153: Chapter 153 I'll Make a Phone Call

More people began to retreat, fleeing from the blood-soaked young man.

Wang Lin turned his head and looked at them.

As his gaze swept over them, it felt like being cut by a blade, and they took a few more steps back.

Even Chu Tian's eyes revealed shock.

He had assumed Wang Lin was an Awakened, just here in the Holy City on business.

He hadn't expected him to be a Calamity.

In his upbringing, a Calamity was an existence that had to be eliminated.

Wang Lin looked at him and smiled: "That's right, I am a Calamity. Is there a problem?"

"You are a Night Watcher, does that mean you have to arrest me?"

Chu Tian's eyes were full of struggle: "I… I don't know… In the Night Watchers' regulations, seeing a Calamity eat people means it must be eliminated."

Wang Lin looked at him: "Then what if the Calamity eats bad people? Like Iron Demon."

Chu Tian frowned. His instructor had said that Calamities get addicted to eating people; once they eat the first one, they want a second.

If they don't eat people, a Calamity will lose its sanity and become a monster that only knows how to kill.

Calamities can also eat Mist Beasts, but that method is more dangerous, and few Calamities do so.

Wang Lin looked at him and continued: "So, are you going to arrest me?"

Chu Tian's throat felt blocked by something: "I… I…"

Before he could finish, a hand rested on his shoulder.

Lin Yuanzhou didn't know when he had walked over: "Hundreds of years ago, the moment the Mist descended, the world's structure changed."

"Calamities are not humanity's enemies; our common enemy is the unknown creatures outside the Mist."

"The upper echelons of the Night Watchers often cooperate with Calamities. Where do you think those sentries patrolling the wilderness come from?"

"Who do you think leads those squads that go deep into the Mist Forest to execute secret missions?"

Chu Tian was stunned. He had heard his instructor say that some Night Watcher sentries were indeed Calamities.

Their senses are much sharper than an Awakened's, and they can detect dangers that ordinary people cannot.

Lin Yuanzhou turned around, reached out his hand, and looked at Wang Lin: "Thank you for saving my life. I am Lin Yuanzhou of the Miracle Company."

Wang Lin shook that hand: "My name is Wang Lin. You are from the Miracle Company, so do you know Jin Yuanbao?"

"That is the Third Young Master of our Miracle Company. That document was meant to be delivered into his hands."

"Speaking of the document…" Wang Lin remembered something.

He lightly brushed his other hand over his space ring, and the document appeared in his hand out of thin air.

"This is yours, right? Returning it to you. By the way, say hello to Jin Yuanbao for me."

Lin Yuanzhou saw the space ring on Wang Lin's hand. He remembered that this was a ring the Third Young Master often wore.

Now that it was in Wang Lin's hands, it seemed their relationship must be quite good…

"Thank you, I will definitely deliver it to the Third Young Master…"

Not long after, the sound of engines came from afar; it was an armored vehicle of the Night Watchers.

The vehicle body was black, with thick steel plating and bulletproof glass, and a machine gun mounted on the roof, its muzzle pointed toward the wilderness.

The vehicle stopped, the door opened, and two people stepped out.

The one walking in front was a tall man, in his early thirties, wearing a black trench coat with a Night Watcher badge pinned to his left breast pocket.

"Night Watcher, Shawn."

Behind him followed a short, chubby middle-aged man, over forty years old, who smiled like a Maitreya Buddha. His codename was Mountain Cat.

"Yo, it's quite lively here."

Shawn glanced at him, and Mountain Cat obediently shut his mouth.

Shawn walked toward the crowd, his gaze sweeping over the passengers and looking at the corpses.

Chu Tian stepped out and performed a Night Watcher salute, right hand in a fist placed over his left chest.

"Report, sir. Night Watcher Reserve Member Chu Tian, reporting to you."

Shawn glanced at him and nodded.

Chu Tian recounted everything that had happened in the tunnel in detail,

from when the Red Snake Gang boarded the train, to their hijacking of the train, robbing passengers, searching for their target, and finally, Iron Demon being defeated by Wang Lin.

Shawn listened without interrupting, his face devoid of any expression, his eyes never leaving Wang Lin.

Mountain Cat's eyes lit up as he looked at Wang Lin, as if he had discovered a treasure.

He wanted to go over and strike up a conversation, but hindered by Shawn being nearby, he dared not move.

After listening, Shawn was silent for a long while, then walked over to Wang Lin and reached out his hand: "Mr. Wang Lin, please cooperate with us for an investigation."

"Go to the Night Watcher headquarters in the Holy City; you can leave after making a statement."

Then he looked at Lin Yuanzhou: "Mr. Lin, you as well."

Lin Yuanzhou nodded and did not refuse.

Chu Tian walked up to Wang Lin, head lowered: "Wang Lin… I'm sorry… Regarding the fact that you are a Calamity, I had to tell the truth…"

Wang Lin looked at him, neither angry nor disappointed: "It's fine. It's actually good that I can catch a ride to the Holy City."

Chu Tian lowered his head even further, feeling even worse than before.

He knew that once Wang Lin went to the Night Watcher headquarters, it likely wouldn't be as simple as just making a statement.

A Calamity entering the Night Watcher headquarters wasn't for an investigation, but an interrogation.

He didn't know what would happen, nor did he know if Wang Lin would hate him. He followed behind Wang Lin and boarded the armored vehicle.

A few hours later, the group arrived at the Holy City.

The Night Watcher headquarters building was much more low-key than Wang Lin had imagined.

It wasn't some magnificent fortress, nor a gloomy dungeon, but an old gray-white building.

There were two stone pillars at the entrance, the paint on them peeling and mottled, revealing the gray-black stone underneath.

Wang Lin got out of the car and stretched, his bones cracking and popping.

"Finally arrived at the Holy City. I'll make a call to a friend."

Shawn glanced at him, said nothing, and just nodded slightly.

Mountain Cat didn't speak either, standing behind Shawn, smiling, like a cat sizing up a mouse.

Wang Lin took out his phone and dialed Bishop Qin Cang's number.

"Yes, it's me, I've arrived. Send someone to pick me up; I am currently at the Night Watcher headquarters in the Holy City."

"Nothing much. Just happened to take care of the Red Snake Gang's boss on the way here, the one called Iron Demon."

"Yes, yes, yes, that's the guy whose Superpower is [Metal Throne]. And one of his subordinates, called Green Python."

"It's fine… No need. No need… Just send anyone to pick me up."

"The Night Watchers said I can leave after making a statement, it'll be quick."

"Alright, alright, alright, then I'll hang up first."

Wang Lin hung up, put his phone back in his pocket, and said: "Alright, let's go in."

Just as they were about to walk in, Lin Yuanzhou also stepped out, holding his phone, hesitating for a moment.

"Wait a moment, I need to make a call too. I still have something here that needs to be delivered."

Shawn nodded again.

Lin Yuanzhou dialed the number. It rang a few times on the other end before being answered: "Hello, Miracle Company Holy City Headquarters, how may I help you?"
