155: Chapter 155 Interrogation (Part 2)
"Iron Demon wanted to kill me, and I wanted to kill him. But his defense was too strong, I couldn't break it, so I had no choice but to use that skill."
"You know the situation back then. I clearly had the ability to escape. But I didn't run. For the sake of those passengers, I chose to stay and fight Iron Demon."
"Is there something wrong with protecting passengers and fighting against evil forces?"
Shanmao's face changed: "Let's put Iron Demon aside for a moment. As a Calamity, you must have eaten quite a few civilians, right?"
"I never eat humans."
Shanmao's face turned even greener: "You're lying! If a Calamity doesn't eat humans, they lose their sanity. You managed to reach LV4, you must have eaten a lot of people."
"I never eat humans. I eat Mist Beasts."
"Mist Beasts? Don't tell me you started eating Mist Beasts the moment you Awakened?"
Wang Lin nodded.
Shanmao was completely caught off guard that the kid in front of him could lie without even blushing.
A newly Awakened LV1, going to hunt Mist Beasts?
Even the lowest-level Mist Beast is stronger than an Awakened of the same level. An LV1 Mist Beast has the build of an ox, the Speed of a leopard, and claws that can tear through iron plating. An ordinary person would die just by encountering one.
Shanmao's voice turned cold: "You just Awakened, on what basis can you hunt Mist Beasts?"
Wang Lin looked at him and smiled: "Because I was born with divine strength."
Shanmao fell silent. He knew Wang Lin had calculated that he had no evidence and couldn't do anything to him.
Shanmao's face darkened completely: "Wang Lin, don't force me to take action."
"I advise you to be honest and tell me exactly how many people you've eaten, otherwise you'll be in for a rough time."
As he finished speaking, he raised his hand and clenched his fist, his knuckles cracking with a series of sounds.
"What, can the Night Watchers resort to force now?"
Wang Lin raised his hand and pointed at the black camera in the corner of the ceiling; the red light on the lens was still blinking.
"There's a camera here. If this gets out, I'm afraid it won't be very good for the reputation of you Night Watchers."
Shanmao didn't look back; he raised his hand and waved it lightly in the direction of the camera.
The red light on the lens went out.
Shanmao put his hand down and looked at Wang Lin, a smile returning to his face.
"Now the camera is gone. We can have a proper talk, right?"
Shanmao stood up, his round body walking out from behind the desk like a moving mountain.
Wang Lin smiled, stood up as well, and pulled his hands out of his pockets.
"Indeed, we can have a proper talk. I've been tolerating you for a long time."
Shanmao narrowed his eyes: "Tolerating me? Do you know where the last person who told me that is now?"
"Where?"
Shanmao's voice turned cold: "In the hospital."
Wang Lin smiled: "That's perfect, you can go to the hospital and visit him."
As soon as he finished speaking, the cyan light under Wang Lin's feet lit up.
Shanmao's fist was faster; dark red light condensed on his fist, and he smashed it towards Wang Lin's face.
Wang Lin didn't dodge; he tilted his body slightly, and that fist grazed past his ear.
He pulled his right hand out of his pocket and smashed a fist into Shanmao's chest.
Shanmao's body retreated two steps, backing up to the one-way glass window where Shawn was standing.
Shanmao put one hand behind his back and made an OK gesture.
Outside the window, Shawn stood behind the one-way glass, saw the OK gesture, took out his phone from his pocket, opened the recording mode, and aimed it at the interrogation room.
Record first, wait for Wang Lin to make the first move.
Shanmao was responsible for provoking the opponent, he was responsible for recording the evidence.
They had been playing this trick for many years; from Calamities, traitors, and spies to captives from other organizations, they had never failed.
The camera was turned off, so only the scene inside the interrogation room could be captured; he wouldn't be filmed outside.
As long as Wang Lin struck someone, this video would be ironclad proof.
The Night Watchers were just acting according to the law.
Shawn held his phone steadily, the screen reflecting Shanmao's back.
Wang Lin looked at Shanmao, showing no intention of making a move.
Shawn frowned.
Just then, the floor of the interrogation room began to shake.
A wall of earth rose from the ground, blocking the one-way glass window and also blocking Shawn's lens.
The screen was left with nothing but an earthy yellow.
Shawn's pupils constricted violently. He put down his phone and turned to press the camera switch.
As long as he turned the camera switch on, the effect would be the same.
Shawn's hand pressed onto the camera switch, and at that moment, a purple arc of electricity drilled out from the gap in the camera.
The arc flashed a few times and then went out; the camera short-circuited directly and was even emitting smoke.
Shawn's expression finally changed.
Wang Lin killed Iron Demon on the train. Iron Demon was LV6, and Shanmao was also LV6. It was obvious that Shanmao was no match for Wang Lin.
Shawn ran towards the interrogation room.
Pushing open the door, he saw Shanmao lying on the ground, bruised and swollen, blood at the corner of his mouth, his left eye heavily bruised, his body curled into a ball.
Wang Lin stood beside him, still in the same state, hands in his pockets.
Even his clothes weren't messy, and his hair wasn't messy either.
Shawn pointed at Shanmao on the ground, his tone stern: "Wang Lin, you dare to openly attack the Night Watchers?"
"Do you know what kind of place this is? This is the Night Watchers headquarters."
Just as he finished speaking, Shanmao on the ground also slowly climbed up.
"Hehe... openly attacking the Night Watchers, that's quite a serious charge. And it's at the Night Watchers headquarters, no less."
"At the very least, you'll be sentenced to a dozen or twenty years, and at worst, you'll be executed."
Shawn added coldly: "Wang Lin, you're a smart person; you should know the severity of the situation."
"There's only one way to save you now."
Shanmao chimed in: "That's right, that's right, and that is to join the Night Watchers."
"This way, we'll all be on the same side, and internal conflicts will be handled internally. Don't you agree?"
Wang Lin smiled: "So that's the idea you two had."
Shanmao's eyes brightened, and Shawn's brows relaxed slightly.
They thought Wang Lin was about to give in. They had to remember, this was the Night Watchers headquarters; it wasn't a place where just anyone could act wildly.
It seemed Wang Lin was a smart person after all.
Wang Lin's gaze swept past Shawn's shoulder and landed in the corridor—there was no one.
Then he withdrew his gaze, his palm split open, and a black Tentacles drilled out, wrapping around Shawn's wrist.
Shawn's pupils constricted violently, his body carried by the force, flying towards Wang Lin.
"Wang Lin, you dare..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Wang Lin's left hand was already pressed onto his shoulder.
Wang Lin looked down at him: "You tell me, do I dare?"
...
A few minutes later, Shawn and Shanmao lay on the ground, bruised and swollen, gasping for breath.
There were several bruises on Shawn's face, and the blood at the corner of his mouth hadn't dried yet.
Shanmao wasn't doing any better; his face, already swollen from Wang Lin's beating, had added a few new injuries.
His left eye couldn't be opened at all, his right cheek was swollen high, and his lips were split in two places.
The two of them lay on the ground, one leaning against the wall, the other sprawled out.
