40: Chapter 40 I Want to Eat People
Captain Han walked over with a smile and crouched down beside Wang Xiaoyue.
He kept his voice very low, like a harmless neighbor uncle:
"Little girl, can Uncle ask you something?"
Wang Xiaoyue looked up at him.
Those eyes were very clean and bright, like two black grapes.
"Uncle, is there something you need?"
Captain Han smiled even more kindly: "Uncle has a question for you. If you answer it correctly, Uncle will give you candy."
Wang Xiaoyue shook her head: "I don't like eating candy."
Captain Han was stunned for a moment: "Then what do you like to eat?"
Wang Xiaoyue looked at him and thought very seriously.
Then she said: "I want to eat humans."
Captain Han's smile froze.
Tieshan, who was behind him, was also stunned.
Humans? A little girl saying she wants to eat humans?
What kind of family is this?
Or is this some game the child is playing?
But what kind of game involves eating humans?
The muscles on Captain Han's face twitched, but he forcibly maintained his smile.
"Th-that's fine then."
He gave a dry cough and pointed to the four Dark Blade members behind him,
"If you answer correctly, you can choose any of those four people over there, okay?"
Wang Xiaoyue's gaze passed over him and landed on those four people.
She wrinkled her little nose and sniffed.
Then she shook her head: "Their scent is wrong, they don't taste good."
The faces of the four Dark Blade members darkened.
One of them couldn't help but speak up: "You little brat, what are you saying..."
Captain Han raised his hand to stop him.
He looked at Wang Xiaoyue, his eyes already changed.
"How is their scent wrong?"
Wang Xiaoyue said very seriously: "They aren't humans."
The faces of the four Dark Blade members darkened even more.
What do you mean they aren't humans?
Are you insulting us indirectly?
Tieshan stepped forward and stared at Wang Xiaoyue: "If they aren't humans, then what are they?"
Wang Xiaoyue glanced at him and said as a matter of course: "Calamities. Calamities don't taste good; humans are better."
Tieshan's smile froze.
Captain Han's back suddenly felt a bit cold.
A seven or eight-year-old girl, seeing at a glance that his subordinates were Calamities.
And she even said Calamities don't taste good and that she likes to eat humans.
What does this mean?
What am I doing? Why does it feel like I'm watching a horror movie?
But since he had already come, he couldn't be scared off by a little brat.
Captain Han took a deep breath and squeezed out that kind smile again.
"Little girl, how about this."
"You answer Uncle's question. If you answer correctly, Uncle will catch a few people for you, okay?"
Wang Xiaoyue's eyes brightened.
"Really?" She stood up, holding the rabbit, her little face full of anticipation,
"Okay, okay! Uncle, hurry and ask!"
Captain Han asked with a smile: "Then tell Uncle, is this Wang Lin's home? Are his parents here?"
Wang Xiaoyue blinked and answered straightforwardly:
"This is Wang Lin's home."
"My brother is Wang Lin. Do you have something to find him for?"
Captain Han's smile completely froze.
Tieshan was also stunned.
The four Dark Blade members behind them looked at each other.
This little girl...
Is Wang Lin's sister?
Captain Han stared at the innocent little face in front of him, suddenly feeling that something was wrong.
But he couldn't put his finger on it.
He gave a dry laugh: "Your brother... is he not home?"
Wang Xiaoyue shook her head: "My brother went out, he hasn't been back for several days."
"Then what about your parents?"
"Dad also went out, said he had to go to work."
"Mom is at home, cleaning upstairs."
Although Captain Han felt something was wrong, he had confirmed this was Wang Lin's home, so that made things easier.
The monk can run, but the temple can't.
He looked back at Tieshan and found Tieshan looking unhappy.
"What's wrong?"
Tieshan pursed his lips: "Wang Dashan isn't here."
"I originally wanted to personally twist off his head and let him know that not just anyone can use the character 'Mountain'."
Captain Han patted his shoulder: "Why the rush? People will always come back."
Tieshan felt a little better then.
At this moment, Wang Xiaoyue spoke again.
"Uncle, is there anything else you want to ask? If not, can you catch people for me to eat now?"
She hugged the bald rabbit, her face full of anticipation.
Captain Han looked down at her.
That little face was innocent, her smile as bright as a little angel's.
But what she said... why did it sound like a demon?
Captain Han suddenly smiled, but that smile was no longer the kind neighbor uncle from before,
Instead, he revealed his true colors—cold, sinister, and full of malice.
"Want to eat humans? Little girl, do you know what human meat tastes like?"
Wang Xiaoyue blinked and said very seriously: "I know. Dad often catches people for me to eat, it's so fragrant and delicious."
Captain Han's smile froze for a second.
The four Dark Blade members behind him looked at each other, all feeling a bit creeped out.
This little brat... is she telling the truth or not?
Captain Han withdrew that fake smile and straightened his body.
Since he had confirmed this was Wang Lin's home, it was simple.
Kill one, and that counts as one.
As for Wang Dashan not being home?
It doesn't matter, at worst they could just wait here a while longer.
He reached out and drew a dagger from his waist.
"Little girl, don't blame Uncle. If you want to blame someone, blame your good brother."
Wang Xiaoyue blinked, hugging the bald rabbit, not a trace of fear on her little face.
"My brother isn't even here, what does this have to do with my brother?"
Captain Han laughed, his smile sinister.
"Go ask the King of Hell underground."
As soon as he finished speaking, he gripped his dagger and fiercely stabbed towards Wang Xiaoyue.
The dagger pierced the air, aiming straight for Wang Xiaoyue's chest.
Just as the tip of the knife was less than half a meter away from her...
"Boom!"
A terrifying pressure suddenly descended.
Captain Han's body instantly froze.
The dagger hung in mid-air, motionless.
It wasn't that he didn't want to move.
It was that he couldn't move at all.
His legs felt like they were nailed to the ground, his arms felt like they were bound by invisible chains, and his breathing became difficult.
Pressure.
This is... pressure?!
Captain Han's pupils constricted violently.
He tried his best to move, but his body completely refused to obey.
That feeling was like having a huge mountain pressing down on him, pressing him so hard he couldn't breathe.
A few muffled thuds came from behind him.
Tieshan knelt on the ground.
The four Dark Blade members collapsed directly, their faces pressed against the ground, trembling all over.
Captain Han broke out in a cold sweat all over.
He struggled to turn his head and looked towards the stairs.
Standing there was a woman.
Around forty years old, wearing an apron, holding a rag in her hand.
She looked like an ordinary housewife.
But at this moment, she stood there, looking at them expressionlessly.
That terrifying pressure was radiating from her.
"Mom..." Wang Xiaoyue called out happily and skipped over to her,
"Are you done cleaning?"
Li Xiulan looked down at her daughter, a gentle smile appearing on her face.
"Yes, I'm done cleaning."
She patted Wang Xiaoyue's head, then looked up at Captain Han.
Those eyes were as calm as a stagnant pool.
When Captain Han met those eyes, his heart felt as if it were gripped by an invisible hand.
The next second, Li Xiulan's hair moved.
It was as if it had come alive; each strand of hair twisted, writhed, and began to split... and grow...
The black hair turned ash-white, and at the end of every single strand, a triangular snake head grew out.
