gap between the two sections of the train narrowed.
Iron Demon stood at the doorway of the carriage and could already see someone standing at the end of the front section.
Lin Yuanzhou watched the train catching up from behind, then turned and walked into the carriage.
Before long, with a deafening "clang," the two sections finally reconnected.
The force of the impact shook the entire train.
Iron Demon steadied himself and was the first to cross over, with Green Python close behind, followed by several of his trusted underlings.
Inside the carriage, Iron Demon's gaze swept over the passengers one by one. They all kept their heads lowered, not daring to look at him.
Iron Demon walked through carriage after carriage, his gaze sweeping over every face.
In the next carriage, he saw several Red Snake Gang members lying on the ground, but they were already dead.
Iron Demon frowned slightly and continued walking forward.
If they were dead, they were dead; only the living mattered.
But Iron Demon hadn't clearly seen what his target looked like. Now that the entire train was packed with people, how was he supposed to find him?
Green Python leaned in close to his ear. "There are too many people; it's impossible to tell who it is. What do we do?"
Iron Demon snorted coldly. "Impossible to tell? Then kill them all. If we kill everyone until there's only one left, that's surely the one."
Iron Demon's expression remained blank as he made a slight swiping motion in the air with his finger. "Do it."
The underlings nearby immediately drew their knives and walked toward the nearest passenger.
It was a middle-aged man, his head lowered, his shoulders trembling.
The underling walked up to him, raised his blade, and pointed it at the man's chest.
Just then, a voice came from the back of the carriage. "Stop."
The underling stopped, and Iron Demon turned his head to look in the direction of the voice.
Chu Tian was standing in the aisle, his legs trembling, his very lips quivering.
Yet his eyes were locked onto Iron Demon, refusing to back down.
"Who are you?" Iron Demon asked.
Chu Tian's voice was loud, as if he were trying to bolster his own courage. "I am a Night Watcher."
"A Reserve Member of the Night Watchers. I won't let you slaughter innocent people."
Iron Demon looked at him and suddenly laughed.
"A Reserve Member? You don't even have an official badge, yet you're trying to boss me around?"
"Forget Reserve Members; even official members have died at my hands in no small numbers."
"I let you off before because I was in a good mood. I didn't expect you brat to come back seeking death."
Chu Tian didn't speak, nor did he retreat.
His legs were still trembling, but his feet were as if rooted to the spot; he didn't take a single step back.
Just then, Wang Lin stepped out from behind Chu Tian.
He looked at Iron Demon, a smile spreading across his face—a smile that wasn't sincere, but looked very natural.
"Sorry, sorry. This brother of mine isn't quite right in the head; he's prone to acting on impulse. Please, carry on, carry on."
With that, Wang Lin pulled Chu Tian away.
Chu Tian wanted to say something more, but Wang Lin clamped a hand over his mouth.
Chu Tian tried to struggle, but Wang Lin's strength was too great; he pinned Chu Tian and dragged him backward.
Chu Tian's legs kicked against the floor a couple of times as he was dragged away by Wang Lin.
His voice squeezed out from between Wang Lin's fingers, muffled: "Wang Lin... you... let me go... they... they're going to kill people..."
Wang Lin ignored him and kept dragging him along.
He dragged Chu Tian to a corner of the last carriage and pushed him down onto a seat.
Chu Tian looked up at Wang Lin. "Why did you stop me? They're bad people! They're going to kill people! I'm a Night Watcher—I can't just stand by and do nothing."
Wang Lin looked at him. "You're a Night Watcher, not Superman."
"You can't even beat an LV3. If you go up there, you're just throwing your life away."
"If you die, they'll still keep killing. Those passengers will still die."
"In the end, you'll just be dead, and nothing will have changed."
Chu Tian wanted to argue back, but found he couldn't say anything.
Wang Lin continued, "Stupidity needs to have value; throwing your life away has none."
Chu Tian said, "So what? Even if I die, I have to stop them."
"Otherwise, I won't be able to sleep soundly."
Wang Lin looked at him and said in a low voice, "Wait. Things haven't reached that point yet."
"Wait a little longer. If they actually start killing, I'll go with you."
"For now, we wait. OK?"
Chu Tian stopped struggling and nodded.
Wang Lin's gaze turned toward the end of the carriage.
Iron Demon raised his hand again. "Continue. Kill them one by one until that person comes out."
The underlings raised their blades again and walked toward the crowd.
Just then, another voice called out from the crowd. "Stop!"
A middle-aged man stood up from his seat. "I'm the one you're looking for. Let them go; they're innocent."
"Let them go?" Iron Demon sneered, his tone full of mockery.
"What leverage do you have to negotiate with me?"
Iron Demon raised both hands, activating his Superpower, [Metal Throne].
The entire train began to tremble.
With a deafening roar, sparks showered everywhere.
Iron Demon forcibly tore the locomotive from the rest of the train.
The locomotive completely detached from the rest of the train, and like a wild horse breaking free from its reins, it sped off into the depths of the tunnel.
