37: Chapter 37 I'll Kill Your Whole Family

Wang Lin turned around and walked in the direction of the Laifu Inn.

After a few steps, he suddenly stopped.

He looked back at the few flames.

No, he wasn't looking at the flames.

He was looking further into the distance.

Through the mist, he could see a figure crouching at the window of the abandoned building, peering in this direction.

This was his night vision ability.

Wang Lin withdrew his gaze, wearing the white cat mask, and continued walking forward.

The figure shrank back and didn't dare to show its face again.

The mist surged, swallowing his figure.

...

The next morning, Wang Lin sat in a corner on the first floor of the Laifu Inn, with a steaming bowl of wontons and two fried dough sticks laid out in front of him.

His injuries had completely healed, and the five Calamities he had devoured last night left him feeling energized, especially his eyes, which now saw everything with exceptional clarity, even the tiny crack on the opposite wall was perfectly visible.

Wang Lin picked up a fried dough stick, dipped it into the soup, and popped it into his mouth.

Just then, the sound of conversation from the table next to him drifted into his ears.

"Did you hear? The Wild Dog Squad ran into trouble."

"The Wild Dog Squad? The group that specializes in robbing newcomers on the outskirts of the black market?"

"Yeah, that's them. They all died last night."

"All dead? For real?"

"Real, I heard about it first thing this morning. The captain, Baldy Liu, and his four subordinates all died in that abandoned alley to the south."

"How did they die?"

"Don't know. The bodies were burned clean, leaving only a few piles of ash."

"The patrol went to check, but they didn't find anything."

"We only know that the points on their five wristbands were all wiped to zero."

"Tsk tsk... points wiped, people dead, they must have run into a tough opponent."

"Who's to say otherwise? Those losers usually only bully newcomers; this time they definitely kicked an iron plate."

"Serves them right. Someone should have taken care of them a long time ago."

Wang Lin lowered his head and continued eating his wontons, his face expressionless.

"By the way, wasn't Baldy Liu an LV2 Calamity? His hardened skin was pretty durable, how did he get wiped out?"

"Who knows? Maybe he provoked some big shot."

"I don't think it was any big shot."

"I heard that last night, someone saw a person wearing a cat mask walking out of that alley. Just one person."

"A cat mask? What the hell is that?"

"It's that kind of cute white cat mask, really eye-catching."

"Someone recognized that the kid spent twenty-five thousand in one go at the black market last night, buying a whole pile of crystal cores."

"Twenty-five thousand?! He's that rich?"

"You bet. Baldy Liu and his group must have targeted him, wanting to rob him, and then..."

The man made a throat-slitting gesture.

The group gasped.

"One person killed five Calamities?"

"Either way, Baldy Liu and his group are dead, and that kid walked out alive."

"Damn... what's that kid's background?"

"Don't know. But he's definitely not someone to mess with. From now on, if you see anyone wearing a cat mask, walk the other way."

The group nodded repeatedly and started talking about other things.

Wang Lin finished the last wonton, drank the soup in the bowl, and set down his chopsticks.

He stood up and walked to the counter.

"Boss, check."

Wang Lin paid his points and pushed the door open to leave the inn.

He casually fished a Level 2 crystal core out of his pocket and tossed it into his mouth like a candy bean.

Crunch... crunch...

The crystal core shattered between his teeth, and a stream of pure energy surged down his throat into his body.

He closed his eyes and felt it for a moment.

Not bad. Although it's not as direct as devouring Calamities, it has the advantage of being convenient.

He fished out another one and tossed it into his mouth.

Crunch.

He walked while eating.

The people around him saw his way of eating and their eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

"Damn, what is that kid eating?"

"Crystal cores, I think... looks like Level 2..."

"Level 2 crystal cores cost one thousand points each, and he's eating them like candy?!"

"What a spendthrift..."

"Those points are enough for me to live here for over ten days."

Wang Lin ignored those gazes.

He still had thirteen thousand five hundred points on his wristband, and he was carrying two Level 3 crystal cores and three Level 2 crystal cores in his pocket.

Enough to eat for a while.

The people from the Dark Blade were watching him like tigers, so leaving the camp now wasn't a wise choice.

It would be better to digest these crystal cores first; every level gained counts.

As he walked, he stopped.

In the mist ahead, a group of people was walking towards him.

There were seven or eight of them, led by a man in his early thirties with a long, thin scar at the corner of his left eye.

Behind him followed a bald, burly man and a woman around thirty years old.

Behind them were a few ordinary members, all with fierce looks in their eyes.

Wang Lin narrowed his eyes.

His night vision ability allowed him to see their faces before they could see his.

Captain Han.

Tie Shan.

Su Wan.

People from the Dark Blade.

He stopped walking and stood in place.

The group also stopped.

Captain Han stepped forward and stared at him.

"Are you Wang Lin?"

Wang Lin didn't speak.

He just looked at Captain Han, then glanced at Tie Shan and Su Wan behind him.

Three people, all LV5.

A quick look confirmed that these were people he couldn't beat.

However, Wang Lin wasn't panicked; you couldn't kill people openly in the camp.

Tie Shan grinned, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth.

"Is this him? This little runt could kill Commander Leí Héng?"

Su Wan didn't speak, just looked Wang Lin up and down.

Captain Han didn't speak either, just stared into Wang Lin's eyes.

Those eyes were very calm, without a trace of panic.

Captain Han had seen many people's eyes—fearful, angry, desperate, crazy.

But eyes like these, he rarely saw.

This kid, one look and you knew he wasn't simple.

Wang Lin looked at him and asked, "Are you looking for me?"

Captain Han said, "Commander Leí Héng was my man."

Wang Lin nodded, "I know."

"He is dead."

"Yes, I killed him."

Captain Han's eyes narrowed.

Tie Shan stepped forward, "Kid, don't you f*cking play dumb with us."

"Commander Leí Héng was a member of the Dark Blade; you killed him, so you have to pay with your life."

Wang Lin glanced at him, withdrew his gaze, and continued looking at Captain Han.

"So what? Are you going to do it here?"

Captain Han stared at him for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed.

"No rush, I'll let you live a few more days."

He pulled a colder smile onto his lips.

"I heard your parents are ordinary people?"

"Perfect, we're going out on a mission today, so we'll drop by your place while we're at it."

"That's right... I'm going to kill your whole family... Hahaha..."

After saying that, he laughed loudly.

Tie Shan laughed along, laughing recklessly.

Su Wan didn't laugh, just watched Wang Lin.

Wang Lin was stunned for a moment.

Not because he was scared.

He was genuinely stunned.

His parents are ordinary people?

This group investigated for so long, and that's all they found?

Wang Lin laughed too.

Is this the strength of the Dark Blade?

This investigative ability is on par with GG Bond.

His mind raced.

They want to go kill his parents?

Although he had long known that his whole family were Calamities, he just didn't know how strong they actually were.

Letting these people from the Dark Blade go and test the waters first wasn't a bad idea.
