22: Chapter 22 Reencounter with Su Xiaoxiao

It wasn't until Wang Lin approached and raised his wrist to reveal the bracelet that they finally made way.

Once he had walked far enough away, a young guard whispered to the person beside him, "Who is this guy... what's his background?"

The older guard stared at Wang Lin's retreating back and shook his head.

"I don't know, but remember this face."

"People like this either die quickly or live a long time."

Wang Lin walked into the camp and headed in the direction of Laifu Inn.

The road was bustling with people coming and going; some were setting up stalls, some were trading, and others were gathered in small groups, whispering to each other.

Wang Lin ignored the gazes and just kept walking forward.

Arriving at the entrance of Laifu Inn, he stopped and glanced at the crooked wooden sign.

[Laifu Inn — Lodging 80 Credits/Day]

He walked inside.

Behind the counter, the scrawny old man was dozing off. Hearing the commotion, he opened one eye.

Seeing Wang Lin's appearance, the old man was taken aback for a moment, then slowly sat up straight.

"You're back?"

"Yeah."

"Still staying?"

"Staying."

The old man didn't ask any more questions and took out his device.

Wang Lin extended his wrist.

Beep—

[7912] changed to [7832].

The old man glanced at the number, and his eyelid twitched.

But he didn't say anything, just put away the device and pointed upstairs. "Same place, 305."

The old man watched his back disappear around the corner of the stairs and muttered to himself, "What the hell!"

...

The next day at noon, Wang Lin was sitting in a restaurant by the plaza.

He had changed into a new outfit, a black combat suit. It wasn't a famous brand, but at least it was clean and neat, costing 200 Credits.

At his waist was a newly bought dagger, costing 150 Credits. The blade was sharp and had a good weight in his hand.

On the table were three dishes and a soup.

Braised pork belly, stir-fried seasonal vegetables, a plate of spiced beef, and a bowl of steaming hot bone soup.

Finally, it wasn't the 15-Credit bento box anymore.

This meal cost 120 Credits.

With over seven thousand Credits in hand, he finally didn't have to calculate every expenditure.

Wang Lin picked up a piece of braised pork belly and put it into his mouth.

The meat was stewed until soft and tender, rich in savory sauce, and melted in his mouth.

"This is what it means to live like a human."

He muttered, then picked up a chopstick full of beef.

Just then, a group of people walked into the restaurant.

Leading them was a young woman in her early twenties with a high ponytail, wearing a capable-looking combat suit with a short sword and dagger at her waist.

Behind her followed five or six people, both men and women, all carrying weapons.

Wang Lin didn't notice at first, just focused on eating.

But after the group walked in, one of the women suddenly stopped and stared straight at him.

"Is it you?"

Wang Lin looked up, stunned for a moment.

Su Xiaoxiao.

The woman he had saved from a cocoon in the Spider Nest yesterday.

She had changed into a different outfit today. The rope marks on her face were still there, but her complexion was much better than yesterday.

Wang Lin glanced at her, then lowered his head and continued eating.

Su Xiaoxiao: "..."

A man behind her leaned in and whispered, "Xiaoxiao, do you know him?"

Su Xiaoxiao didn't answer and walked to Wang Lin's table.

"Thank you for what happened yesterday."

Wang Lin picked up some food with his chopsticks, not looking up. "No need."

Su Xiaoxiao stood there, feeling a bit awkward.

At this moment, the woman with the high ponytail leading the group walked over.

"Xiaoxiao, is this the person who saved you?"

Su Xiaoxiao nodded. "Sister, that's him."

The woman was Deputy Leader Su Muqing of the Wildfire Mercenary Group. She sat down opposite Wang Lin.

Wang Lin looked up and glanced at her. "Something you need?"

"You saved my sister yesterday; I owe you a life."

"Is it too much to ask to treat you to a meal today?"

Wang Lin looked down at the three dishes and soup on his table, then looked at Deputy Leader Su Muqing.

"But I've already finished eating."

Deputy Leader Su Muqing was taken aback, then laughed out loud.

"Then I'll treat you to another meal." She waved at the owner. "Boss, add a few more dishes, put it on my tab."

Wang Lin looked at her, was silent for two seconds, and asked, "What is it?"

Deputy Leader Su Muqing put away her smile and looked at him seriously.

"My sister said that yesterday, over at the Spider Nest, you opened more than twenty cocoons."

Wang Lin didn't speak.

"Inside those cocoons, there were living people and dead people."

"You saved the living and took the credits from the dead."

Wang Lin still didn't speak.

"However, you've gotten yourself into trouble."

Wang Lin raised an eyebrow.

"The two people you looted yesterday, one named Zhou Lie and the other A-Qing, were members of the Wild Wolf Mercenary Group."

Wang Lin's movement of picking up food paused for a moment.

"The leader of the Wild Wolf Mercenary Group is called Commander Leí Héng, a [Blade God] of Sequence 067, with strength close to Level Four."

"He has already put out the word that he wants to investigate your background and take your life."

Wang Lin said calmly, "So?"

Deputy Leader Su Muqing was stunned by his reaction.

"So?"

"Commander Leí Héng wants to kill you, aren't you afraid?"

Wang Lin laughed.

"Yesterday, Zhou Lie also said he wanted to kill me, and then he died."

"Thanks for your good intentions. No need for the meal, I'm finished."

Having said that, he turned and walked out.

Su Xiaoxiao stood on the side, watching him walk over, and subconsciously made way.

As Wang Lin walked past her, his footsteps suddenly paused.

"Next time, don't get hung up in a tree again."

Su Xiaoxiao stood frozen in place, her face turning bright red.

Deputy Leader Su Muqing watched the direction Wang Lin disappeared in and suddenly laughed.

"Interesting. Really interesting..."

She stood up and said to the people behind her, "Keep a close eye on the Wild Wolf side. If there's any movement, tell me immediately."

...

Wang Lin walked out of the restaurant, thinking rapidly in his mind:

Wild Wolf Mercenary Group.

Commander Leí Héng.

[Blade God] of Sequence 067, close to Level Four.

He went over this information in his mind, his face expressionless.

Afraid?

A little.

But more than that, he was excited.

Yesterday he absorbed A-Qing's strengthening power and devoured Zhou Lie's Wind Element ability; he was now full of energy and was looking for someone to test his skills on.

Of course, not right now.

He was only Level One; confronting a [Blade God] who was close to Level Four head-on was suicide.

But this was Mist Camp, not an arena.

There were plenty of ways.

Wang Lin pulled back his thoughts and started walking forward.

Just a few steps later, a series of hurried footsteps came from behind him.

"Wait!"

Wang Lin turned around and saw Su Xiaoxiao jogging to catch up.

"I... I'm Su Xiaoxiao."

"You saved me, and I still don't know your name."

Wang Lin looked at her and replied, "Wang Lin."

"That... the people from Wild Wolf are not to be trifled with, and Commander Leí Héng is even harder to deal with."

"You... you need to be careful."

Wang Lin suddenly asked, "Does your Wildfire Mercenary Group have a grudge against Wild Wolf?"

Su Xiaoxiao was taken aback. "How did you know?"

"Guessed it. If there was no grudge, you wouldn't be so eager to warn me."
